Soapbox Moment: Online story: "The Obama administration is planning to issue a sweeping decree telling every public school district in the country to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms that match their gender identity, the New York Times reported on Thursday." -- Good grief.. it's probably the same everywhere, but since I have the MCSD's 2016-17 "Budget Highlights" in my hand, I'm going to use its figures.

The overall budget calls for $274,660,024.00.. that includes $3,282,928.00 in federal funds.. To begin with, those federal funds are attached to strings, and do not pay all the costs for the programs associated with them, so eliminating those programs would actually provide more money available for the classrooms.

Now, ZERO-bama wants to use that "puppet" leverage to impose his will on all of our children. Let's face it, the federal funds we get are but .01 percent of our budget which is even less than the possible percentage of children who's parents would allow their children to use the wrong bathrooms. We can do without ANY federal funding! ASK each of the incumbents if they are "FOR" selling their souls any longer for federal "crumbs"? If they are, get rid of them.

My "ugly uniform" observation is generally something I highlight during football season, but yesterday, one pro golfer's "uniform" could not go by without comment. Ricky Fowler's shoes were absolutely hideous.. and they probably cause Ricky to drop a few shots during his round.. I mean.. how could you concentrate on hitting a golf ball solidly when every time you looked down, you had one shoe with  neon yellow "vamp"*, and another with a neon pink "vamp"*.  * - "vamp" is an industry term for the front uppers of a shoe.

This is on a local level issue: Early voting for the May 24th elections are "on".. Since GA is an 'open primary" state, you can get either a Republican or Democrat ballot and both contain the non-partisan elections as well. There are only 2 elections on the Republican ballot that really affect Columbus.. US Senate for which I want  a "None of the Above" option, and the replacement race for Westmoreland in the 3rd Congressional District. While I do support Mike Crane in that race (and hope those who get the Republican ballot vote for Crane), I find it more imperative to take a Democratic Party ballot for this election.. I plan to vote for the lesser evils in the US Senate and State Rep for District 115 (basically a coin flip), but I do want to have a say in local City wide elections that will be decided on May 24th as there are no Republican candidates in the November General Election. WE can make a difference by voting for Judge Steven D. Smith for Municipal Court judge, for Sylvia Hudson in the Municipal Court Clerk's race, for Bernard Spicer for Marshal, and Linda Pierce in the Clerk of Superior Court race. .
