A conservative's daily look at the news with an aspect of "Laugh-In Looks at the News" and "Johnny Carson's monologue" twisted in.

Online headline: "Lighting Company Allegedly Turned Down Job Applicant For Not Being Christian Enough" -- Now, this is a test for the ACLU to defend the Lighting Company on the basis that with all the assessment about the church & state remaining separated, then the state has an obligation not to pass judgement on a private business' policies on religion.

Online headline/story: "U.S. military insignia no longer allowed on Bibles * The publishing arm of the Southern Baptist Convention says its Bibles can no longer be emblazoned with the official insignia of branches of the U.S. military." -- My, oh, my... Even FDR is turning over in his grave. I have father's Army Air Corp issued WWII New Testament, complete gold imprinted insignia, and message from President Roosevelt encouraging all US soldiers to seek solace and guidance within the pages.

L-E headline: "AUBURN TRIPLE HOMICIDE * DEFENSE ATTORNEY WANTS CASE ‘OUT OF LEE COUNTY’ " -- I reckon so... and I'll bet the families of the victims wish Leonard had been out of Lee County at the time their sons were needlessly murdered.

L-E's "Thought for Today": “Education is a private matter between the person and the world of knowledge and experience, and has little to do with school or college.” — Lillian Smith, U.S. author (1897-1966). -- And never has this been truer than in today's educational environment. The dumbing down of the SATs; the politically correctness of not holding individuals responsible for their overcoming obstacles; taking over parental involvement for getting their children to-and-from school and taking over the children's dietary needs; teachers cheating 'for' the students on standardized tests, and social promotions and diplomas. Where... no, when will it stop?

I'm curious... if the GED program is so vital, so important, why are those seeking such nickled and dimed over a testing/graduation fee?

L-E letter: "I wanted to send a big thanks to Greg Countryman for trying to help my family with getting the air conditioner fixed. * I did apply for a grant to get the air and other things fixed, but the grant may take a while" -- First, this is obviously meant to paint Countryman in a good light prior to election time, but if he was acting in an official capacity, why was he fooling around with someone's AC on duty, and, also, where in the US or GA Constitution are taxpayers charged with providing AC's or grants for AC's?

L-E story: "WASHINGTON — Last summer, gays in the military dared not admit their sexual orientation. This summer, the Pentagon will salute them, marking June as gay pride month just as it has marked other celebrations honoring racial or ethnic groups. " -- Salute someone for being gay, racial or ethnic? This is just WRONG! Saluting someone because of their meritous service is always the correct thing to do, but it should be based only on the individual's accomplishments as a soldier doing his duty or more.

I'm real curious as to why Richard Hyatt's column today on politics doesn't even mention the Senate 15 race between Ed Harbison and Reginald Pugh. Harbison, of course, is the incumbent, but Pugh is the head of the local Urban League, husband of Councilor Evelyn Turner-Pugh, and she is also working on the staff of Congressman Sanford Bishop. Politics indeed to create strange bedfellows.

L-E headline: "OBAMA PROPOSES NEW AIR QUALITY STANDARDS" -- Ooops, my bad. Thought potUS Arpege was apologizing for the hate ads he's running on TV & radio.
---
There are always surprises in the "Real Estate Transactions" feature of the L-E, but I think this one takes the cake: "Wells Fargo Bank to Secretary of Veterans Affairs; 3633 McKee Road, Upatoi; $251,171; residential ". What is the Secretary of Veterans Affairs doing buying a residential property?
---
There's a story in the L-E today concerning a computer and safe being stolen from a Woodruff Farm Rd apartment on Sunday. Today is Friday. This is not news; it's "s-new-z".
