There’s a “call out” for volunteers to fill various “board/authority seats” in Columbus, GA… Why does Council & Mayor do things this way? At best, you get the people who are looking for attention, favors, or personal benefits of serving on such… Why don’t the Councilors set aside a meeting time.. even a phone-bank session… to contact local .. and proven… business executives from fields that have given them experience in the areas needing “Board & Authority” attention.. It use o be that way … I’ve served on one such board in he past at the invitation of a Mayor’s request.. You know, our School Board use to be chosen via Grand Jury approval… until the DemoKrats in Atlanta in the early 1990s decided people should be elected by districts.. and what did we got was a Board of 9 people serving 8 districts and 1 at-large one. What we lost was a School Board interested in Muscogee County as a whole…Heck one district even elected an active teacher who taught in another school district in another county... (pssst.. she’s no longer working in that county but she’s still on our School board).
