e headline: "Halloween 2011: Obama, Michelle Hand Out Candy To White House Trick-Or-Treaters" -- Oh, Halloween's 'OK', but he doesn't want to observe the "National Day of Prayer". Guess it's a DIM&DUMBERat thing (give-away programs versus personal responsibility and sacrifice), Christians wouldn't understand.
---
Speaking of Halloween, Broadway in Columbus was teeming with hobgoblins late yesterday afternoon. They were everywhere, thicker than gnats in South GA. For the most part, it was wonderful. There was one situation that did bother me a bit. That was the Metro Boys&Girls Clubs having a 'station' giving away candy and pencils and such. It bothers me that publicly funded program would be spending/giving away its resources to non-program needs.

Online story: "Michael Moore has a message for Republicans: just because he's wealthy doesn't mean he can't stand with those angry with America's economic system." -- Hypocrite! Only the malcontents "Occupying" actually go to see his movies, and his presence is a greedy attempt at making a movie about them that they will pay money to go see.
---
The Program to End Homelessness....Oh, for about $200,000.00, we can hire an Executive Director and maybe an Executive Assistant. Look the program is already working. There's two people who will no longer be homeless.... until the money runs out, or Council puts them on the city payroll.

L-E headline/story: "Columbus State University recruiting heavily outside area, raising standards * It also appears to be the right decision for Columbus State University, which actively is recruiting more academically sound, greater Atlanta-area students. As the university’s fall enrollment holds steady at just above 8,300 students, about 60 percent of this year’s freshman applicants hail from areas covered by the Atlanta television market" -- Raising standards? After looking at the posted current standards, and after following the current cheating scandal in Atlanta, it really makes you wonder about how bad our local education is. Besides, if CSU was interested in raising standards, it would have kept Frank Brown from retiring, not brought in Mescon.
---
Another disturbing fact about CSU is that only 40% of the current students are from Muscogee County (and this years number is lower than last years), and if you combine the local area counties, barely half the students are from the area.
---
Liberal mantra L-E "soundoff": "Why is it that my Republican Party is so keen on carrying guns in virtually all public places and so keen on restricting voter registrations?" -- Liberals are so anal retentive. Guns and voting are both US Constitutionally endowed and protected. Our forefathers were so concerned about voting that they laid out specific requirements then gave every American unfettered rights to own a gun to protect those voting requirements.

L-E ad: "When Saturday starts with the sniffles . . . come to Columbus Regional Urgent Care Center," -- For years, hospitals have complained that people with sniffles clog up their urgent/emergency rooms, and now they are advertising for new clients? Guess MedicAid has a new program to pay for Tylenol at the $10.00 per tablet that regular hospitals charge.
---
Another L-E ad: "When You Want The Absolute Best For Your Pet. Pet Cremation Services..... -- Personally, I think being alive and breathing is best, but then who knew "I could have had a Crem-8!"
---
I thought the UGA "combat" uniforms that they wore for the first game were the ugliest things I'd ever seen, but Kentucky's wins hands down. Instead of "Go Big Blue", they should be chanting "go ig Bruise".
---
From a fellow BCer: "There is finally conclusive evidence that Osama bin Laden and Muammar Gaddafi are dead. Yesterday, they both registered to vote in Chicago.
---
Figures in today's L-E compare the growth of Columbus from 2000 and 2010 per the Census. In 2000, Columbus had 186,292 people, and in 2010, Columbus is listed as having 189,885. How come Council used the figure of about 181,000 as its base figure to compute new District lines?
