Hmm. you'd think he wants us to be armed and ready.. On the other hand, Obamageddon artfully dodged "the bullet" by not mentioning that his plan for an executive order on gun control in the new year. Earlier this week Obama met with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a big proponent of gun control, to discuss strategies as he prepares to tighten access to firearms.

In December 18th's Columbus L-E (page B6), there was an ad.. required I might add or otherwise it would not have been published for public scrutiny, recapping the 2003 and 2009 SPLOSTs. What got my attention pretty fast was that projects, though not funded by anticipated sales tax revenues, are still ongoing, and on the books. Excuse me, but plans are plans, and if the MCSD cannot be accurate in planning project costs, those projects that can't be completed under the contract (via ballot) with the taxpayers need to be scrapped, and if any are still pertinent at the end of the revenue producing time frame, be included in any subsequent SPLOST proposals, not just dragged along and be funded by revenues intended for new projects.

Yesterday, I was leaving my neighborhood at 4:45 PM.. across the intersection was a MCSD bus waiting to turn south on River Road.. the bus was pretty full. My guess was that the bus was dropping off middle school students at the two apartment complexes in the 6000 area. You know.. middle schools end the day at 3:25.. Those kids had been in transit for a hour and 20 minutes... and were still not home..this is what busing has done .. it has eaten up the day for children to do their homework... let's scrap all but the necessary busing by getting back to neighborhood school placements.

Was in Publix Monday, and went to check out. The cashier at the lane I entered "warned" me that her current transaction was WIC and going to be lengthy, and try the next line. There were two people in front of me. The lady next to me finished about the same time as I did. She was dressed to the nines. She had two carts and was making multiple transactions. At the end of one, she made a call and mentioned the amount of transaction, then slid a card in and it was approved. Another call was made after more food was rung up, and again she made a call, a figure was mentioned the another card was swiped and was approved. Then another group of food was rung up, and she handed the cashier 3 $100.00 bills. At that time, my transaction finished and I took.my cart out to the parking lot to my truck. I opened the back hatch, and at that time I saw that woman, with two Public employees pushing two shopping carts of food to the car next to mine. ..and it was a fine car..a 2014/2015 Buick lacrosse sedan with chrome wheels. I think we do need a safety net for people who have hit a hard time in their lives, but seeing what I saw just turns my stomach when I hear Democrats promising more of the same to get votes.

There should be no after thoughts of such being justified. Also, the coach himself should have been charged with a racial hate crime..

The Supreme Court broke up Standard Oil in the 30's and AT&T in the 80's because no company should decide what is the competitive rate for "utilities" that have no competition. Even averaging rates for 11 states will mean most of the states will pay higher than justified rates while 1-to-4 of the states will benefit from the lower average.  Make sue you let the PSC know your feelings and know you vote.

The GAPOWCO "grinch" tried to steal Christmas here in Columbus...a.k.a. The Southern Whoville...GA last night. Tried... but failed.. T'was the Christmas Choir Night at First Baptist Church.. the event got started and 10 minutes in. darkness beset the whole block... a packed house of bell ringers, flautist, electronic masters,  andsingers..from 3-to-(politely I will not mention the top of the scale) were submerged in total dark.. no one despaired .. no one panicked.. cell phones emerged and flashlight apps lit the scene.. Our youth converged on our bell ringers and held lights so they could read the music, it was beautiful.. our 3-to-5 cherubs took to the risers without hesitation, and cell flashlights lit up their faces as they lit up the faces of parents, grandparents and other church family..a 5th grader stood tall and sang her heart out as her friends walked orderly through the darkness to join her. Then the GAPOWCO "grinch" had a heart moment and he lights sprung back to life. Whoville had nothing on First Baptist. as the spirit of Christmas was undaunted.

Yep.. but what is the criteria now used.. We just read about a 14 year old (8th or 9th grader) being robbed of his school books in Shirley Winston Park.. Somewhat "overlooked" was the fact that the 14 -year-old also was relieved of his $500.00 cellphone and $28.00 in cash.. There are no schools in that area that aren't Title 1 schools. How about checking with the Columbus Police Department and get the student's name and check whether he's getting free or reduced meals. Carrying a $500.00 phone (and I assume he's on his parent(s) bill) should trigger an investigation of whether the student should get taxpayer paid meals.

The whole premise of property assessment in Columbus is unfair. Granted, the actual property can be assessed for its basic physical value based on size and location, but houses and/or buildings should be valued purely on square footage. It should not matter how much "plus" value that an owner adds in as it doesn't necessarily add resale value. Case in point..my next door neighbors just bought their house this year, but have decided to move to Florida. They added a lot of value through improvements, but that doesn't mean the property is any more valuable that it was when they bought it.

To my way of thinking, a "refugee" is a person seeking temporary safety until it's safe to return home. That said, how do Syrians qualify as "refugees"? Think about it....none will ever be able to go back to Syria. The fake ones are here on "missions", so trying to return means they failed and will be put to death, and as for the ones that left for actual safety reasons, if they get to try to repatriate, the Syrian government will consider them "westernized" and will be put to death.

In response, I wrote: "The NAIA is small potatoes... the taxpayers will have to lose over $1,000,000.00 over the 2-year period to keep the natatorium open for a competition that might bring in a few thousand "tourist" dollars..

At the place I won my case against a speeding tictket, the CPD is back running a speed trap on Mobley Rd today. My wife saw a motorcycle cop aimed westward at motorist entering the 30 MPH zone from a 45 MPH stretch. It sems the CPD is more inclined to write revenue producing tickets than to simply put up better... clearer speed limit signs. After all, wouldn't it benefit Columbus more if people voluntarily kept the law?

Rewarding failing schools is paramount to awarding participation trophies to the last place teams as well as the champions.. and it's obvious there needs to be a shake-up in the last place teams administrative line-up. The only thing sadder than this is that three other local high schools, Carver, Spencer, and Kendrick, had lower test scores than the Early College Academy,, as Shakespeare wrote "what's a name"...
