L-E story: "The 2011 budget was expected to dip into the reserves for about 14 days worth, or about $5.9 million -- each day being worth about $420,000. But the city only had to take about 8.5 days worth, leaving it with 81.5 days. Tomlinson’s budget would dip into the reserves for about 11.5 days worth -- about $4.8 million -- leaving the city at 70 days, still well above the recommended minimum, the mayor said." -- Oh, it's only 11.5 days....hmmmmm, but when you add that Mayor Obamalinson has 3 more budgets to propose, that could mean another (3 x 11.5) 34.5 days cut from the reserve account, and we could be down to only 35.5 days in reserve, and that, my friends, would be catastrophic in terms of credit ratings.

One thing both voters and Council need to understand is that whenever projects are completed with restricted SPLOST funding, the funding cannot provide ongoing maintenance and day-to-day costs of running those projects, so budgets get highly affected by adding those projects to the ongoing budget needs. A current example is the planned natatorium. Anyone with a pool can attest that expenses associated with it grow exponentially with time. To be of value, the SPLOST projects need to be "revenue positive" from those who actually use the facilities (new ice rink also comes quickly to mind) in order to maintain it for the future.

Yesterday, I got another of those WIC program calls from Brenda, the director. She apologized if 'you' are not on the program but desperately wanted us to come 'today' with the promise of only a 10-15 minute wait, and 'we' could pick up 3 months of WIC stuff. She pleaded that if 'you' didn't, WIC could possibly be withdrawn in the area because of lack of participation. Isn't that what we want? Don't we want people to work/wean themselves off public aid?. Well, "we" do, but not Director Brenda. Why....because if enough people don't need WIC support anymore, Brenda would lose her job. I think Brenda is actually more concerned about her job than anything else. Closing a public welfare/aid office should be a good sign ..sorta like a 'mortgage burning' celebration. Keeping it open benefits Brenda more than anyone.

Why is it that we don't see the MCSD coming forward now with plans to eliminate many of the projects on its last SPLOST 'want list" when it's so evident that the total collections the MCSD projected will come in well short of the $225,000,000.00 it calculated it could receive during the closed-end 5 year time frame?

Upon viewing the White House released version of Emperor Scarlet Obama's birth certificate: Hmmm.. let's look at this in a historical manner. The year is 1961, when blacks were racially referenced as "Negro" and whites were racially referenced as "Caucasian". I'm trying to think when would the medical field arbitrarily have changed Negro to African. Of course, it has been 50 years and with today's technology and 2 years to develop it, who can verify this document wasn't produced last week? While I'm not "a birther", I would like to see at least a couple of dozen other 1960's Hawaiian birth certificates listing :African" as a person's race, and whether whites from Africa were listed as "African" or "Caucasion".
---
Emperor Scarlet Obama finally releasing his birth certificate now really does no more than call attention to the fact he's always lied about his desire to be the most transparent president ever. He's about as transparent as duct tape, though it's very transparent he has no real interest in being transparent on any other aspect.

So, in fact, the City did pay out less by settling for $155K to the "victim".

If Fred Sanford had been in the courtyard when Curry's verdict was announced, he really would have had "the big one" and joined his Elizabeth in heaven. Not because Curry wasn't guilty, but that a jury could agree on such.

We need to work hard at getting super-majorities of conservatives in both Houses of Congress, and then make sure we make sure Emperor Scarlet Obama gets reelected. Huh, you think? The International Monetary Fund has declared that the Chinese will overtake the American economy in 2016, and we need to make sure Emperor Obama gets full credit for the damage he's done, so no historian can ever rewrite history saying we took him out of office before his first term program disasters could become effective.

Even in the mid-80's (other than if you were making a purchase for the Consolidated Government of Columbus), a less than $10.00 fan purchase (and for a 6" oscillating one at that) didn't demand comparative shopping trips to multiple outlets. If the sign out board at the Bradley Center indicated Curry's main destination was to K-mart, why did he go to Sears on Macon Road a few blocks away from K-marts, but then drive by K-marts and go to Montgomery-Ward's in Peachtree Mall before doubling back later to hurriedly by a fan at K-marts?

If the anti-gun segment wants to make illegal use of guns an issue to correct such use, then that segment needs to get off its anti-death sentence position when sitting on juries evaluating the sentences of people who kill using legally or illegally obtained guns. A prompt and certain sentence is still the best incentive for one person not to kill another person.

He is risen!
Online story: "On Saturday, Obama insisted in his radio and Internet address that the best answer is a long-term drive to develop alternatives to fossil fuel. He also renewed calls to end $4 billion in subsidies for oil and gas companies. "Instead of subsidizing yesterday's energy sources," he said, "we need to invest in tomorrow's. * Republicans contend that high gas prices are the inevitable result of an administration they accuse of stifling domestic drilling, and which placed new curbs on offshore exploration after last spring's disastrous BP oil spill. *"The administration has declared what can only be described as a war on American energy," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. * For some, (Emperor Scarlet Obama) said, the cost of a fill-up has all but erased the benefit of the payroll tax holiday that he and congressional Republicans agreed on last December. -- In other words, if he'd been successful in raising the taxes back to the Clinton era, we'd already reached his oft described desired goal of $5.00 a gallon.

Item listed in the City Manager;s Agenda: "
STORING, TRANSPORTING & RECYCLING WASTE TIRES (ANNUAL CONTRACT): It is requested that council approve the annual service contract for storing, transporting & recycling waste tires from Containers by Reaves (Phenix City) on an “as needed basis,” for the estimated annual contract value of $21,000, or $1,050 per load. The city generates approximately 20,000 waste tires (20 loads) annually. The contractor will remove and properly recycle waste tires generated at the city’s landfill. A cost for oversized tires is included in the bid; however, the city rarely has oversized tires in the landfill." -- Why are these tires ending up at the landfill? We are already charged a $1.00 per tire for such disposal when we purchase new tires.
---
Ditto: "FIRE APPARATUS AND EQUIPMENT: It is requested that Council approve the purchase of one E-One 75-foot Aerial Mounted Custom Typhoon & Chassis in the amount of $577,689. as well as required ancillary equipment in the amount of $103,805, from Hall-Mark Fire Apparatus Inc. of Ocala, Fla.; the total purchase amount is $681,494." -- Huh? If the City Manager wants to spend $681,494.00 tax dollars, he should ask for it in plain English. I guess what we're talking about is 'a fire truck', but who can tell for sure

Dusty Nix always misses the point about 'guns'. Before guns, there were spears, arrows, knives, maces, clubs, and rocks that people used illegally. All those elements still exist today, and are used illegally today, as well, to inflict pain/death or brandished in a way to control others. It's not the guns...it's the lack of certain and swift punishment for those brandishing/using guns (most illegally in possession of its user), and you won't see Dusty on his soapbox raising the need, the issue, to reform such practices.

