I keep reading about the influx of Town Hall type meetings in Columbus involving the community, law enforcement officials and the Mayor.. and sundry Councilors.. Since this is "campaign season", shouldn't the appropriate challengers at least be invited to attend and participate?

Oh! one of the issues on the May 24th Ballot will be about renewing the Transportation SPLOST. I'm voting "NO".. Not only do Columbus taxpayers ONLY get back 85-cents for each dollar we pay in the 1% tax, when the Mayor and Council were "selling" the $400,000,000.00 10-year SPLOST, one of their spiels was that the new 1% SPLOST wouldn't raise our overall sales tax burden if we let the Transportation SPLOST tax "die". yet now that the $400,000,000.00 SPLOST got approved, none of the Councilors nor the Mayor is saying anything about NOT renewing the Transportation SPLOST tax, so on July 1st, our sales taxes on everything (but fresh groceries and prescription medicine, and hotel rooms) will be 9%!.. making it a 12.5 percent tax increase!
