The Louisiana political runoffs were yesterday.. The Republicans knocked off Landreiu for their 54th Senate seat, and two more Republicans have been declared winners of 2 House seats (one more is still being counted) but with 246 seats, it's the largest Republican majority since the Truman /Dewey election in 1948. One of the races really stands out. One of the Democratic Congressional candidates was 3 time former LA governor and once convicted criminal (corruption). Fortunately, he was rejected by a HUGE margin in the runoff) Personally, I'd like to know how ex-Gov/ex-felon Edwin Edwards was even allowed on the ballot, but, then again, that's Louisiana Democratic politics. Even Ray Nagin was re-elected Mayor of NOLA following his Hurricane Katrina debacle.

One of the reasons it's so difficult for Republicans to win in a California General election is that California holds a joint primary. The top two vote getters run in the General Election. It's all to common for their being two Democrats running rather than 1 Dem-1 Repub in the General Election. I live in Meriwether County and every week the newspaper, Star Mercury, has a notice about government food being given out.

So I finally felt I could use some help: 1 gallon apple juice, 1 box raisins, 1 box cookies, 1 can condensed milk, 1 quart shelf milk, 2 cans carrots, 2 sliced potatoes, a box of Jimmy Dean lunches, microwave only - were already thawed -- 2 or 3 clear plastic bags of unidentified food without FDA warning. (It was blueberries. Commercial price, approximately $5 per 8 ounces). One can Ro-Tel tomatoes. And a clear plastic bag approximately 4 pounds, no FDA warning, containing frozen black soup, about1/4 actual beans, and musk which is broth, the smell of chili powder was too overpowering to consume the soup.

Is this my imagination? What kind of meal can I make for my family?

In Columbus, commodities used to be cheese, canned meat, peanut butter, etc. We need usable food.

Forgot, also dozen or so jam packets like restaurants serve.

I hope more people know what the government gives for free.

Earlier this week, friends of mine living out towards Upatoi experienced a horror story. 3 armed men invaded their home while she was there alone. She locked herself in a bathroom then escaped via the window. The 3 men were "apprehended" later, but I've seen no coverage/report that might help other neighbors be better prepared. Soapbox moment: Questions... Why do black people feel white police officers search for huge black people they can kill? Why do huge black people simply not comply when a white police officer stops them on the street to ask questions? I'm a pretty big white guy.. maybe not "huge" in some recent comparisons, but at 6'6" and 270 pounds, I would present a contemplative situation for a police officer who felt he/she had to "cold call" me on the street. In fact, I was confronted twice back in the late 70's as I walked around my neighborhood for exercise. In fact, once was by two white officers, and once by a black officer. They were investigating the "Columbus Strangler, and I lived in the affected area. They suddenly stopped me simply because they were investigating and I was in that area. They asked questions, they asked for my ID and reason for "being here", and I complied and cooperated, and they moved on. I was, in a sense, happy to be stopped and questioned because the police were doing their duties. I also have no doubt each contemplated the situation of danger they might encounter running up to a "huge" person walking around, but simple respect on my part disarmed any aggressive action.

Good grief.. the couple was WHITE, and they were attacked by a group of teens on a wilding. This IS a HATE crime! This is a racially motivated, probably retaliatory, HATE CRIME. Follow up to yesterday's CSU anti-parent episode:

Monday's episode with trying to find a " parent's" parking spot on the CSU campus so I could pay my daughter's next semester tuition brought up another issue. She was responsible enough to sign up by a certain date, yet if she had signed up one day later, her tuition "pay by date" would have been 5 weeks later. Responsible enrollee's parents had to pay by Dec 1st, yet if she had waited a day, parents wouldn't have to pay until January 8, 2015. Something makes me wonder why there are two payment dates to begin with. You'd think signing up early would get rewarded rather than coerced.

According to Elizabeth, manager on duty, the hotel did not have any King or Double Room with two beds available. Because of this, you were provided a free upgrade to a Junior suite. Because of the free upgrade, Savannah Marriott Riverfront is not willing to provide any additional compensation.

Kristen - You must be drinking too much corporate Kool-Aid or learned PR skills from Jay Carney. As a Marriott Rewards account, Marriott would gladly have done so if I booked it direct, but my contract was through www.booking.com. It is your site where I booked at the prices you said were the 'guaranteed lowest'. An "upgrade" is not even the issue.. it did not meet the contract I had with www.booking.com, and www.booking.com was luring additional sales that same afternoon when no such rooms were available. That, my friend, at a minimum, is 'false advertising' advertising.