Now that the Parks&REC scandal has proven to be true, where are the apologies from the Ministerial Alliance, and most importantly, from Councilwoman Woodson. The thought of a responsible elected official accusing other elected officials of conducting a "public lynching" shouldn't be tolerated, and demands a very public apology.
---
Hey, call your Councilperson and ask if he/she has a schedule of times and places the Parks&REC trio are doing their 'public service'.

Repeat issue: Why is the story about Michelle Obama's taxpayer paid 737 'personal taxi' being discussed so one-sidely? The Air Force C-17 was actually 'working' doing business of the military for the American citizen, while Emperoress Obama's jet was endind a whirlwind joy ride to NYC and back.

Lifting the tax freeze could possibly be accomplished "IF" Council froze the existing revenue level for 2 years while re-evaluating every piece of property in Muscogee County and finding a new milage rate that would bring in the revenue at the frozen level. THEN, and only then, could Council seek another milage increase. Some people's property taxes would go up, but most would go down for a year or two. The reality is that Council wouldn't, couldn't do this.

Wonder where your tax dollars go that is so important that Congress cannot find ways to cut spending? This is copied straight fromHank Johnson's (D&D, GA 4 representative) website: "In an effort to help unemployed residents get back to work, the PCA (Partnership for Community Action - can we say ACORN with lipstick?) offers 1-week training sessions for job seekers, including résumé development, interview techniques, and effective job searching. Each training session is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. After completing the class, participants receive a $50 gas or MARTA card and a $50 Ross card to assist with the job search and clothes for interviews.
---
Congress is trying to get a 'think tank' to come up with a plan that will allow Congress to raise the 'debt ceiling' while making promises to cut spending in a few years. Of course, the next Congress will re-write/amend such promises so actually, nothing gets done. Sounds like Congress needs to get on a 12-step spending addiction program.

Online headline/story: "Prison Guards Getting Payoff for Supporting Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown? * A taxpayer rights group has blasted California Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, for giving the prison guards who funded his re-election a new contract that will eventually cost millions to a state that is virtually bankrupt. * The new contract, which must be ratified by the Democrat-controlled Legislature, undoes reforms that were put in place by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger aimed at curbing the powerful California Correctional Peace Officers Association. Specifically, Schwarzenegger imposed furlough days and refused to sign a new contract granting additional benefits * Brown, who was elected with the help of $2 million in funding by the 30,000-member union, has campaigned relentlessly to extend a series of expired California taxes to close a $25 billion budget shortfall. He was elected on a platform of decreasing government waste and spending. * "Here's the irony: Jerry Brown said there is going to be a new sheriff in town. The sheriff is not standing up to the bad guys," said Jon Coupal, president of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association. "The bad guys are the pub employee unions who do not believe there is a budget crisis in California. * Coupal told AOL News that guard salaries drive up the cost to incarcerate inmates, currently at a staggering $49,000 per inmate per year. The national average is $28,000." -- Don't say, "Oh. that can only happen in California", because it happens whenever enough DUMB&DUMBERats congregate. The following is a list of perks promised the guards: Specifically, the new contract gives prison guards the following perks:
Eight weeks of vacation per year for new employees, with additional time upon gaining seniority.
Ability to cash out an unlimited amount of accrued vacation time upon retirement, at their final pay scale.
One hour of vacation time per month that will be donated to union reps so they can conduct union business during work hours. The number of hours available for use would be unlimited.
Ten guards at each prison would be allowed to attend their annual union convention at state expense.
Any guard who has a yearly doctor checkup will receive an additional $130 per pay period.
Reduce or eliminate furlough days, which would cost taxpayers an additional $130 million within the next two years

California wants to add gay/lesbian/transsexual /bi-sexual agenda to its Sex Education curriculum.... The "Hope Scholarship" has mirrored the demise of the "Social Security" horror story. DUMB&DUMBERats looked at all the revenue accumulating in trust funds during the early years, and devised ways to use those funds in other ways. Now that need for those funds has caught up, the funds have been strained to where the funds aren't sufficient to even cover the original concept.

After thinking about it, I do think the Mayor should have the ability to 'fire' any department head/manager as he/she sees fit, with Counsel having the power to over rule the firing by as 2/3rd vote.

California wants to add gay/lesbian/transsexual /bi-sexual agenda to its Sex Education curriculum.... I thought that sex-ed was to teach about basic sexuality, and besides, if being gay, lesbian, transsexual, or gay is as natural as proponents claims, why do those need to be taught in school classes? Or even taught at all!

Online headline/story: "1 Year Later: Could BP Spill Actually Save the Gulf Coast? * But the oil spill may also hold the key toward reversing decades of wetland loss. And that begs the question: Could one of the worst catastrophes to ever hit the Gulf Coast also be its salvation?" -- Could it be as simple as scientist researching a Bible? Maybe they could realize that God has always worked in mysterious ways.
---
L-E headline: "‘Let’s Talk! … With the Mayor:’ Complaints about Carver Park woes dominate forum with Tomlinson" -- Hmmm, looks like campaign promises are being brought to light.

From Richard Hyatt's column: "
The trial was shrouded in drama and for the past 25 years the verdict has withstood the scrutiny of various judges and three appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court. His innocence has never been a serious consideration. Belated DNA findings are inconclusive and at times were used to delay the process -- and to keep Gary alive." -- Only partially 'the truth'; the appeals and delays do more than keep Gary alive... they keep too many lawyers fed.

