The focus should be "readin', ritin', and rithmetic"...THE 3 Rs...through Middle School... then add history, geography, and life advancing writing and mathematical skills.  With mastery of those "3Rs" followed by skill enhancing high school courses,  students can journey in any direction that interests them!
