From the "talk about a fraud disaster" department - Online headline/story: " Bill would create permanent absentee voter list in Georgia * The measure would give Georgians an easier option to vote by mail. * To vote absentee, a voter has to apply for an absentee ballot for each election. That means the voter has to:

 

Fill out the application;
Mail, fax, or email it to the county election office;
The absentee ballot is mailed back to the voter;
Then the voter mails in the completed ballot.

 

State Senator Elena Parent (D-Atlanta) thinks it should be easier. * Her bill "makes it easier for people who prefer to vote by absentee ballot," she said. "They have to continually request the ballots now. This would allow them to sign up once and get on the list." -- Good grief.. how do these people... Democrats... get elected! Can you not visualize every nursing home and cemetery having to hire a full time "mail returner".... actually.. me neither, but I can see Democrats setting up permanent voter assistance/advisory stations at both kind of facilities. Hmm.. wait a minute.. why not just appoint Stacey Abrams as official absentee ballot deliverer!

You know.. since the Columbus (GA) Council has not spent all the Public Safety LOST revenues each year for the past 10 years, until Council fulfills it's promise, maybe the fair thing would be to return the accumulated amounts set aside for hiring the "100 more police officers" to the taxpayers via Property Tax reductions until the promise is kept.

The Columbus L-E had a good story on student recipients of 4 year scholarships to Alabama State University.. Some were "full".. and covered tuition, textbooks, and fees, or general... which covered tuition plus a $500.00 textbook allowance (not sure if total, or per annum). It exposes a couple of stumbling blocks students.. (and especially parents of students) are faced with... excessive costs of "fees" and textbooks. just comparing the two scholarship y=types give , we find that there is a $13,000.00 "difference" over 4 years... that's over $3,000,00 a year for often unneeded service fees and overvalued .. and often politically biased...textbooks. Oh! I didn't see where either of these levels of scholarship include rooms and/or meals.....

Went to pick up a meal for my mom-in-law at Cracker Barrel last evening, and "noticed" ( like a sore thumb) a Russell County Sheriff's Department vehicle parked there.. I know law enforcement has the right.. even duty.. to cross a state line in pursuit of felons, but I didn't know they could cross the state lines in official vehicles in pursuit of food.

It said: “There can be no quarrel with the truism that because public employees unions attempt to influence governmental policymaking, their activities ... may be properly termed political.” Justice Lewis Powell, concurring, said, “the ultimate objective of a union in the public sector, like that of a political party, is to influence public decision-making.” -- Hmmm... like I've contended for decades, government employees should not be allowed to vote for, or contribute to, elected officials who have any power over their salaries or job security, and carrying it a step further, government employees should not be able to vote on tax assessment issues for the same reasons. I fact, it should should also apply to the spouses and immediate family members of such employees as well. This is another issue our legislators need to address before we have anymore SPLOST referendum votes!