Inexcusable L-E editing: The following picture is labled "Taylor" and supposedly is the person mentioned as killed in Afghanistan: " Staff Sgt. Cynthia Renea Taylor, 39, was one of five soldiers killed when an Afghan National Army soldier working as a Taliban sleeper agent detonated a bomb vest he was wearing in a meeting attended by about 40 people * Taylor served with the 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky. She served as a wheeled vehicle mechanic assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company with the 101st Airborne Division. Taylor. -- Let's pray Sgt Taylor's family doesn't see this and have to cope with such avoidable trauma.

L-E headline/story: "First lady’s plane in near miss * WASHINGTON — Federal aviation officials say a plane carrying first lady Michelle Obama aborted a landing Monday after coming too close to a military cargo jet."-- How come the military cargo jet is playing second fiddle in this event. The cargo jet was working for the American people and their soldiers; Mrs Emperor Obama was simply out joy riding at taxpayer expense.
---
L-E headline "DOH": Obama rips GOP debt cutting plan * Yet president optimistic about compromise " -- Of course Emperor Scarlet Obama rips the GOP and would like to compromise. A debt reduction plan attacks the Obama spending plan, and any compromise by the GOP would mean more money is added back to Obama's spending plans.

Online headline/story: "Arizona Gov. Brewer Vetoes Presidential 'Birther' Bill * Brewer said in her veto letter that she was troubled that the bill empowered Arizona's secretary of state to judge the qualifications of all candidates when they file to run for office." -- She got the Arizona "illegal alien" bill right, and she got this one right, too; and both for the right reasons.

Hawksins, 17, turned themselves in to Clarke County Jail in Athens, Ga., and were booked shortly after 9 a.m. Monday after warrants were issued for their arrests * Bonner (5-foot-11, 170 pounds) is a highly recruited defensive back with scholarship offers from a long list of schools including Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, South Carolina and Southern California. Bonner and the two others from Columbus were on a recruiting visit at Georgia on April 7 when the thefts took place, according to police * It is not known how the arrests would affect their status with the Carver football team." -- Unbelievable....When first reported,it was not known how the arrests would affect their status with the Carver football team".. Later, it was added that thew players would get 5 games suspensions (at a minimum). This should be a no-brainer. and there should be an immediate transfer to the Alternative School, and no more football.

I know our program doesn’t stand for those types of things, and I don’t want to be represented by that.” * “This will be a lesson for all our kids on how not to embarrass the program and how not to embarrass what you’ve established,” McGee said. " -- The "boys will be boys" excuse doesn't apply here. Not even the concept of stupidity fits. This was simply an arrogance of feeling entitled to take just because they didn't have these things. We'll be providing 'room and board' over a lifetime for these 3.

Richmond County/Augusta and Muscogee County/Columbus are very similar in many ways...consolidated governments/border cities et al. Even their populations and population stagnation are similar, but this chart was released by the GA Dept of Labor for March, 2011:
I haven't looked at other Metro areas, but 1 noticeable statistics is that Augusta has 80% more people in its 'work force' than Columbus. In fact, Augusta has more people in its work force than it has people in its city/county. What is they say, "Figures never lie, but liars figure a lot."?

I know Habitat for Humanity is grateful for its sponsors/volunteers, but spending thousands of dollars on a newspaper ad versus a handwritten 'thank you' note seems to be a somewhat abusive misuse of donations. Those thousands could have made an impact on another home's construction.

The other day, rather than face the nation with an open question session, Emperor Scarlet Obama chose to let ABC's George Step-all-over-himself-while-fawning. George would make the perfect replacement for the late TV pitchman, Billy Mays.

Online story found yesterday: "The CEO of IBM offered the Obama administration a free software program that would have cut Medicare and Medicaid fraud by almost a trillion dollars, but he was turned down – twice. "We could have improved the quality and reduced the cost of the healthcare system by $900 billion...I said we would do it for free to prove that it works. They turned us down, "IBM chairman and CEO Samuel Palmisano said during a Sept. 14, 2010 taping of the Wall Street Journal’s Viewpoints program." -- Where has this story been hiding...we probably can guess why because it was close to the November Election date, but why is it just emerging, and why don't we see it in main stream media?
---
Got one response to my inquiry about the letter writer who said Mayor Mother Teresa Obamalinson had wanted the police to be more concerned about future drug checks ob I-185 et al. One BCer has heard that she may have asked/demanded that one law enforcement head to 'give her notice' so that she might be in attendance. Hmmm,
that would have created a new low for lawyering... skip the ambulance chase, just ride with the police to meet new clients.
---
A Senate report just outlined how Goldman-Sachs screwed over it's clients, the markets, and every legitimate American homeowner. This was one of the companies that Emperor Scarlet Obama said was 'too big to fail", so he sent them hundreds of million more dollars out of homeowners' pockets. The Emperor has to want our country to tank.

Why is it when we have rich third independent candidates on the presidential ballot, both Perot and Trump look like poster children for 'bad hair' days?

L-E headline/story: "Obama confident Congress will raise debt limit * Pushed to the brink, Obama said, the two parties would find “a smart compromise.” -- Only a kawyer would feel any compromise is "smart". Maybe for the lawyer, but all a compromise does is produce two sides that aren't happy with the outcome, and the result will be that the two sides will eventually be back at each others throats and have to re-hire the lawyers.
---
L-E headline: "Ex-Northside student undergoes surgery to save vision * Miguel suffered aneurysm on flight to California" -- On the safe side, and in fairness we must give a certain amount of benefit of the doubt, but kudos for the L-E actually checking into the facts surrounding this "story". Numerous 'red flags' are raised as to the actually veracity of such a plea as is being made.
---
The Georgia Legislature should totally defund its Public Defender provisions until a bill is passed making use of a court ordered Public Defender exempt from any Court of Appeals directives making "ineffective assistance of counsel" a legitimate claim for a new trial. That, and making the GA Bar Association responsible for legal and court costs for all current and future retrials already (or to be) filed.

