Something strange is going on concerning the 340 unit apartment project on River Road here in Columbus, GA.. There has been little.. if any.. CELEBRATION of a high impact development of Atlanta based Alliance Realty Partners.. there's still no recorded sale registered with the City's tax office database, and the department has not responded to my inquiry about it... The church tax exempt property was given a "RO" zoning which is... was.... very strange for tax exempt church properties... Something has gone on that no Councilor or beneficiary ... nor the local media for that matter...wants to discuss publicly... Yes Columbus... something wrongfully strange is going on...

Sure.. it was a political appearance.. but our elected officials are "non-partisan", and should take advantage of every opportunity to establish a better working relationship with GA statewide officials...

Our Muscogee County School District had one school that scored in the Top 10 statewide in GA for average scores of students taking the 2022 SAT's... Having one of the Top 10 schools is good, but looking at the other aspects ... not so good.. MCSD brags about it's "graduation record", but when only 2 of it's high schools have more that 100 students take the SAT's is pathetic.. our high schools even have SAT "prep classes", which .. obviously.. take up time that could be used to teach more important aspects (such as READING and MATH PROFICIENCY). The numbers out from the District and individual schools reflect the number of students who took the SAT's and the average of their Math and English Arts portions...

I am writing off Fresh Market here in Columbus, GA! Yesterday, I went there to pick up a "rotisserie chicken" for my bride to use in our meal last night. I got there, and the chickens were 30 minutes away from being cooked. Not finding a couple of others things she needed, I left and went to Publix and got them, then went back to Fresh Market. I picked up the $8.99 "chicken" and proceeded to check out.. With tax, the total came to $9.80. I handed the woman a $10.00 bill, but instead of getting 20-cents back, she asked if I had 80-cents because she didn't have any change. I said, "No", then she asked if I wanted to "round up" my purchase to $10.00 in lieu of getting my change back.. I said "No" again. She then said she couldn't... wouldn't.. complete the sale. I normally would have just walked away and leave her holding my "BIRD" in her face, but it was for my bride, so I got out my debit card and paid for it. My God, I thought.. I was a 4th generational merchant, and never in my experience would anyone working for our store have told a customer he/she wouldn't make a sale because of not having the correct change.. For that matter, if I had heard an employee say that to a customer, that employee would have been fired on the spot!

She got up, tried to start her car.. and ... nothing... no strain, no nothing ... her battery just "quit" on her car... It was still under warranty... so we did get a better price on replacement.. but.. that still didn't relieve knowing this could happen at anytime with these "high-fangled new tech batteries.. Oh.. and hers had a new-fangled electronic transmission shifter.. the latest in high tech.. well, guess what...being electronic with a dead battery meant the car couldn't be shifted into neutral and pushed or pulled to a spot a tow truck could "tow" it...sometimes.. change is not always good...

A WRBL-TV3 story told us an "undercover" MC Sheriff's vehicle was fired upon and hit 4 times a couple of days ago...the story also said 4 people have been arrested who were involved.. there was a list of charges about illegal guns and drugs in their possession, but no mention of any charges for illegally discharging a gun within our City limits... Thankfully, no law enforcement officer was struck by the bullets fired at the vehicle.

RE: That 340 unit apartment complex that may get off the ground on River Road here in Columbus, GA .Council needs to look into the past 37 years of that 25 acres being "tax exempt".. I know it was bought by a "church", but never used for any church development. We have another type of property tax exemption/discount" for property put into "conservancy" but if that's ever used in a residential/commercial development during the 10 year status, back property taxes are due. Council needs to look at any other religious tax exempted properties and rezone them to prohibit changes from the original stated status without being responsible for back taxes... Now.. it might be that Wynnton Baptist/Wynnbrook Church/School could be approached as a good neighbor, and maybe they will voluntarily reimburse the City on the taxes it didn't pay on that 25 acres from what should have brought a handsome figure.

The only effective way to "integrate" schools is to have a well integrated staff so all neighborhood kids will be exposed to all ethnicities working together towards a successful goal. Balancing students by race by busing them to non-neighborhood schools disconnects the parents from from their children's education. The most revealing "figure" is the 22% White number. Our census demographics show Columbus's population to be pretty much a 45/45 Black/White mix, yet our public school population does not come close to matching this. So, reflecting our community in staffing is obviously the only true way to expose students to integration.
