Wanna see Columbus GA in 20 years? Yesterday, I published an article about how Diamond Baseball Holdings ("DBH") treated its "landlord" ...
"Because of the lackluster attendance, and because economic development studies often exaggerate economic impact, Trustmark Park and the Mississippi Braves were never the moneymaker for Pearl that taxpayers had been promised. * Pearl regularly dipped into their general fund to cover the debt owed on the ballpark and neighboring shopping center. The City is also still making annual payments through this year to site developers. * In 2015, Moody’s issued a quadruple downgrade of Pearl’s credit rating to “junk bond” status. The City has worked hard to reverse course on the debt. In October of 2023, Pearl finally achieved a positive credit rating for the first time in eight years – sadly, right as the team that precipitated the initial credit plummet is leaving.* Current Mayor Jake Windham expressed disappointment in the Braves’ decision. Windham said the City “worked diligently with Spectrum Capital, state and county leaders, as well as Diamond Baseball Holdings, to come to an agreement. It is truly unfortunate that despite our best efforts, the Braves have chosen to take this route.” -- Twenty years ago, Pearl Mayor Foster was presented the same sales pitch as Columbus GA's Mayor Skip was this past year... both bought it hook, line, and sinker... Ironically, Foster left Pearl's current Mayor holding an empty "catch" bag, and Columbus's Mayor 20 years from now will be holding that same empty bag. Of course, it may happen sooner it Mayor Skip gave "DBH" an early out if attendance numbers disappoint.. We'll have to look REAL CLOSE to the lease's "fine print" as soon as it's available to the public.

Ooops! The December inflation rate came in HIGHER than "expected". Since Resident Biden became the White House Resident, inflation is overall up over 17%. .. food is up over 33% and energy over 32%, and there doesn't look like any relief is coming anytime soon.

Hey.. Columbus, GA School Board and System.. the current E-SPLOST tax revenue will exceed your previous list a year early… but not because of raging Bidenomics.. No.. E-SPLOST revenues are higher because we’re paying a lot more sales taxes on what it cost 3 years ago.. Look.. You laid out a 5 year shopping/spending plan, and just because it’s going to get paid off quicker, it doesn’t mean we want to spend more a year before you normally come back.. Give the taxpayers a break… let the E-SPLOST sales tax end for a year.. a 20% local sales tax cut will help our community more than your being “greedy”.