I would like to know why and how it cost $8,000,000.00 to restore the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta to its 1960's appearance? It is smaller than most large churches in Columbus (seating capacity of 800). I think a full disclosure of every penny spent should be made public.

L-E story: "WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service has paid out more than a half-billion dollars in homebuyer tax credits to people who probably didn’t qualify, a government investigator said Friday." -- And HELL-thScare will swamp this program in the waste/fraud category.

Online headline/story: "Arizona Legislature OKs Presidential 'Birther' Bill * The names of candidates can be kept off the ballot if the secretary of state doesn't believe the candidates met the citizenship requirement.: -- Arizona got my "hope" up for a second, but in actuality, the new law is basically neutered because it is in one person's hands as to whether a candidate will be deemed qualified. Can you see a DUMB&DUMBERat or Republican Secretary of State rejecting his/her party's candidate?

Emperor Scarlet Obama may claim to be an experienced 'string puller', but it's more evident he majored in "string pushing".

Random thought: Why does government crack down on online gambling sites, but allows online stock 'trading'?
---
Why is it even an issue for demanding ID for illegal aliens? When we went to Atlanta for the day to take our daughter to the Capitol Building so she could serve as a page, we were made to produce oicture ID every time we went into the Capitol.
---
My Sunday School teacher made an astute comment about the new Atheist billboard campaign that is popping up around the South: Atheists must be scared of what they believe as they seem to feel they have to re-enforce their thoughts for public approval. If I believe something, I do not need others to validate my belief.

Reiteration: What does a person's knowledge of hockey have to do with being able to schedule rink time and open and close the doors?
---
Laker coach Phil Jackson was fined $75,000.00 for a comment he made about the NBA players' collective bargaining situation. It just emphasizes how warped pro basketball wages have become it it takes a $75,000.00 penalty to get one's attention for speaking out when such is a guaranteed right of our US Constitution.

The world's oldest person just died in Montana.. he was 114. Imagine living in 3 centuries, and your last memory on earth was Emperor Scarlet Obama having a temper tantrum.

While it's really not a problem for Phenix City citizens, does anyone out here know anything about the comments the letter writer made about Mother Teresa Obamalinson telling the our Police Department management that drug block operations need not be made? I want to know if there is any truth in the letter writer's claims.

Online headline: "Obama's Blistering Attack On GOP" -- What a hypocrite! For two years Emperor Scarlet Obama had majorities in both Houses who passed whatever they wanted (except an actual budget), and now he wants to pistol whip the Republicans and the Republicans' programs will be what will get the Emperor re-elected in b 2012.
---
When it comes to leadership, Emperor Scarlet Obama must have got his degree in 'String Pushing'. Exploiting senior citizens' fears is neither "hope" nor "change"; it's simply fear mongering.
---
Yesterday mid-morning headline: "Obama to Call for Medicare Cuts, Tax Hikes in Speech" -- Why does media shoot it self in the foot (and a few other places) by reporting what Emperor Scarlet Obama (or anyone else, for that matter) is going to say for himself later on in the day? I guess the media can say later that what the Emperor says later is not what he meant or simply the TelePrompter messed up and 'said' something different.
---
Online headline: 'Egypt's Mubarak Hospitalized With Heart Problems" -- Emperor Scarlet Obama was probably startled to find out he had one after consistently displaying his obvious lack of a brain.
---
Now the liberal doves (I know...redundant) are advocating budget savings by not engaging in 'war' because of the replacement costs of jets and missiles and bombs. Hmm, liberals feel it's OK to pay for foreign aid, and presidential vacations (working or not) to foreign countries with money we're borrowing from the Chinese, but it's not OK for using the Chinese money to pay for replacement equipment made in this country.

Barry Bonds....all one has to do to know if he used HGH and steroids is to look at his rookie pictures and his final season pictures. No adult's head grows that much without excessive chemical influence. Same goes for Mark McGwire et al.

The prosecutors could should have used a variation of the OJ Defense, and pulled out Bond's rookie year hat and have him try it on with the caveat that "If it fits, then acquit.".

Worthy a partial repeat: Basically, what the secondary rink needs is a good assistant to the current Civic Center manage/executive since obviously he has experience overseeing the main ice rink. How come there's someone not on the existing city payroll who's qualified for that expansion of duties? I emphasize my point of isn't there someone, anyone, on the existing city payroll who is worthy of his/her job duties being expanded to become the assistant to a Civic Center exec who is already in place; if not, why not? Shoot, even our City Manager has 2 assistants.

Superior Court clerk’s officials said those documents are typically signed by judges or their secretaries. Reports vary, but it appears we have about 400 billionaires in the US, and the average billionaire is worth about $3,500,000,000.00. Altogether their worth is about $1.4 trillion. Even if Emperor Scarlet Obama confiscated all their wealth today, he'd still be short of reducing the debt he's already piled onto our children's and grandchildren's future. To boot, by confiscating all the accumulated wealth of theses financially successful giants, Emperor Scarlet Obama's plans for recovery would be out the window as trillions of dollars of commercial revenue and millions of existing jobs would become non-existent.

L-E headline/story: "MUSCOGEE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD * Discussion on alternative education facilities headed to special meeting * The board was to vote on the recommendation Monday at the regular monthly meeting but board chair Cathy Williams suggested that since the issue is “so complex” that a special board meeting to discuss nothing but alternative education be held sometime before the May work session. Board members agreed." -- This is the problem with accepting federal grants that basically are our tax dollars we sent to Washington (which after trimming close to 80% of those tax dollars for General&Administrative costs of running such programs) being sent back to us to use locally.

