A casualty of potUS O'Blather could be "Honest Abe" Lincoln..... Being a fellow Illinois politician, potUS O'Blather could demand that Illinois change it's state nickname to "Land of O'Blather". Think not? When you get down to it, Illinois is full of a lot more blather than honesty.

Can you believe that there are actually dog plastic surgeons? Who would put their pets through vanity surgery when there are children with cleft palates going unattended?

There's a fabulous video clip on Fox where a college student polls another student about redistribution of wealth and the student highly identifies with redistribution of wealth, but, when the student is asked if he was willing to give some of his 4.0 GPA to some other students struggling to get a 2.0, the student adamantly decries the thought because he has worked hard for what he's got. Liberalism is not dead, and it looks like another future liberal politician has been bred.

A fellow BCer (and avid Dawg) sent me pictures of the new UGA uniforms. If UGA needed to change something drastic, it would be better off changing its recruiting standards for player background checks...either that, or a new head coach.

From the "now we know'' department - Famous quote: "Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things." - Winston Churchill " -- I had wondered what would motivate potUS O'Blather to send back to England its gift of a bust of Sir Winston Churchill. but why would he want a constant reminder of his weaknesses staring him in the face daily?

Ben Bananke is taking on the responsibility of rekindling the current recession. Deciding not to raise interests rates will eventually kill much of the US cash savings. How? By holding interests rate down artificially; those with cash have no place for it to grow and be a hedge against further inflation without exposing their savings to the whims of a roller coaster stock market or the gold market. Any political restrengthening of our economy will deflate the gold and run-to-stocks.

Everybody! Call, e-mail Mike Owen to stop the next time he sees a CWW or CCG work crew of 6 or 7 standing around looking at a hole in the ground, and ask each one what is his specific work reason for being there looking at a hole in the ground dug by the 1 worker working.

From a L-E column: "Sure, poverty is one reason why an alarming number of Muscogee County schools failed to make adequate yearly progress in last month’s preliminary report. * But it’s not a good enough reason." -- Nor is it the primary reason! A good educational system goal, as well as each teacher's goal, should be to motivate and instill in each student the esteem of learning for oneself. Educational focus, and that includes the MCSD, seems to focus on excuses and sympathy by believing so many students are 'victims' rather than opportunities. Students are encouraged to sign up for free/discounted meals (that are hardly healthy); students are bused away from their neighborhoods and the ability of their parents to participate with their schools and teachers; students are lured into summer feeding programs that remove them from the care and responsibility of their parents; students are told and reminded that others have more going for them; students are 'given' grades (or have their grades enhanced by teachers) so they won't fall behind grade wise (until the student's frustration at not knowing how to learn or study catches them unprepared to handle secondary school work so they drop out); students are given HOPE Scholarship GPA's but can only do remedial classes when they do get to college (resulting in worse esteem than before). Yes, there is poverty, there will always be poverty, but there always has been and will be a way for those growing up in poverty to break the pattern, and that is for the schools system to encourage students by giving them a good educational environment that lets the students revel in their abilities to overcome all handicaps.

From L-E story: "Columbus Council has to determine whether the funding can come from a 1 percent Local Option Sales Tax that voters approved in 2008. Seventy percent of the revenue from that tax is devoted to public safety. * “With the LOST proceeds, there have been questions by some councilors as to whether these types of costs are those that should be covered by the LOST funds, or whether LOST funds are only for narrowly defined items,” Tomlinson added" -- Why is there concern over what fits the budget definition of a qualifying safety expenditure when Council has already decided parks and rec programs are for public safety?

Looks like Judge Pullen is getting the same treatment as Judge Turner... focusing on the negative aspect of everything, and losing all the good things in the dirt the L-E is stirring up. I do believe the Judge should not have accepted accolades for the directing of the money, but then again, our politicians in Congress try to take personal credit for giving grants with money taken from our pockets.

One thing that I have to think about is why is there so much money left over from not being able to contact the people who were listed as part of the law suit? Is it because the 'winners' no longer were interested in collecting their winnings, or did that many die with no next of kin still alive? Or could it be simply that ACORN was in charge of signing up people for the claim?

L-E headline: "Don’t let the brain-eating amoeba get to you - Tim Chitwood" -- Ooops, too late for Tim.

Hospitals and Doctors should have to post the discount given insurance companies when citing a procedural price. Self pay patients, and a lot of insured patients would benefit.
