what the totals are here for MCSD employees at the moment, but in 1990, we had
32,000 students and 5,000 (2,000 teachers/3,000 other employees), and in 2011 we

From my soapbox: Looking back...Times were simpler then. We opened doors
and stood up when the women in our lives came into the room. We said YesSir
& NoMa'am, we feared school calling home to report our behavior. We left the
key in the car, and who locked the front door until everyone was in for the
night, but we were better prepared for reality than today's youth. Today's youth
believe addicted and pregnant idols are their role models. All the major women
singers run around town and stage in underwear or less. Disney idols post their
nakedness in sexting messages, teens post their sex videos on their FaceBook
pages. The times, they are achangin' but are they better. I don't think
so....

options. * The company, Knicon Inc., used a colorful PowerPoint
presentation in two separate meetings to propose a highly sophisticated concept
for the intersection of Victory Drive and Veterans Parkway. Still in a
conceptual stage, the proposal was called Commons II +
Heritage Plaza because of its proximity to South Commons. It included plans for
a hotel at the intersection — across from the Columbus Civic Center — along with
other retail development similar to CityPlace in West Palm Beach, Fla.
One of
the presenters was Joe Lunsford whose wife, Cecilia, is listed as president of
Knicon. Lunsford is also the brother of Muscogee County Tax Commissioner Lula
Lunsford Huff, who led recent opposition against the housing authority’s now
defunct plans * The mayor’s husband, Trip, is vice chairman of the
Housing Authority board of directors. Tomlinson said her husband’s position had
nothing to do with her support of the project. She said she ran for office on a
platform of revitalizing blighted areas and was just trying to do what was best
for the community." -- Hmmm, just proves that with reporters, even blind ones
stumble across the truth on occasion..Nah, Lunsford's plea for not building the
BTW project there, and Mayor Obamalinson's support of thr Housing Authority plan
wasn't influenced by her husband's role. Believe that? I got some prime building
lots in the Okefenokee area. Whatever happens there, let it be done with private
money... not taxpayer funded grants or tax breaks!

We went to
see "42" with my bride and our 16 year old... Really enjoyed the experiences...
even the racial ones, as it brought forward to today, that even the most
hardened racists of today, black or white, yellow or brown, have to admit that

Authorization is requested for the appointment of Reather Hollowell as director
of the Human Resources Department. She will fill the position left vacant by the
retirement of longtime director Tom Barron in March. Hollowell has been the assistant human resources
director for the Columbus Consolidated Government for the last 10 years. She
began her career with the Columbus Consolidated in June 1986 and has served as
the city’s affirmative action administrator/EEO compliance officer since 1996.
-- We applaud in-house
promotions, and this one serves another purpose as well. I find it anachronistic
that we still had an "affirmative action administrator" on the payroll, but this
solution offers a chance for Council to correct an unnecessary need. Ms
Hollowell's promotion from her old position demonstrates that her old position
is no longer necessary, and it should be dropped from job openings in the City
employment tree.

Russell County's Hunter Webb hit two grand slam home runs, that's 8 RBIs, in one