Online headline: "Obama's Politically Risky Deficit Plan" -- The nerve of this guy...to call what he's done and wants to do is 'a plan', and for the mainstream media not calling for his recall!
---
Another online headline: "Obama Jumps Into Debt Debate; Hill to Get Preview" -- The "Hill", America, and the World have had 2 years of data to make pretty good assessments that what Emperor Scarlett Obama may say today will not change our assessment of him.
---
L-E headline: "Convicted murderer Farnsworth Coleman Jr. wants new trial seven years later" -- The Court of Appeals really stepped in it when it overturned a trial result based on "ineffective assistance of counsel ". This is the second local case since to file on that basis.
---
From above story: "“I think the case was a winner,” said defense attorney Mark Shelnutt, who filed the motion for new trial on behalf of Coleman. “If the jury had been charged like they should have been, there’s not a jury in the world that would have convicted him in my opinion.” -- What's the attorney think... that he'll draw the same jury that let him off?
---
Personal note: Any attorney filing on the basis that a criminally convicted person was convicted because of "ineffective assistance of counsel" should have to pay for a billboard sign across from the Court House naming and picturing the attorney being accused of "ineffective counseling". That way the public would know who the ineffective counsel was, or at least that attorney would have to defend him/herself in public.
---
Another L-E headline: "Ex-Rotary Club president (of Griffin, GA) gets 5 years in prison for attempted child molestation" -- Wonder if his attorney felt no jury would find this client guilty, too, and when will this attorney file for a new trial that he gave "ineffective assistance of counsel ", too?
---
The City Manager says in this day and time he doesn't have a good candidate for the new secondary ice rink because of the pay range of $40,000.00 - $60,000.00. This ain't rocket science; what the secondary rink needs is basically a good assistant to the current Civic Center manager since obviously he has experience overseeing the main ice rink. How come there's someone not on the existing city payroll who's qualified for that expansion of duties?
---
From a L-E story: "Over five years (former Parks&Rec Department Head Tony) Adams and Porter got about $135,000 in cash from Nike through an Atlanta-area nonprofit called East Marietta Basketball Inc., and instead of depositing those funds into city accounts, they routed the money to the Blazers account they’d set up using the city’s tax-exempt ID number, police said." -- Why hasn't the CB&T person who opened this account using the City exempt number been identified? Surely, CB&T would not, could not legally authorize an account using the City's tax exempt number without direct confirmation/approval of the City Finance Department.

While my bride was recuperating from surgery, she became attached to a TV show on the Food Network called "Chopped". It's a cook-off between chefs who are given a 'surprise basket of ingredients' which they have to turn into a palatable course for the judges. Last night, ingredients included were literally "goat brains", and "fish heads". Following the second course, an ad for Petsmart was aired. I had to wonder if the next shows 'surprise basket of ingredients' might include dog, cat and hamster parts.

Changes made by the DUMB&DUMBERat Party in running the city of Washington, D.C. itself, but reversed by the Republican Party during budget negotiations reveal why we must be diligent in selecting the representatives we send to Congress. In the last 4 years, the D&D's had put in city paid abortions, a 'used needle exchange' for druggies, and at the same time, took away a city school voucher program so parents could no longer send their children to the schools of their choices. Let's see... in a nutshell, the D&D's feel accommodating/supplementing sex and substance abuse are more important than our children's education and future.

Online "headlie" & story: "Obama Prevents Budget Cuts to Favorite Programs * Such moves permitted Obama to save favorite programs - Pell grants for poor college students, health research and "Race to the Top" aid for public schools, among others - from Republican knives." -- What BS! The reason these programs didn't get chopped is that Republicans also recognize comparatively good use of public dollars.
---
Online headline/story: "Court Won't Lift Stay on Arizona Immigration Law * The U.S Justice Department sued to block the law, saying it violates the U.S. Constitution because enforcing immigration law is a federal issue." -- DOH! If the Feds were enforcing the immigration law prpoerly, this would be moot.

In a news story concerning one plane's wing clipping the tail of another plane's tail while they were 'taxiing' comes this tidbit: "The FAA didn't immediately say how many people were on the double-deck Airbus A380, which can carry 525 passengers in a three-class configuration or more than 850 in a single-class configuration." -- How can a set amount of space be allowed to cram 850 people into an area that 525 people feeled crammed to begin with?

Online headline: "Walmart Woos Customers With Revived 'Low Prices, Every Day' Campaign" -- Walmart would be more successful re-jumpstarting its momentum if it went back to a campaign slogan before this one, "Always the low price, Always!"

If you have children/grandchildren in middle or high school, contact one of our state Senators or Representatives about a 'page' experience. Josh McKoon 'sponsored' our Maggie yesterday in the state Senate, and she had a marvelous time/experience as she saw first hand how government works (or doesn't work as the case may be). Too boot, she got paid $10.00 for her efforts (would someone explain how the state can ignore minimum wage laws?), and an 8 X 10 glossy.

L-E's "Thought for Today": “Future years will never know the seething hell and the black infernal background of countless minor scenes and interiors, (not the official surface courteousness of the Generals, not the few great battles) of the Secession war; and it is best they should not — the real war will never get in the books.” — Walt Whitman, American author and poet (1819-1892). -- What Whitman couldn't conceive of is that even the real war story would be re-written, politically corrected, and continually used as a battering ram by those that know 'moving on' would stop the cash flow that spewing hatred has generated for their pockets.

April 12, 1861 was the start of the Civil War; April 12, 1961 was the start of man's conquest of space. What a difference 100 years can make....unless of course, you personally benefit from not forgiving or moving on with life.

The town government’s annual budget is only $212,000. " -- If the same formula was applied to Columbus, our total budget needs would be about $8.5 million dollars. As it is, between city and MCSD expenditures, our budget is over half-a-billion dollars. Other than questionably educated children, roads with potholes, and higher crime rates, what are we getting for our money over the $8.5 million?

Online headline: "Study: Conservative, Liberal Brains Physically Different" -- Yeah, conservatives' actually have them and use them.

