Online headline: "Proof of Abominable Snowman Found?" -- Ooops, my bad. Thought maybe Algore's everyday "secret identity" had been unmasked.

Students, actually their parents, do have legitimate complaints about the high cost of students living on campus at a University System college here in Georgia.

Example: One of my daughters shares an apartment style setup at a Georgia University, and the semester cost is about $3,600.00. That doesn't seem as ominous at first glance, but when you consider that semesters are only about 4 months, so it comes to a rent of $900.00 a month times 4 people for a rather cramped 4 single-bed bedrooms, 2 shared bathrooms, and a common living room & kitchenette. When you consider 2 semesters (about 8 months) are a school year, that minescule apartment for 4 draws in over $28,000.00 per 8 months. If it is used during the summer semester, then the revenue for such a small space can bring in over $43,000.00 in revenue.

Inversely, another daughter attends another Georgia University but lives year round in an off campus 1-bedroom apartment, and her rent is less than $500.00 a month which rounds out at about $6,000.00 annually. Even with another $125.00 a month for utility costs, one daughter has housing costs of about $7,500.00 annually, but the one living on campus has about same cost for only 8 months.

If you annualize the on campus apartment (like if she goes to summer school) then the cost for 12 months is close to $11,000 for her portion of a 4 person apartment. There is no competitive option when students are required to live in campus housing because there is little or no private sector living options. No wonder the GA Universities are requiring the incoming student to live in campus housing...

When I first heard of the Economic Development Administration grant of $2 Million for a Harry Reid Research Center in Nevada, I nodded my head and thought, 'hmmm, maybe there is a way to find evidence to impeach Harry Reid'. Then I researched the Economic Development Administration, and found it is basically a giant "earmark factory" that Congresspersons fund $300 BILLION annually to distribute basically anonymous earmarks with out actually having their names attached to any legislation. There's $300 Billion, about 1/5th of the $1.5 Trillion the Congressional Super Committee has to cut.

Wow! Two Americans just won the Nobel Prize for Economics. Do you know what that means? It means we have 2 world class economists here in America, and potUS O'Blather chose Tim Geithner to be his Economic Tsar!

The St Louis Cardinals are in the National League Championship Series. Don't you think Colby Rasmus wishes his Dad took less interest in his career? Don't you think Edwin Jackson should send Tony Rasmus a big fruit basket?

Looks like the contract the City has with the Mayor's old law firm does have some caveats even though the law firm representative 'says' his firm will not collect those hourly fees. How many contracts, say like when you buy a used car, and the salesman 'says' his company will 'fix things' on a no-warranty vehicle once you've signed the contract, are honored by what is said versus what is written in the contract?

Why are some Councilors trying to maintain the Expedia case exists even though Expedia has given the City a $55,000.00 check by saying that Expedia hasn't confirmed that the $55,000.00 check was for the taxes owed? Just exactly what do said Councilors think Expedia gave them that check..for unpaid parking fees?

L-E headline: "Quarry firm wants to build conveyor * Council to decide if Vulcam Materials Co. can build system over Fortson Road" -- Hmmm, bet the first sign that goes up will be a "We are not responsible for broken windshields".

How can the City Attorney claim that "the taxpayer is on the hook for nothing." in the Expedia case? We taxpayers have been denied revenues from taxes associated with hotel occupancy, as well as the roll-over effect of monies visitors' expenditures spread about Columbus.
