There's another list out there.. a list of "The 9 worst-run cities in the US" * Chattanooga, Flint, Oakland, Hartford, Cleveland, San Francisco, New York City, Detroit, and Washington, D.C. * As more Americans move to metropolitan areas, cities are getting larger. In an oligarchy leadership, top level employees are telling lower level employees that their First Amendment Rights have been taken away from them because of top level's political expediency.. It's particularly insulting that the "oligarchy" is dissing Columbus' Josh McKoon in his hometown, and that Columbus Regional gets guaranteed tax revenue from the citizens.

You know, we need a Republican Secretary of State just to protect voter registration procedures and removal of fraudulent voting lists, and I will vote for one, but let's face it, none of the candidates are more qualified than Columbus' Josh McKoon, and Josh McKoon could become the first statewide officer ever elected from Columbus in our voting lifetime. I hate to see pictures of DUI convicts in the L-E, but it does have a purpose.. it alerts people of whom they are dealing with if they want to borrow/use your car (or pull into the drive-thru window of a liquor store).. but what I hate even worse is not seeing what the court did about stripping them of their vehicles and driving rights. You know, when I see the L-E stories on public education issue here in the Columbus area, I wish the L-E would report that the Phenix City School System shows better results than the MCSD and at expenditures per student... the MCSD spends $11,021 while the Phenix City Schools spend $8,644... and get bet ratings.. don't let the graduation rates fool you.. a diploma does not guarantee basic knowledge to take to college or to life.

Some attorney from Savannah petitioned a judge to change the date of a January 2, 2018 hearing because he had tickets/accommodations at the Rose Bowl. The judge (also a UGA Alum) granted it on the basis that since the attorney says GA cannot win unless he's in attendance, that if GA loses, the attorney must be in his courtroom on January 3rd to explain why GA lost.. A "tradition" in our family is my bride and her sister take our daughters  on a 2-day overnight shopping trip to Atlanta. My granddaughter will be joining them shopping this year, too. As she was being driven out of our driveway, I mentioned how she would be missed,, and that I would be all alone left here in Columbus. Without hesitation, she thrust "blue bear", her ever present sleeping partner into my hands, and told me to keep "bear" with me so I woudn't be alone. Whatta a little wonder girl...  she put what she perceived as my needs over her own.. my heart still beats loudly for her sacrifice... on Christmas Day..

I've been thinking about the hysteric opposition to the Freedom of Religion Bill that Josh McKoon champions. In fact, no one should be in opposition to the bill..it basically just adds another level of protection for our US Constitutional rights. The rub is that no one is obligated to exercise such rights in conducting their businesses unless they desire to do so. The law would basically protect each of us from the vitriol of the few, fueled by a vendetta,  who want to create personal gain for themselves.

It's been more than a month since I inquired to the location the MCSD is planning to build the wrestling/cheerleading practice facilkity on the Columbus High campus, and even though the M CSD already owns the property, it will not discuss the probable spot (nor options) of where it will go.. I think I upset the MCSD's apple cart when I mentioned that the only space I see on the campus for it involves the current parking lot... you know, the one that wasn't adequate enough in size so the MCSD paid $935,000.00 to construct another space for 50 or or so cars.  Maybe it;s time for the MCSB to DEMAND knowledge of the location... and maybe suggest it be scrapped, and the wrestling and cheerleaders just continue their practices where it's been successfully done since mid-1950s.

Soapbox Moment/Random Thought: The release of Mayor Tomlinson's "committee" recommendation seems somewhat tainted.. Last January, the Government Center committee of 23 was named, yet when the results were recently released, there are now 27 members, and Tomlinson barely got a majority to support her preferred option of a complete rebuild.. and at $126,000,000.00. Somehow, I don't recall any stories increasing the size of the committee, but it looks like without the 4 "extra" voters, there must not have been a chance Tomlinson's preferred option would have been the majority one. Who are the additional 4 members and their connection with the mayor (15 of the original 23 had personal connections with her)? Secondly, how is the proposed new Government Center going to be maintained? We've already seen the lack of a maintenance plan for all the projects Tomlinson has initiated during her terms in office, and the number one reason she promotes a new building is because the old one has not been maintained properly.

It's funny... in a sad way.. when all-of-a-sudden, a FB "friend" ends the relationship because of a difference in political views. Sad because not discussing the differences in an intelligent manner is why people cannot come to common grounds.. and come up with solutions rather than "kick the can down the street". I know that when I express my opinion.. or challenge another's, that I have references to point to that support my views, and opposite view people will not continue conversations when they have nothing to refute mine or support theirs.