From the L-E's "5 questions" series: It must be tough for a brain surgeon to publicly reveal he doesn't have one himself.
---
My bride looked at the Leaderboard during the Masters and quipped, "It looks like this is the Australian Open." Of course that ended when Schwartzelel birdied to the house and relegated the Aussies to Greg Norman status...a.k.a. no lifetime tee time for an Aussie.
---
McIlroy's wheels came off, but he still finished the race. Character matters.
---
Could only shake my head in disbelief when one of the Masters' commentators stated the Leaderboard represent all continents except Antarctica and the Arctic. Will someone please send him a geography book; the Arctic has never been categorized as a continent.
---
Remember the report Mike Owen made on the vandalized fencing along the Riverwalk? Kudos for him actually going back to the site to check on progess; but razzberries for his acceptance of the City's band-aid repair as being "a start".
---
L-E's "Quotable": “If you lose the power to laugh, you lose the power to think.” Clarence Darrow American attorney (1857-1938) -- Hmm explains why Reid and Pelosi and Biden and Gore are such sticks in the mud.
---
If the state legislature is looking for more tax revenues, how about putting sales taxes on legal fees and jury awards. Of course, do to personal conflict of too many lawyers in the legislature, that ain't gonna happen.
---
If NATO and the African Union are negotiating Gadfly's future, why does the UN exist, and why are UN members exempt from paying NYC all those parking tickets?

Soul Surfer... now showing at Carmike 15 and Ritz 13. Take your kids, take your grandkids, take your siblings' kids, but see it and introduce any kids you can on what a "can do with God attitude" can accomplish. Donate tickets to your church youth group, too! (but don't miss it yourself!)

---
What's sad about the deal to avert shutting down the government is that it didn't actually stop any spending; it only reduced the amount of what they were spending from the amount of money Congress didn't have to begin with.
---
Online headline/story: "Tax Time Windfall: Family Gets $54,000 Tax Refund * The Wards make about $39,000 per year. You would guess that would make a tax refund such as theirs impossible, right? Not at all, thanks to refundable tax credits. * For nearly 15 years, the adoption tax credit was nonrefundable * That all changed in 2010, when the credit became refundable." -- This is just wrong! How can DUMB&DUMBERats pass such a law/tax rule that is just so wrong.
---
L-E liberal's "soundoff": " There is no doubt in my mind who is responsible for the shutdown — the radical Republicans who are shouting “Shut it down.” They campaigned on their contempt of the “guvment.” -- He/she is right.... Of course what he/she chooses not to see is that Republicans and supportive Independents would rather see the government "shutdown" rather than let the DUMB&DUMBERats continue in their effort to shutdown America.
---
Congressman Bishop doesn't sit on a fence, he's a fence post! He votes for stripping the EPA on its "authority to regulate greenhouse-gas emissions associated with climate-change and challenging the science upon which those regulations are based.", yet votes for Congress accepting "EPA’s “scientific findings that climate change is occurring, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for public health and welfare.” Let's pray that Congressional redistricting will remove his Columbus bloc vote so the Albany folks can replace him in 2012.
---
Why would the L-E give space for Master's commentary to a AP staffer no one cares about his opinions? Guess it was easier and cheaper than to send a local reporter to Augusta. Of course, if the only L-E reporter available for such duty was Dimon Kendrick-Holmes, then the L-E made a good choice.
---
Robert Redford is making a movie on the Civil War. Somehow I can't be too excited about his perspective..there'll probably be more emphasis on the effect of black powder canon fire's impact on the ozone layer.

Online "headlie": "Lawmakers Reach 'Historic' Deal to Avoid Government Shutdown" -- Wrong! Should read "Lawmakers Reach 'Hysteric' Deal to Avoid Government Shutdown".
---
L-E "soundoff": " I’m sorry. I’m not a Republican, nor do I support this war for the benefit of the new CEO of BP." -- Finally, a liberal who admits his/her confusion.."I'm sorry."
---
L-E story: "Republicans, in voting to repeal rules on “network neutrality” set down by the Federal Communications Commission, said the FCC lacked the authority to promulgate the rules. They disputed the need to intervene in an already open Internet and warned that the rules would stifle investment in broadband systems. * But in what has become a largely partisan battle, the Democrat-controlled Senate is not expected to go along with the House." -- You'd think the Mubarak attempt to disenfranchise Egyptians of internet access would expose the DUMB&DUMBERats desire to have the same capability to do that in America. .
---
It really doesn't bother me that School Board members attend improvement conferences (obviously the two long termers planning to go need a lot improving), but California as a place to hold such a conference is pretty much oxymoronic if they are looking for model programs. I also wonder why the traveling group cannot find accommodations at a Holiday Inn Express or other lower cost establishment within walking/bus distance.
---
Why is a 'bookmobile' equipped with voter registration capabilities? Is there an attending person responsible or capable of determining a user of such is a bona fide American or state citizen?
---
Two years ago, had anyone even thought about there being a time that Tiger Woods' performance would be considered a 'comeback performance" or one showing "flashes of prior greatness" or he'd come "roaring back to life"?
---
L-E headline: " U.S. CORN RESERVES AT 15-YEAR LOW" -- Ooops, my bad. Thought Congress was finally cleaning up its campaign promises.
---
Reflecting on our recent beach trip, the meals were extraordinarily high. I know the folks are glad to see big numbers of vacationers returning to the beaches, but do the restaurateurs have to try to make it all up on each meal?

L-E headline/story: "Two female CSU students charged with public indecency *(They) were discovered having a sex in a third-floor study room by CSU Police Cpl. R. Andrew Splawn, according to a police incident report." -- What happened to "allegedly"?

I saw "the Donald, Jr" on TV the other day. He'd have a tough time trying to deny his genetic birthright; he has his dad's deformed hair.

After his collapses/disappointments in the final rounds of 1986, 1987, and 1996 to finish second at the Masters, don't you know it really bugs Greg Norman to drive down Magnolia Lane knowing he doesn't have a set tee time for life?
---
Scarlett Obama can stop the government shutdown with simply a call to Harry Reid. It's that simple. What person can be considered "sane" who can avoid the angst of not sending a paycheck to the men and women of the best equipped and best functioning military in the world with one phone call?
---
L-E headline: "Michael Curry's defense team files motion claiming a neighbor may have been responsible for 1985 bush-ax slayings" -- If Curry truly believed this, why wasn't he pursuing this for the last 25+ years? If I think if I knew the remotest possibility existed that the neighbor was guilty of killing my wife and children, I'd never have rested until I did something about it. Wonder how many times Curry's dog ate his homework when he was in school?

