For the most part, my bride has enjoyed her 2016 Acura MDX, but this week something happened that scares me from buying her a new one.. her car's battery just died with no warning... and that was not the only issue that evolved from the situation. We called a tow service, and they sent a traditional front-end lift truck.. Unfortunately, her car was parked at the end of our driveway, and the tow truck could not get access to the front of the car. Then we learned that because the transmission is electronically shifted, he couldn't put the car in neutral and maneuver it around so he could get his device hooked up on the front wheels. We did get it "jumped off" after a frantic time, so I could back her car out to the street and pull up behind his truck and he could get a grip on it.. Now I'm going to make sure we don't buy a new car in the future that has such an electronic transmission.. well unless a proper solution is developed.. Now, it still scares me... a lot... that her battery died with 'zero" warning that it may be weakening.

North Columbus, GA...Let's talk some more about that proposed 340 unit apartment complex on 25 acres that Wynnbrook Baptist Church/School sold that the developers are now trying to get the GA DOT to rescind it's previous decision NOT TO widen River Road/GA 219 in that area. Face it... there are only two possible exits/entrances .. River Road which the GA DOT is examining (though it stated during the Round-About saga that widening that stretch was not an option), and if that's not approved, then traffic would have to be on River Knoll Way.. and that would be a disaster for Brookstone subdivision.. Wynnbrook would probably close the gate forcing all apartment traffic to River Road but Wynnbrook School traffic would all be using Brookstone Blvd and can you imagine the traffic jams as all their school traffic uses the Brookstone Blvd entrance as ingress and egress, and then most would leave the subdivision at a Bradley Park while Brookstone School is opening/closing for the day... It's time that Columbus Council discuss this in public!

The student loan fiasco has one good aspect... It's bringing forward the subject of federal backed loans being used to buy votes.. and it's showing this program needs to be scrapped altogether! Loans should be handled by businesses focused on helping people handle loans in a personally beneficial manner. I also suggest that the bulk of education loans be administered by colleges and universities themselves... they need to have a stake in what they are "selling" so they stay invested

You know, the "new" RANKED CHOICE VOTING method used in Alaska just shows how easy it is to manipulate an election.. Since voters are "allowed" to vote for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Choice on their ballots, a Major Party's voters can leave the other Major Party candidate completely off their ballots, and if no one gets a majority of 1st Choice votes, on the recounts, 4th and 3rd Choices get eliminated and reassigned to the remaining candidates "equally" so a candidate with only a "plurality" gets bumped up to a "majority" and a 1st & 2nd Choice RUNOFF is eliminated.. In effect, if you don't vote for a 1st or 2nd CHOICE candidate, your vote is taken away from you.. RANKED CHOICE VOTING should be Constitutionally challenged!

Of note... States that have gone to full state or local "Ranked Choice Voting" are california, Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, Minnesota, Michigan, New York, Vermont, and Maryland, and Maine and Alaska are doing it this year.. If you follow election results, you will notice that 10 of the 11 states that allow this are "BLUE" and this method pretty much assures those states will remain BLUE.... and if you are a Libertarian or Independent Conservative voter in all 11 of those states, your vote has been taken away from you and given to candidate you like the least...

Wow! Wynnbrook Baptist has sold 25 acres of it's property to a developer who wants to build 340 Apartments off River Road. That means 340 to 680 more cars will be ingressing/egressing at one on the busiest sections of two lane highway in Columbus.. There are four other Apartment/business/condo complexes within a quarter mile and right in the middle of school bus pick-ups/drop-offs and parents trying to deliver their children to Wynnbrook School.. additional. just North of the site is another new Senior Housing development being built, plus the recently opened VA Clinic.... and Council or the Planning Commission has not even looked into y=the impact because (they say) "the existing zoning allows for it" and they don't think the additional traffic will impact traffic.. Well. I looked at the City property database, and there is no 6700 River Road address for any property in it.. I take this to mean that no "driveway cuts" were existing when the "parcel" was sold, so I think there should be another Council/Planning Commission "look" into the matter..Don't forget that the GA DOT has previously stated it will not widen GA 219 (our River Road) at that stretch... Oh.. and if an alternate driveway is cut into the Wynnbrook driveway, traffic will also impact the voting voting precinct and Brookstone subdivision...
