What possible good will be accomplished in Columbus by opening up the Civic Center and Trade Center as voting centers? If you make them "designated" precincts, there's hardly anytime to contact and inform voters of change, and making either/both "universal" would create HAVOC! Undoubtedly, it would increase in time to vote...because it would require complete voter registration lists versus localized & shorter versions (plus I doubt seriously voting officials at the "pop-up" precincts could possibly inform officials at the voters' "normal" precinct and be verified before some votes are counted twice), and having to encode the complete options on voting cards, plus the separation of the paper ballots from the ones at the designated neighborhood precincts. Would you believe a "quick count" came in at about 3-dozen signs in a confined area? And that didn't count the directional signs painted on the road bed! To boot, I met another car that made a "left turn" entering the Roundabout, and saw another actually "backing up" so she could get off on the right street.. Hmmm... Wonder how long it will be before traffic lights (like ones the J. R. Allen Parkway entry ramps) will be installed at the Roundabout accesses...

In fact, the first thing I'd do on the Monday morning check-in with our Buying Office was to look at my initial appointment schedule and call them to see where I could rearrange them so I could actually get out of NYC on Thursday rather than Friday. Additionally, I loved watching a new assistant or buyer preparing or his/her first NY Buying Trip.. all the week before, they would anxiously buy a new outfit or two that would shine as bright as their eyes about hitting the streets of NYC on Monday AM and "fit in" with the perceived "glitz and glamour" they imagined it would be.. It was almost amusing to watch their smiles dissipated as they left the hotel lobby on their first day.. it was even sadder to see them "rubber-necking" at all the unexpected visuals on their walk up the street to the Buying Office.. filthy walls and streets, cartoonish wardrobes. and the ever-present drunkard from the night before, still sleep inside a doorway alcove. It was usually a very sobering walk for our newest personnel..NYC was not the vision they found after expecting the Hollywood version.. I also doubt if any of the 5 cities I've experienced allowed the "raters" to venture within 6 blocks of the inner city low-income housing areas...and even though we only get once-a-week-garbage-pick-ups now, give me Columbus, GA any day!

On a local issue, Columbus' every-10-year Charter Review Committee will be selected in December of this year.. There will be lots of issues to be discussed, but two should definitely be on the "charge" list.. To move local elections and tax referendums to be held only on the November General Election dates, and addressing Council's ability to abrogate it's voter responsibilities and accountabilities  to appointed committees and authorities..The only other option that will allow "the people" to control government would be to change the staggered District Elections of our two taxing authorities  to all being held in the same election year. The two-year division never puts "change".. real change.. on the ballot. Having them all decided in one election period would allow citizen groups to coordinate efforts for mass changes that can make a difference.. and at the same time protect District representatives from being railroad out by a concerted effort during a low interest election date..... I would also like to see local "runoffs" addressed so that only the candidates who originally placed in 1st and 2nd be allowed to compete in a runoff. We just experienced an ego-driven waste of $50,000.00 caused when a 2nd place finisher tried to do the right thing by dropping out, and an "also ran" took advantage of the situation for her own benefit.

Yes.. Columbus Council has been hit with a request for a "Black Lives Matter" mural to be painted on a City-owned wall at the corner.. it's not a "done deal", but will be discussed again in September. Meanwhile, I have an alternative suggestion: As both a wake-up call and a better solution, instead of an intrusive political mural of any size, how about erecting a sign with "Black Lives Matter" be posted at the site of all gang/drug related shootings... whether fatal or not.... perhaps with a solar-powered "blinking light" so they are nighttime reminders... Anyway, they would certainly be more thought shaping/changing... and sobering.. than only being viewed by gunshot victims from the back of an ambulance as they are approaching the Emergency Room As a bonus, the CPD may catch the perpetrators more often and faster.. I imagine that a lot of the shooters would want to "pose" with the signs that are erected because of their actions and will post them on Social Media which our CPD monitors...

In February 2016, Washington State (population of 7,300,000 in 2016) reached 4 million registered voters for the first time. At the time of this report, total active voters reached 4,277,499, which is about 77% of the voting age population or 83% of the voting eligible population.

Additionally, at the time of this report, there were 594,886 voters who were considered “inactive” – that is, eligible voters who were not mailed a ballot. * These are voters who have changed addresses and have not responded to follow-up communication attempts. A voter is placed on inactive status if his or her ballot or any other election material is returned as undeliverable by the postal service. " "returned"? Good grief.. nearly 600,000 registered voters were not sent ballots! Look how easy is this situation would allow "selective" distribution of mailed our ballots. Ballot requests in Georgia were mailed First Class, so the Post Office would FORWARD them to new addresses even out-of-state.

Also compare the percentage of eligible (83%) to actual (77%) of people old enough to vote.. then compare that to the 100%-PLUS figure of registered voters to Georgians 18 years or older just reported in Georgia

I could do a round trip drive in that time.. fourth - has the ASPCA. PETA or the USDA contacted the shipper about "cruelty to animals"? On the other hand.. Hmmm..let's do allow the Socialist-Democrats "mail in their ballots".. it'll make it less time consuming for conservatives to go to the polls on Election Day and make sure our votes are on time and count!