From L-E story on MCSD board members' upcoming San Francisco trip: “I went to the state conference and in four days learned more than in two months on the job,” New member Mark) Cantrell said. “I can’t afford not to go.” Asked about the cost, he said: “I may find an idea there that saves us a million dollars.” -- I'm not so sure that's what the voters want from Cantrell. Seems to me that a new board member is elected because the voters were tired of what the previous member had 'learned' from being a member, and the voters wanted someone to bring the voters' perspective to the seat.
---
From same L-E story: "Hugley-Green also thinks the trip will be productive: “You work there. It is no vacation,” she said. “It can get you to think outside the box.” -- If school board members need to learn "to think outside of the box", San Francisco is not "the box" board members need to learn how to think. California in general, and San Francisco specifically, are more of examples not to duplicate.

From Richard Hyatt's column: "Some firms do stress service and their employees reflect that desire. We can reward them with our business and our gratitude. As for the others, don’t grin and bear it. Let them know you’re upset." -- Richard has finally seen the light...of course when he was working regularly at the L-E, he didn't feel this way about responses when anyone called his point of view inane or overly liberal.
---
L-E story: "WASHINGTON — Those yearly statements that Social Security mails out — here’s what you’d get if you retired at 62, at 66, at 70 — will soon stop arriving in workers’ mailboxes. It’s an effort to save money and steer more people to the agency’s website." -- If Washington wanted to save money, it can just print those reports in red ink. Washington has more red ink than it knows what to do with, and as for saving on mailings, the postmen and postwomen are already going door-to-door delivering other mail, so just slip the reports into their pouches.
---
L-E's " Quotable": “It is legal because I wish it.” Louis XIV French monarch (1638-1715) -- No wonder Scarlett Obama is so endeared to the French lifestyle.

L-E teaser: "Libyan leader Gadhafi appealed directly to President Obama to end what he called “an unjust war.” He also wished Obama good luck " -- Hmm, will Emperor Imam-a's response be to bow, kowtow, or simply raise an eyebrow?
---
OK, new name change time...our President will now be known as Scarlett Obama for his "fiddle-dee-dee..I'll worry about it tomorrow" attitude about everything that's actually important.
---
Why would a Congressperson bother to try to low the drinking age of military personnel from 21 to 18? Every minor who wants to drink probably has a pretty good fake ID already.

Does anyone else think we have too many Hugleys on the public payroll?

From the ""huh?" department - Online story: "Maine Gov. Paul LePage, who ignited a storm of protest by removing a labor-themed mural from a state office building last month, is now facing demands from the U.S. Department of Labor to restore the artwork or repay the $60,000 federal grant used to create it. " -- Why in the world was a painting paid for with a federal grant to begin with, but more perplexing is why would the government pay for a union, not 'labor', themed wall painting to begin with?

L-E headline/story: "Columbus police: Woman accused of allowing alcohol sales at party with teens * Joia Jones, 20, is charged with no alcohol license, operating a business without a license and conducting a public dance, reports state." -- What about the most obvious crime.. a minor in possession of alcohol?
---
Emperor Imam-a now says he can't run a government based on two week budgets... huh? He hasn't had a budget since last year when Congress was heavily majoritied with DUMB&DUMBERats.
---
Fox News needs to yank Geraldo out of Libya. We all know what a egoist he has always been, but he's endangering his camera and reporting staff with his ego-gratifying desire to be filmed with live gunfire in the foreground. Either that, or he's orchestrating another scam TV action like Al Capone's 'vault'.

Lee Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Fla., and an honorary doctorate from American Baptist College." -- Either this is bad reporting or bad investigating.. if he was a graduate, why did he receive an honorary degree?
---
Nowhere is lobbyist spending more grievous than when utilities lobby Public Service Commission personnel. GA Power constantly advertises on the ways, and its 'green friendly' rewards, to lower energy use, yet when the public cuts back on energy usage, GA Power files for rate increases because the public is using less energy than previously anticipated. The rub is that GA Power Co uses the money spent advertising using less as an expense necessitating a rate increase.
---
It's somewhat ironic, even macabre, that when Alabama State University makes a road trip to recruit Phenix City students, that ASU uses a Columbus, GA facility.

Ho-hum... the Final Bore is over. March Madness was an April Fool's joke.

Have you seen the 'ad war' between Arby's and Wendy's RE: fish sandwiches? Of course you have, they've been ubiquitous. Finally got to compare both. Arby's lived up to my expectations, exceeded them actually, while Wendy's was way short.
---
So Emperor Imam-a is going to run again in 2012. Since he likes to use the internet to make it easy for liberals to donate to him, why doesn't he set up a website to make it easy for all those libs who think they don't pay enough in taxes already to pay extra taxes to reduce the National Debt?

Let's see, Smith, AL is erecting a new state-of-the-art high school for 1,500 +/- students at a cost of $32,000,000.00; mean while back at the ranch, MCSD is building a new Carver for 1,500 +/- students at a cost of $45,000,000.00. Something doesn't look or sound right.

Whoot, there it is; "ineffective assistance of counsel"! -- The Court of Appeals opened a real can of lawyers, er, worms a week or so ago, and we're going to pay for it with higher court costs, longer log jams in the court process, and the perfect defense of defense attorneys to appeal old cases.

Not only is Ed "yellow dog", he's "yellow" throughout by not using his full name.

L-E headline: "9/11 suspects to face military tribunals * Holder reverses position on trying them in New York" -- Ooooh... obviously, Emperor Imam-a definitely isn't as confident as he's trying to portray about either him getting re-elected in 2012, or sees the Senate becoming a Republican super-majority.

L-E story: "WASHINGTON — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is telling lawmakers that the country is only weeks away from reaching the limit on the amount of money the government can borrow. * But he warns that the most time he could buy is another eight weeks, or until around July 8. " -- Is there absolutely no shame in the Emperor Imam-a administration? Geithner knows May 16th is the date the limit will be reached, but he's still out there trying to "buy" another 8 weeks without any money to spend.

This will be a daily inclusion of the Breakfast Club: Diane Schneider, a representative with the National Education Association (NEA), said that graphic sex education needs to be taught in the classroom. * "She said that 'gender identity expression' and sexual orientation are a spectrum, and...that those [who are] opposed to homosexuality are stuck -- quote -- 'in a binary box that religion and family create.' -- This should be sent to every teacher in every school district, and they should be asked to either endorse it, demand Ms Schneider be fired, or drop their NEA membership.

