The final cost of the completed project from Los Angeles to San Francisco would be $68 billion." --$68,000,000,000.00.... the entire line driving distance by car is 382 miles. Quick math shows that just the initial start up PROJECTED cost is $178,010,471.20 per mile...$178,000,000.00+ dollars PER mile. That doesn't include government red tape, cost overruns, and tax dollar waste! Assuming the high speed rail between Columbus & Atlanta would cover about 100+/- miles, and that construction could be completed before wage hikes and inflation kick in, we're talking $17,800,000,000.00 to do the same. And that is initial costs, not the ongoing operating costs, maintenance, depreciation, tax subsidies, or the union grasp on every revenue dollar the project can possibly generate. In perspective, the Groom shuttle from Columbus to Atlanta Airport averages about (rounded off average of Columbus/Ft Benning) $70.00 round trip. For 17,800,000,000.., Groom could transport 254,285,714 persons, and not only would not cost us a penny in subsidies, but would generate over half a billion in local sales taxes ALONE! Think about moving 254,285,714... with the Columbus/Ft Benning population being about 215,000, Groom could shuttle us back and forth 1182 times PER person!

After looking at the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on HELL-thSCARE, one must conclude that this is the first 4-4-1 decision rendered. It should be reviewed with all 9 deciding on the issue as a tax related power of Congress instead of a commerce related power of Congress.

Side note to Mayor Obamalinson's obsession of high speed railways to 'insanity and beyond', a story on AMTRAK revealed that whatever the cost of a ticket, the taxpayers had to supplement each ticket for another $ .27 cents a mile. In comparison, a car from Atlanta to Birmingham (147 miles) costs about (@20 MPG, 7.5 gallons of gas (say at $3.25) around $25.00, and takes a little over 2 hours on the I-20 , while taking AMTRAK from Atlanta to Birmingham, AL costs $58.00 (plus a taxpayer supplement of $39.09 - $97.09 combined) and takes over 4 hours. In addition, AMTRAK is per person, while a car can hold your family, and once you get to Birmingham, the car travelers has transportation, while the AMTRAK rider has to rely on public transportation or a high cost rental vehicle. Unions are protesting against Walmarts in Los Angeles. Why because Walmarts is non-union. Walmarts minimum wage in Los Angeles in over $10.00 per hour, and an assistant manager earns a salary of over $55,000.00 annually. The union guys are out protesting, while the Walmart employees are on the job and earning money to support their families.

After his ommission from last weeks L-E, I thought maybe the L-E had come to its senses about the fairness of dropping John House's commentaries since he was running for Congress, since Karl Douglass works for another candidate, the incumbent, in fact, but, no, this is not the case. By the way, I do think Roberts' vote was the only honest one made.. that he considered the mandate to buy HELL-thSCARE, and the fine for not doing so, as a tax and tax penalty.
