McClatchy news story: "On Thursday, the California High-Speed Rail Authority approved the terms and conditions that bidders will be expected to meet in designing and building a 29-mile segment of the line from east of Madera to the south end of Fresno, a stretch that is expected to cost about $1.5 billion" -- 29 miles for $1.5 BILLION! That's nearly $52 Million per mile to go from nowhere-to-nowhere-and-back in at 220 MPH.
