A local Columbus, GA charity group offered "Free Gas" over the weekend.. it paid for gas for 200 cars. Well, it dispensed 573 gallons to 200 cars...that's less than 3 gallons per car.. Normally I'd just applaud their effort, but the "event" had ulterior motives to raise money and ATTENTION to sell tickets to a politicized event in September.. One note: If my info about gallons "given away" is wrong, it's the number WRBL-TV3 posted.

Vacations, especially family ones at the beach are fun. Meals are particularly fun.. Sitting down with my bride, 3 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, and my 5 grandchildren is joy... But I hate it when the restaurant owners manipulate with the bill to milk more more profit for themselves. This past week, I got a bill with a "non-adjustable fee" of $7.98 added to my $225.00 bill (plus automatic $45.00 "tip", and $15.00 tax). I asked, and was told it was the credit card processing fee. (This is close to 3.5%, while most high volume restaurants only pay between 1% and 1.5% for charges or a nominal "swipe" fee for a debit card). I told them I'm using a debit card so adjust the fee accordingly.. They said it applied to all cards.. then I said, I'll pay cash..bring me another bill with the corrected bill, and was told that the "computer" would just make an adjustment when it was rung up. I just quickly deducted $7.98 from the bill and paid the exact amount, and walked out. We won't go back to Bayou Bill's on the Gulf.

Did you hear that the Democrats are giving themselves $10,000.00 plus $150.00 a month for security systems for their homes. Wait a minute! Do any of them NOT HAVE a home security system or live in a gated community right now? At a minimum, all Congresspersons need to sign a sworn affidavit that they do not have security of some sort at their homes. Also, all Congresspersons need to "feds up" whether they have investments in home security companies.

A couple of weeks ago, my bride and I started watching the series "The Firm" which was "based" on a Grisham novel, but now it's 10 years later after being in Witness Protection. Season 1 was 22 episodes, but it was canceled before Season 2 was shot.. Do not waste your time... due to the way it was canceled, Season 1 has no conclusion, and the final episode leaves you feeling "DOH".

FIVE... police cars were dispatched...the initial story said that " there was an erratic person in the area who has since been taken into custody" and "Stay with WRBL on-air and online as we continue to monitor this incident." -- Hmmmmm... we're back in town now, and there's no follow-up we can find....

I also need to correct something I wrote yesterday.. something concerning the announcement of the "Dragonfly Trail" extension... First, neither route I suggested is/was right, but based on the WTVM story, either one could have been right.. but there was a 3rd route I had not considered. The other route decided on for a walking/bicycling pathway takes a route from 10th Street and takes users across Veterans, under the ":underpass, up Wynnton Rd to "Bradley Dive, across 13th St, onto Warren Williams Rd, through Dinglewood Park grounds to 18th Avenue and then to 13th St.. I, for one, though will not travel that section at dusk or later.. I've also been told no "City Money" is being used, but that is not true...some money does come from "Dragonfly, Inc", but also from T-SPLOST, grants, Housing Authority, Columbus Museum, MCSD, and some other private sources.. City officials tend to "forget" that government grants, the Housing Authority, the Museum/MCSD, and TSPLOST are all funded by tax dollars.. and that means it's straight out of our pockets...

The $700,000 T-SPLOST money will actually cost Columbus taxpayers $805,000 as we will only get back 85% of the TSPLOST tax we pay.. the other $740,000 just comes out of our pockets direct, so we're actually getting stuck for $1,545,000  for an unnecessary bicycle path. While the story doesn't say it, I'm assuming that the 10th Ave to 18th Ave route will be down 13th Street. As I recall, there is literally no way to expand 13th Street without tearing down at least parts of building to do so, and there are already "bicycle lanes" which have already taken away parking spaces and car driving lanes that entire route. Looks like another expensive "feel good idea" that will cause more congestion problems.

According to the Federal Election Commission, campaign money can only be used on “litigation expenses where the candidate/officeholder was the defendant and the litigation arose directly from campaign activity or the candidate’s status as a candidate. When Warnock’s legal team attempted to get the lawsuit dismissed last year, it pointed out that Robertson’s claims “relate to actions purportedly taken in 2005 and 2008, when he [Warnock] was not a federal employee.”I found it online, but have yet to see any local news coverage...
