From the "how come it's not a goose/gander thing" department -- A local crime scene involving a chase that knocked out a fire hydrant showed an indeterminate amount of water being lost. You know, when I moved into my current home here in Columbus, the Columbus Water Works would not change over the meter until I installed ANOTHER cut off valve between the Water Works meter and my house . I didn't matter to the CWW that I had already installed cut-off valves in the crawl space and in the living space... and owned a "water key" so I could cut off water AT the meter. On top of that, the outside meter didn't include an access box so it could be easily found in an emergency, and I cannot tell you exactly where I would have to dig to find it in an emergency, so, basically, all I have is two "pipe cuts" that could fail. Now, back to the water issue at the crime scene.. why didn't the CWW install a "cut off valve" to the hydrant so a police officer could shut down the loss of water?
Now, sadly, from the above story, a teen died... from a bullet exchange in which one hit the driver inn he head.. it happened over 3 years ago and just now went to court.. all the car passengers were 16 and younger, and all the guns were stolen prior to the incident..none of the survivors are going to jail.. all were plead out to lesser crimes and given probation..the prosecutor said it was because the mother of the dead child wanted it this way.. excuse me, but does society WANT these "boys" .. now older teens, back on the street with no lesson learned. Does society DESERVE this? Not in my book.
