But the department just got the money to start the process of getting three new pools. * “The SPLOST was voted on in November of 2021, and it was passed, which was fabulous; however the money didn’t start coming into the city until April of this year, so there has been no money available to make those repairs or renovations,” says Browder." -- Wait a minute.. the RIGHT question to be asking is "WHY those pools haven't been fixed for the past 4+ years!" The $48 Million "price tag" being quoted now is the escalated number caused by recent inflation.. particularly in the construction industry.. versus what it would have cost 5 -to-7 years ago to fix/maintain these facilities as problems appeared... Also.. there WAS money allocated from a previous SPLOST to fix/build outdoor pools, but that Council redirected the taxpayer approved funds to build the AquaCenter which is another financial money pit in its own way...

Hey.. why doesn't Council just plug up the drains/leaks in the Skateboard Park near the Civic Center and make that another swimming pool? It sure would b-get more use by our citizens...

Has the "$48 Million Dollar" estimate sunk in yet? That's about 25% of the cost projected to demolish/reconstruct a new government center ($200,000,000.00 projected), yet has none of the construction costs associated with building a multi-floored building with all the electronic set-ups nor the drainage/sewage disposal issues of a multi-floored office building..

Hey... Columbus, GA Council! Since you're in a "let's raise all the taxes we can get away with" mood, what are you doing about the property at 2551 Wynnton Rd? This was the property that tried to created a multi-family family compound in a residential area using T.A.D. funding... that got curtailed by neighborhood revolt... Well, I notice that property still has an old FMV (Fair Market Value) assessment of $320,890.00 for the prime 5.79 ACRES. Did you not read the fairly recent Historic Columbus Foundation Newsletter about that property, and how the HFC made a bonafide offer of $1,200,000.00 and their offer was REJECTED? I understand that property "not for sale" shouldn't be taxed at a politically motivated assessment value, but when a property has been conditionally sold/ or requested a zoning change, the rules change a bit, but when a public offer is made for "property on the market".. and is rejected, then a solid new taxable value has been established.
