Obviously, throwing more money at education has not improved it. Not sure what the totals are here for MCSD employees at the moment, but in 1990, we had 32,000 students and 5,000 (2,000 teachers/3,000 other employees), and in 2011 we had 32,000 students and 6,200 (breakdown not provided) employees.

From my soapbox: Looking back...Times were simpler then. We opened doors and stood up when the women in our lives came into the room. We said YesSir & NoMa'am, we feared school calling home to report our behavior. We left the key in the car, and who locked the front door until everyone was in for the night, but we were better prepared for reality than today's youth. Today's youth believe addicted and pregnant idols are their role models. All the major women singers run around town and stage in underwear or less. Disney idols post their nakedness in sexting messages, teens post their sex videos on their FaceBook pages. The times, they are achangin' but are they better. I don't think so....

The more I hear about how "normal" the Bomber Brothers were, the sicker the other "normal" people of Massachusetts are making me. Bomber Brother #2 killed an 8 year old boy, and blew the leg off the boy's 6 year old sister on Monday, then casually worked out for his soccer coach on Tuesday.

It really bothers me that Boston people had such glowing images of the Bomber Brothers, especially the younger brother, being "nice" and "normal", but then again, those same Boston people have elected and reelected Barney Frank, Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and now Pocohontas Warren.

It also bothers me that Bomber Brother #1 was on the FBI "radar" for two years, yet was allowed to travel out of the country and return without anyone raiding an eyebrow.

She said she ran for office on a platform of revitalizing blighted areas and was just trying to do what was best for the community." -- Hmmm, just proves that with reporters, even blind ones stumble across the truth on occasion..Nah, Lunsford's plea for not building the BTW project there, and Mayor Obamalinson's support of thr Housing Authority plan wasn't influenced by her husband's role. Believe that? I got some prime building lots in the Okefenokee area. Whatever happens there, let it be done with private money... not taxpayer funded grants or tax breaks!

Very few of those who pass the GED test pursue higher education, and most struggle to earn a living wage." -- You know, GED is an acronym for "General Education Development", not "General Education Degree" or "Graduate Equivalent Degree", but the reality is that is have denigrated into "Government Education Disaster".

We went to see "42" with my bride and our 16 year old... Really enjoyed the experiences... even the racial ones, as it brought forward to today, that even the most hardened racists of today, black or white, yellow or brown, have to admit that blatant racism that occurred then would not be tolerated at all today. There's still a ways to go, but we have certainly come a long way. It's time for every one to wear number "42" everyday.

DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT: Authorization is requested for the appointment of Reather Hollowell as director of the Human Resources Department. She will fill the position left vacant by the retirement of longtime director Tom Barron in March. Hollowell has been the assistant human resources director for the Columbus Consolidated Government for the last 10 years. She began her career with the Columbus Consolidated in June 1986 and has served as the city’s affirmative action administrator/EEO compliance officer since 1996. -- We applaud in-house promotions, and this one serves another purpose as well. I find it anachronistic that we still had an "affirmative action administrator" on the payroll, but this solution offers a chance for Council to correct an unnecessary need. Ms Hollowell's promotion from her old position demonstrates that her old position is no longer necessary, and it should be dropped from job openings in the City employment tree.
