After the story about the high school coach who got suspended for a game for beating his opponent by too many points, there were a number of reactions on the sport shows. I liked Lou Holtz's story when he got beaten badly by a Bobby Bowden team.. at midfield after the game, Holtz asked Bowden why he ran up the score..Bowden..' isn't it the object to score as many points as you can...so either recruit better players or become a better coach". It was a pivoting point in Holtz's career.

And, 2 weeks ago, his "stellar" appointee was found at 12:30 AM passed out asleep (after a couple of drinks" in his car)... but was not only not given a sobriety test, but was allowed to drive himself home..

Went to Macon Saturday for a wedding Saturday afternoon.. Pulled up to the downtown 1st Presbyterian Church and was amazed top see hundreds of empty parking spaces right in front ans on both sides of the street as far as you could see. We pulled into one and when I got out.. I saw them.. 100s of one-eyed monsters standing every 2 spaces ready to gobble up your credit cards for $1.25 per hour. They were WiFi connected so I'm sure that the Parking Authority would be alerted to parking there and either not paying or your car still be there when the meter time expired so a Parking Ticket could be issued.
Looked up the history of them and found an earlier Macon Telegraph story on how "Alex Morrison, executive director of the Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority, said the meters were never meant to “make a ton of money,” and that they are accomplishing what they were intended to do and then some." -- hmmm... yeah.. it's accomplished keeping consumers from USING the parking spaces. Even sadder was learning that the meters were "armed" from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Saturday so the merchants are the ones not making "a ton of money".

Oh, and learned a few more things in Macon... 1.. I bought Shell Gas for $2.129 per gallon for Regular after I punched in my .05 discount with the Fuel Reward program.. how come Macon's gas is cheaper than Columbus'?

 

Learned another thing in Macon, too. This was the first time I'd driven on the Eisenhower Parkway into the downtown Macon area in probably 25 years. The drive was so much nicer than driving into downtown Columbus via Veterans Parkway, Victory Drive, 13th Street or 2nd Second Ave. Retail looked ALIVE.. streets were in much better condition, and the grass on the rights-of-way were mowed. I thought about how Macon won the Amazon Fulfillment site a couple of years ago.. and how our Chamber Executives ho-hummed not getting it as "a learning experience". Hmmm.. obviously OUR Chamber hasn't learned much from that "experience".

 

One more thing I noticed in Macon... it looks like the GA Power office may have been open for business.. it was a Saturday afternoon so I possibly could be wrong, but it sure appeared like it was an ongoing business concern.

 

You know, our newspaper is controlled from Macon.. and Macon is our postal processor.. I got 2 ideas for Columbus' next "Slogan"! Columbus.. just 90 miles west of Macon" or.. a shorter .. more economically viable one, "West Macon, GA"

The NCAA will probably lose TV money now that they have decided to let athletes negotiate for their own benefit.. a "star" athlete on a top 5 team playing a big rival also in the top 5 can easily see the game will have huge ratings, so what's to stop one from telling his coach and the TV network that he's not going to play unless he gets an extra $1-Million-dollar (or more) bonus.... or an good lineman saying he's not going to "play as well" unless he gets a big bonus as well?

Combined with 63,000 other NYers who have left NY to lower tax states, de Bl@sio is achieving the goal of all people making the same salaries....though now it's much lower as the 63,000 who left took their much higher salaries with them. Now, those left will have to pay more taxes to give de Bl@sio his money.