From the "who'da thunk it" department: Looks like Gaddafy and Emperor Imam-a share an ironic parallel. Neither can/will produce a certified birth certificate, and neither has a clear religious history.

Follow up on the MCSD giving $800.00 netbooks to all Carver High School students. Seems it's a problem caused by putting someone in charge of purchasing who sees a budget as an opportunity to spend rather than looking at options and figuring out how to save/spend less than is available. These $200-$300 dollar marvels were loaded with Microsoft Office Professional when "Open Office" could have been installed for free, and there's a 3 year tracking (which will have to be renewed) contract, versus simple software with GPS capabilities. The same lack of training as a buyer (versus spender)gave us cost overruns for the original SPLOST. Let's hope the process gets corrected FAST as ongoing purchasing will be required to replenish/replace obsolete technology, plus soon every high school will demand to be included.
---
What a waste of time, effort, and ink! If I had a chance to ask 5 questions to successful local business people, I think I'd ask pertinent questions that would actually be of interest to the interviewee and the public.
---
The same thing happened to Social Security and Medicare as with the GA Lottery; politicians saw huge amounts of money coming in, and diluted the original intent of the programs by expanding the coverage to include other people/programs that were not thought about in the original planning.
---
Everyone has a thought about Nicklaus's 1986 win at Augusta. Mine? It gave him the right to present Larry Mize the green jacket in 1987.
---
Whew! UGA vs MSU baseball...it was a Dawg ate Dog weekend.
---
When a cellphone provider advertises free service for low income families, you can bet the users of other services are getting soaked by the government!

In Wisconsin, prisoners received over $250,000.00 in "unemployment benefits". Now, is there anyone who cannot sympathize with Governor Scott Walker's efforts to end government unions?

Emperor Imam-a has 'wagged the media's tail' with his Libyan ploy. Now, Afghanistan and the Mexican situations are under the radar in the newspaper and TV news shows.
---
HB80..our Senator, Josh McKoon makes a passionate and effective argument for its passage. I agree.
---
Whether you believe or not believe the birth certificate debate concerning Emperor Imam-a, and the news stories chronicling his birth in Hawaii, if a future president is born in Columbus, there'd be no record of it unless the baby's family had the insight to buy an ad to announce it (with the exception of a New Year's Day baby).
---
Leonard Pitts' commentary continues to reach new depths of racism. I guess throwing the race card out when you have no other defense still works in the McClatchy system.
---
Looking back at the last month or so, it looks like Emperor Imam-a's NCAA bracket choices have fared better than his Libyan, Syrian, Yemen, Egyptian, Iraqi, Irani, and Afghanistan choices.

Online story: "KABUL, Afghanistan -- Afghans angry over the burning of a Quran at a small Florida church stormed a U.N. compound in northern Afghanistan on Friday, killing seven foreigners, including four Nepalese guards." -- Let's see...if their guys wound one of ours, send 7 of theirs to the morgue; hmmm, the Quran must have been written by Al Capone rather than Allah. So much for turning another cheek, or only 'an eye for an eye'.

Emperor Imam-a has just appointed a new Alabama Attorney General. Guess he fired the one appointed by Bush, but there's certainly no outrage like when Bush made appointments to replace those appointed by President Clinton.
---
California has 2.4 Million government employees. Probability is that each of those has 1 to 6 relatives with some dependence on those employees who can vote also (spouses, parents, in-laws, grown children). Therefore, there are 4.8 to 14.4 million voters with major interest in electing DUMB&DUMBERats to their state and US Congresses. In 2010, the CA population topped 37 million people, so there is a range of government dependent employees ranging from 13 to 38% of the population and a much higher percent of the voters base. Throw in all government program recipients and it's easy to see why CA is so pro-DUMB&DUMBERat, as well as why CA is bankrupt!
---
L-E headline: "The joke’s on New England with April Fools’ snowstorm " -- Hmmm, it's more like the "i" and the 't' of the slam against the Global Warming theocracy have been dramatically 'dotted' and 'crossed'.
---
Mike Cameron.... name rings a bell, but until today, when I read in the paper that he makes nearly $8 million a year playing baseball, I wanted to know more. Turns out he's the centerfielder for Boston. Sure would have been nice if the L-E had mentioned that in the article, but I guess that's why Google stock is where it is , and McClatchy stock is where it is.

Hollywood is going to make a movie about the shenanigans of former Senator/VP candidate/(_@_) John Edwards. Hollywood wonders why attendance is wallowing.

Online headline: "Obama: Illegals doing 'all the right things' won't be deported" -- Huh? Being here illegal is not doing 'all the right things' to begin with!

Don't know how I missed this, but what will happen/has happened to the student? -
L-E online story of March 29, 2011: "A Carver High School student had her school-issued netbook stolen from the Frank D. Chester Recreation Center earlier this month, police said. * The theft was reported Monday, though police say it happened between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. March 7, when the student had put the netbook in the bleachers of the Rec center while she practiced. Afterward, she realized it was gone, reports state. * The netbook is valued at $800. " -- First of all, how is this $800.00 when I see them advertised between $199.00 and $299.00 everywhere, but more importantly why are students issued (obviously) take home equipment paid with tax dollars?
---
Mike Owen asked Mother Teresa Obamalinson if she thought Columbus would get more attention from Governor Deal than Perdue. Does Owen not know the Governor's son-in-law is a Columbus man?
---
The Lee County ad for Kindergarten Pre-Registration makes a clear point of an original birth certificate being require before given an opportunity to participate in the process. Why did not the Presidential Primaries process require this from all entrants?
---
The DUMB&DUMBERat voters wanted a president with a "can't we all just get along" foreign policy, and we got one. Now we are involved in more armed conflicts in more countries than during WWI and WWII.
---
It's easy to understand how the left can ignore the contradiction of Emperor Imam-a wanting to arm Libyan Muslim rebels, but how has the right missed the analogy that he wants to disarm American citizens, too?
