There was a report on the number of fatalities in America from "mass shootings".. looks like in the last 18 years, 409 people have been killed. Of course, Mayor Rahm Emanuel would celebrate that as a blessing. Just in this year, so far, 411 people in Chicago have died from shootings.

 A South African  appeals court has overturned Oscar Pissed-al-over-us's wrist-slap manslaughter conviction and turned it into a murder ... which it was..... Now the re-sentencing phase.. he could get leniency because it was his first offense...HUH? Excuse me, but a "first offense" that's a murder is not the same as vandalism  as a teen...

U of Miami has scored a coupe.. it has snapped up Mark Richt.. while some of the expectations of a fast turn-around for Miami will not happen, the players that play for Richt will be of a more reputable nature when they graduate.

I'm sick of Mayor TomLYONGson's greedy and misdirected leadership... She will not balance a budget as long as she can dip into the fund balance, but now that it has dropped below the 60 day mark, our bond rating has weakened. This has happened just as she has announced support for a bond issue for the Columbus Water Works which will raise our rates again.

Speaking of the Columbus Water Works.. Mayor TomLYINGson and the other board members keep telling us that our rates are competitive or lower that other "comparable" cities. You know, since the Columbus Water Works is owned by the city, why are the powers that be more interested in milking as much money from the taxpayers as they can, rather than giving us the lowest rates they can do. It would be nice to point that out to prospective home owners and businesses interested in moving here.

Another thing.. the proposed bond issue by the Columbus Water Works board is to pay for expansion.. excuse me,, but that should be paid for by the developers.. it;s the developers that will benefit most from their land becoming more valuable from having water and sewage access.

Household garbage and recycling from Tuesday’s and Friday’s routes will be picked up on Tuesday. * Because of the heavy holiday loads for Christmas and New Year, if the city is unable to collect all trash and recycling on the scheduled Monday or Tuesday, workers will complete pick up on Wednesday." -- Excuse me.. why are there still Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday garbage pick ups? If the garbage could be picked up at every residence twice week before stopping the twice-a-week pickups, why are all the residences now taking two days to service since we had one of our pick-up days taken away?  Saving fuel and labor are basically the only ways to cut costs like Mayor TomLYINGson said she wanted, but in effect, our fuel and labor costs haven't been cut. We're basically just paying twice as much for one pick up.

L-E editorial comment headline: "Westville will make its move in coming year" -- Westville coming to Columbus will be a benefit, and Council .. Mayor included, is to be congratulated for recognizing this.. Now, that said, let's make sure that other than the "gifT' of the land, that no other local tax dollars are involved.. while we are looking at it, let's re-evaluate using tax dollars to supplement the Civil War Museum and the Columbus Museum.. in fact any museum in Columbus. Those should be kept open by the interest of visitors/donors and efficiency of staff employed to run them.

The local high school rifle season just opened.. It's nice to know that our schools are at least teaching one thing that will help them after they graduate.. On a sad note, one of Mescon's last "gifts" before he left CSU was to dismantle the CSU Rifle Team.. guess he didn't want CSU students actually learning about how to control a gun.