Public education has been in an anti-natural-parents mode for the past 50 years, but it's gotten worse in colleges lately. It was bad enough when colleges started requiring signed child-permission forms before they would even talk with parents, but yesterday demonstrated how far CSU has gone. Following my daughter's plaintive plea that her tuition was due (yesterday). In spite of all the info provided by my daughter, the CSU website did not want to deal with me, so I drove over to the Bursar's office to take a check. There were 3 parking lots whenin about 200 yards of University Hall.. I drove around for 25 minutes trying to find a parking spot. Trouble is that only 5 spaces were reserved for "visitor" use. The rest were for faculty (except for two which were reserved for "Zipcars" - whatever they are) and all were filled. I then ventured around campus looking for alternative parking options for parents.. there were none. I finally found an empty faculty spot near the Bursar's Office. In case the Parking Ticket Zealots came, I wrote a note to put in my window that read, "This is the car of a parent who is in the Bursar's Office paying his daughter's tuition (and probably your salary)".

Let's talk about our Mayor TomLYINGson's "math" for her vision of a high speed rail train to the Atlanta airport area. She says the rail will be profitable in year 1 (2030) . She says 1-way ticket will cost $41.00 and you'll get their in 60 minutes with a layover in Newnan. (She also said that 1,100,000 expected first year users will generate about $23 Million in revenue - either her math is a screwy as her vision, or $22+ Million is planned to be like the St Francis "accounting error") Let's compare this to Groome service to Atlanta or back. Groome has 36 scheduled departures daily at $36 1-way for adults (kids to age 6, free-to-$12) at today's costs for a 90 minute ride.. Groome takes you to drop off areas near your particular airline. The TomLYINGson Express will cost $41.00 (no announced kids' rates) but how will that translate in 2030 dollars when service could actually begin?. In addition, the TomLYINGson Express will have a set depot for arrival/departure so you will have to arrange to get to/from your "GATE" on your own.

I am writing to you regarding your reservation 801045704 at Savannah Marriott Riverfront, check-in date 2014-11-21, and check-out date 2014-11-23.

I attempted to contact you by phone, but was not able to reach you.

While Booking.com requires a valid credit card to make a booking, unless clearly indicated prior to booking, Booking.com does not charge guests. All details are forwarded to the hotel, who will process the payment within the terms of the booking, as selected by the guest. Because of this, all refunds are the sole discretion of the property.

Additionally, all hotels that choose to advertise on Booking.com set the rate/policy of the rooms that are advertised, as well as manage availability. As stated during the booking process, all special requests are subject to availability.

Should a guest want to confirm a special request, they need to phone or email Booking.com. An agent will then contact the hotel and ask if the request can be confirmed, then advise the guest.

I contacted Savannah Marriott Riverfront to find out what room you were provided, as well as inquire why you were not provided a room with two beds, as requested.

According to Elizabeth, manager on duty, the hotel did not have any King or Double Room with two beds available. Because of this, you were provided a free upgrade to a Junior suite. Because of the free upgrade, Savannah Marriott Riverfront is not willing to provide any additional compensation.

As I previously advised, Booking.com offer of a goodwill gesture in the amount of $39.92 is still available to you, should you choose to accept it.

Kristen - You must be drinking too much corporate Kool-Aid or learned PR skills from Jay Carney. As a Marriott Rewards account, Marriott would gladly have done so if I booked it direct, but my contract was through www.booking.com. It is your site where I booked at the prices you said were the 'guaranteed lowest'. An "upgrade" is not even the issue.. it did not meet the contract I had with www.booking.com, and www.booking.com was luring additional sales that same afternoon when no such rooms were available. That, my friend, at a minimum, is 'false advertising' advertising.

L-E commentary headline: "Washington Post: Far too little, far too late" -- How dare the Washington Post run this as a fair representation of what happened. How dare the L-E re-run without researching it. This was a story in the news a week/10days ago. I commented on it at the time. While rape and date-rape should not be tolerated .. AT All...University of Virginia President, Teresa Sullivan responded horribly, She stereotyped ALL fraternities by ordering ALL fraternities to "shut down" instead of the accused one. This is profiling in the absolute worst way. In addition, she did not limit sororities from their campus activities.. so throw in a good.. no, huge dose of gender bias into this mix.
