The November jobs report came in with 199,000 "new jobs" compared to expectations of 180,000. First thoughts make it seem "OK...even "good".. but when you look past the headlines, you'll see that the largest amount of new jobs were government/healthcare hires... and that the retail industry actually LOST jobs. ... November-December are the two most heavily staffed months for retailers... the loss here is ominous .. not only for retailers, but commercial rental properties.

Oh! And remember, come January, the City will no longer pick up garbage that’s on the street but not in your BLACK garbage can. .. and make sure you remember the incumbent Councilors who are running in March that felt this is good for Columbus!

Another for Columbus, GA taxpayers: Received a newsletter from one the Councilors that read: “The city put out a fact sheet about the judicial center to address some questions, and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to better understand. I also found it interesting to learn the architect firm has built over 90 other courthouses. The project is still on budget, except for the $7.5MM approved for another floor of shell space to accommodate growth, which everyone approved because it ensures the building would be effective for longer. “ - “it ensures the building would be effective for longer”? WHAT BS! He said this as the 50 year current building is being RAZED, but the current building has been in disrepair for more than 30 years as we speak! I just want him to explain why the 8 court rooms are going to cost $10 MILLION EACH and adding a “complete ghost floor” is “only” costing $7.5 MILLION.

We went to an event last week to hear our granddaughter sing in her school's Christmas program. Was surprised.. and delighted.. that in its rendition of "Deck the Halls" that a lyric change was made that keeps the glee in Christmas... "don we now our bright apparel"... With the new California federal tax charges filed last week, we really understand why the Delaware Prosecutor was so eager to please Resident Biden with the "plea deal" for Hunter to have immunity for all past crimes that might come to light later. Bear in mind that the same Delaware based prosecutor, David Weiss was later named "Special Prosecutor" following a judges refusal to accept the aforementioned "plea deal".

You know... With GA primaries being held on March 5th of 2024, it also means that our Columbus, GA non-partisan elections (6 Councilors, Mayor, and 4 School Board members are up for election/re-election at the same time even though the local winners won't take office until January of 2025. This means two things... 1 is that any of the incumbents that loses (or doesn't run again) has nine months being a "lame duck" official with ability to shape policy and guide expenditures in a self-indulgent manner....it also presents the number 2 option, for just the second time in our Consolidated Government history, voters get the opportunity to vote on 6 Councilors at one time, and it's a great opportunity to make a difference to our future.. and with so many issues still being thought about....(external audit, department monetary losses , upcoming decreased garbage services, City Manager incompetence, SPLOST wastes, et al) and will be fresh on voters minds going into the voting booths
