The Columbus Police department patrolling certain areas this weekend after a purge rumor of gang initiations would be taking place. News leader 9′s Amaya Graham spoke to former gang members about the current gang violence and how they can play a role in bringing people together. * Jerome Lawson a former gang member who now works with an organization call Cure Violence says the gangs these days are not what they use to be. Lawson says gangs were in certain areas to protect the community but that is no longer the case." -- Wait a minute! Even if the purported purpose of early gangs was for neighborhood safety, the very nature of vigilantism eventually leads to mob rule over the neighborhood people the gang felt it was formed to protect.

WTVM-TV9 story: "COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A source close to WTVM gave us an assessment conducted on the Columbus Police Department 10 years ago. At that time the department was under the leadership of Chief Rickey Boren and the city under the leadership of Mayor Teresa Tomlinson. * The 2013 assessment done by a company called Management Partners, listed 23 recommendations for improvement for the department in comparison to the Jensen Hughes assessment with current police chief Freddie Blackmon that lists 70 recommendations for the department. * On the issue of police retention, in 2012 the department had 197 officers on the force. They were budgeted for 488 officers. compare that to the current assessment with Jensen Hughes, it states quote, retention at the CPD has been significant for several years, not just during the current administration. the report goes on to say between 2016 and 2020, 241 officers resigned from the department." -- Hmmm... now you see why former Mayor TT Tom-LYING-son has been so quiet... so vacant ... in discussions... She was in control of the Public Safety LOST funds during its first 8 years of existence, and had to be derelict in responding to the wishes of Columbus voters to be safer...Of course she did get a $244,000.00 bathroom built on the Riverwalk, and spent untold thousands of dollars on research of a high... well, somewhat high-speed rail system to the Atlanta Airport that's never borne fruit... Oh! current Mayor Henderson was on the scene all that time as well..
