There were laws and Executive Orders that prohibited retailers from raising prices on existing inventory to reflect increased replacement costs on new inventory... Ford initiated "Whip-Inflation-Now" , and while it wasn't "easy" on retailers or customers but retailers and customers alike worked together and things worked until the Democrat Congress got Cuzzin Jimmy Carter in as President, and boy did the economy tank... Democrat control of all 3 law enacting government bodies creates a nightmare such as we are seeing again now.
