I'm glad to know our Tax Assessor's Office has 25 employees, but knowing this disturbs me more when I find blatant errors in how a home's vale is assessed. One in particular belongs to a local retired banker.. He bought a previously assessed $670,000.00 home for $725,000.00 yet the on the tax database, his home is assessed  for "only" $557,417.00.. or another home where the person listed as "owner" lives in Henry County with his new wife, while his ex lives in the old house that still has a H1 exemption status

I am sure many will recall that some years ago, the 13th Street viaduct was widened from four lanes to six lanes. This was a major undertaking at considerable expense as the bridge had to be widened. 13th Street is a heavily travelled road and closing two lanes to cars and trucks in order to provide a pedestrian space was an utterly absurd idea, one that I hope has been relegated to the dust bin.

 

On a sad note, the Planning Department of the Columbus Consolidated government has effectively ruined Linwood Boulevard between 10th Avenue and 5th Avenue. Traffic lanes have been narrowed significantly and a wide pedestrian walk has been created for the hundreds of people expected to walk down Linwood Boulevard. It looks like a barren, tasteless space created by a uninspired bureaucrat. Only in Columbus!"

 

-- I'm glad to see the orange cones on 13th gone.. and hope it means that we will not be subjected to Tom-LYING-son's whims again.. I was in the area 3 times during the PM rush hours during the "2-week test period, and what I remember was clogged, standstill traffic... and no bicycles using the lanes blocked off from cars. What's with pedestrians these days..It doesn't matter whether you're driving through a parking lot or down a street, pedestrians just seem to feel it's "OK" to just step out into traffic lanes without looking. Even if a car has to hit the brakes to stop within a foot or two of the path they have picked out. It's like they want to get hit. Maybe they feel getting hit will be as good or better than hitting the lottery. I don't know, but I still look both ways before stepping off the curb, and will teach my grandchildren to do the same.

Random thought: Back in January, I dumped my 14 year relationship with Wow (f.k.a. Knology) and took Spectrum up on it's offer of a "no contract" 3 year guarantee price package.. Two months later, Spectrum took "The Golf Channel" off the package I signed up with, and said I'd have to pay an additional $12.00 to get their "Sports Package". I refuse to be suckered in.. I lose some "Golf" time, but the "Majors" carry the final rounds so no big loss.. Now, as I think more about it, contract or not, Spectrum promised us 3 years of a set price for a set "bundle". I believe there's a "Class Action Suit" just waiting for a lawyer with time on their hands and there are a bunch of willing  clients.

Update,, the girl, now age 6, was just 5 years old when she qualified to compete in the bee in March, was reportedly disqualified from participating in the finals due to her performance on a written test... Good grief, I ran across some "letters" a I wrote to my mother who was in a TB hospital for two years in the early 50s, and I was advanced, but I can hardly dream of anything I wrote as being advanced enough to be entered into a written performance test. Yesterday morning our CPD staged a trap on Bradley Park Drive to pinpoint driving-to-work drivers for "distracted driving". The set up between the J R Allen Parkway ramps and Starbucks/Chick-fil-A. Wrote 96 tickets at about $200.00 a pop.. I'm sure the City can use the $19,000+ dollars, but is Columbus any safer from drivers texting/pre-ordering from cellphone apps? Maybe confiscating the phones "for evidence" would be safer for all than just fining them.. Say having a one-week without a cellphone "sentence" for the first offense and 1 month for a second one might have a more sobering effect.. more so than $200.00 fine.

 

The incident also made the L-E editorial page: "As reported by senior writer Chuck Williams, Columbus Police issued almost 100 citations Thursday morning in the Bradley Park area alone.
