Got an invite to an event at the Main Columbus Library for April 26th re: Living History. featuring G. Wayne Clough, retired from the Smithsonian, and CSU's own Virginia Causey enlightening us about their new books. Am very interested in both as I hope the shroud used to cover FDR's casket as the funeral train took him back north was made in our store, and donated by my grandfather, is still at the Smithsonian, and hopefully I might pick up something new about my family in Virginia's new history of Columbus. I went to Barnes & Noble Friday to buy copies but they're not available until May..Copies will be available at the event, but I would love to have been able to read them before meeting with the authors.

While I haven't had time to thoroughly research the timeline on the widening of Warm Springs Road, I do know it was being discussed in 1990.. perhaps even earlier. In 1990, the GA DOT was hell-bent on RAPING the Lakebottom area of Columbus by making a 5 lane "parallel" emergency route to relieve congestion on Wynnton Road, as a mayoral candidate, I opposed such, and brought up a better such emergency route.. widening Warm Springs Road and building another bridge across the Chattahoochee between the then existing 14th Street Bridge and the North Bypass one. The 13th Street "raping" was eventually nixed by Council, but the state did build the much need 13th Street Bridge, and plans were focused on widening Warm Springs Road (but without an additional bridge crossing). Some oldtimers have remembered talk of expanding Warm Springs Road going back into the late 1970s, but regardless, this is where we are in 2019 and it's still a long way from completion.

Three black churches in Louisiana under went the anguish of an arsonist in the past two weeks.. a 21 year old man was arrested for suspicion of arson... and it turns out his father is the son of St. Landry Parish Deputy. While I don't generally advocate sons or fathers pay for the crimes of each other, this seems to be a case of an apple not falling far from the tree. It's a somewhat "rush to judgment" I generally disdain, but the father not immediately resigning complicates this.. Of course, MSM-13 will melt down if a Louisiana State Attorney follows the example of the Shicago State Attorney and wipes his record clean like Foxx did about Jussie Smollett.

Went and got our 2020 license stickers yesterday... remember those 10 "reserved" spaces in the Macon Road Government Center parking garage that Councilor Thomas campaigned on to make them open spaces for citizens to use when there on business...then reversed her position once the election over? Well, yesterday about 10:00 AM 4 of spaces were empty, 4 were filled with cars with Alabama plates, one had a GA Washington County decal, and one was from Muscogee County..Why aren't all those jobs filled with Columbus/Muscogee County taxpayers?

Let's parse a couple of facts..With 32,000 students and 4,300 employees, that an employee/student ratio of 7.44-to-1. With 4,300 employees divvying up $254,500,000.00 dollars in salaries/benefits, that's over $59,000.00 per employee. In other words.. for every employee making $29,500.00, another one is making $88,500.00..

Hirsch, Kirk Pope and Paul Kilpatrick Jr. at Pope/McGlamry which is also the current firm of ex-mayor Tom-LYING-son's husband (and her previous firm) at a $865,000.00 direct LOSS for the taxpayers, and said entity is now paying $10,000.00 less in property taxes per year, the taxpayers are also on the hook for the rent the Chamber pays to Columbus Depot, LLC as well. Then I learned that the agent registered as the 'front" for Train Depot, LLC on the GA Corporations registry works for a competing law firm of Hall, Booth, Smith. Yesterday, I learned that our ex-mayor Tom-LYING-son not only joined Hall. Booth, Smith after leaving the City in January of this year., she went in as a PARTNER of the firm... How convenient.. not only did she sell to her old firm lawyers which her husband still works with, now she works for the firm that registered the Columbus, Depot, LLC.. To boot, the Columbus Depot LLC acquired it under regulations of a T.A.D. which was railroaded into Columbus existence by our former mayor Tom-LYING-son who is still in the middle of all this.. Where's Robert Mueller.. he must be looking for new work!

And it probably wasn't the first time she did this. Every youthful golfer has stood over many putts on the putting clock visualizing their putt going in for a birdie on the 18th to win the Masters at Augusta National...only unlike boys that age, Jennifer never knew that one day she would actually have an opportunity to win a golf tournament at Augusta National...until this year.

Another interesting comparison is with California is Vermont. Vermont is Number 1 on this list:

Having read that the River Walk was "complete", I went down to the RiverWalk Friday .. I guess you can say the River Walk is complete .. even though parts of it are blocked off from use. I went to see if I could find the Queen TT Lounge.. since it was built at a cost of $244,000.00, one would think there'd be signs.. even lit signs.. pointing it out as a tourist attraction, but, no, it's stashed away under the Pedestrian Bridge.. and as was speculated, closed.. Wow.. being intrigued at the dynamics of the Train Depot's current status as not only the home of Pope, McGlamry et al, and also the Chamber of Commerce is still there, too. My first intrigue was wondering where the Chamber was located now since the building was sold, then finding it was still located there. The second intrigue was learning that after the sale (and at loss of over $865,000.00 to the taxpayers), the property was reassigned an even lower Fair Market Value of $880,858.00 which meant the City (us) gets over $10,000.00 LESS in property tax revenues PER YEAR! Intrigued even further was that the new owner is Columbus Depot, LLC., and I first assumed that it was owned by some or all of the Pope, McGlamry law partners, but when I check the GA Corporate Registration, I found that the registered agent (lawyer fronting for owners) was a lawyer from another competing law firm, Hall, Booth,Smith. Does anyone reading this know who the principles are in Columbus Depot, LLC? I cannot imagine Pope, McGlamry lawyers using another law firm to shield themselves.. Hey Council.. will someone please answer this for me so I don't have to come down there in person?

As a whole, GA ranked 17th in Firearm deaths per 100,000 people.. If you parse that down separating suicides from homicides, GA had 653 gun homicides.. or 6.2 gun homicides per 100,000. On the other hand, Columbus had 34 (I believe) gun homicides in 2018, and with a dwindling population at about 190.000 (https://suburbanstats.org/population/georgia/how-many-people-live-in-columbus), Columbus d 17.9 gun homicides per 100,000.. somebody please NAIL these numbers/facts to the front page of Sanitor-wannabe Tom-LYING-son's campaign website. Columbus has almost 3-times as many gun homicides  per 100,000 as the rest of GA.
