Good morning! A good morning indeed! Very proud to report one of our BCers has returned safely from Iraq. BTW, I'm his proud and grateful uncle.

Online headline: "U.S. Credit Rating Has 1 In 3 Chance Of Future Downgrade, Says Standard & Poor's Official " -- Like salt into a wound. when it rains, it "poors". What's sad is that POTUS Bush and potUS O'Blather could have stopped most of the damage with a few vetos. Hey, isn't that why one man was given the equality of both Houses of Congress?
---
Online headline: "Geithner: Standard & Poor's Showed 'Terrible Judgment' " -- Huh? Isn't this a little like a caldron calling a pot black...or in Geithner's case, maybe he's smoking pot. Maybe "Hail to the Chief" should be retired from White House use, and be replaced with "The Man in the Mirror"
---
Of course, if Geithner wants to 'spin' the S&P story, he should inject how slow the S&P was in downgrading the infamous 'mortgage investment bundles'...ooops, that won't work either, cause he should have 'manned up ' about that himself.
---
L-E story: "The Muscogee County School District has been preparing for as many as 4,000 students but reported Thursday there are currently only 54 registered students it can directly connect to BRAC. * “We have a model that says we’re going to have about 4,000 students,” (Dr. Susan) Andrews said, but added, “that model could be wrong.” -- "that model could be wrong"? It's beginning to look like "that model" was conjured up by the CRCT staff.
---
Any body had any thoughts about the Indiana Schhool District that was starting to charge a fee to ride the schools buses? It's an idea that merits local discussion as it is optional for most parents.
---
Does any one know how to contact Ricky Fowler while he's on the tour schedule? Some one needs desperately to bring up his choice of wardrobe. Yesterday he wore an orange (and fluorescent, at that) cap, shirt, and pants. Couldn't figure out why unless he had to leave from the course to attend a Clemson tailgate party, or to pick up trash along some stretch of highway.
---
This quote should be carved into the desk of every sitting Congressional member, and every presidential appointee: "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."
---
L-E story: "WASHINGTON — Timothy Geithner has told President Barack Obama that he will remain on the job as Treasury secretary. * Geithner is the only remaining top official on Obama’s original economics team." -- There are only three reasons Geithner stays: 1 - Geithner has made such a mess that he wants no one to come in and reveal any evidence of how bad he really has been, 2 - potUS O'Blather considers that if he replaced Geithner, Geithner would be out on the speaking tour as a loose cannon, and 3 - potUS O'Blather fears Fox News would hire Geithner and put him on Sean Hannity's "All-American Panel".
---
L-E headline: "Congress has a shot at passing jobs-creating bills" -- What the American public really wants is for Congress to just do its job...control spending and cut the waste of duplicate government programs. Any job 'created' that is actually a 'government job' will exacerbate the problems as it will continue to put a strain, no drain, on the private sector's wallets. The best Congress can do is get off the track.
---
L-E headline: "45,000 Verizon workers strike" -- You have to wonder if they 'twitter-in" sick? On the other hand, who was around the offices to get the messages?
---
If Hillary Clinton makes a run in the DUMB&DUMBERat presidential primaries, wonder if she'll adopt a version of her husband's campaign slogan, "Hey, Stupid, it's your economy"?
---
L-E headline/story: "Duncan: States to get school testing waivers * Relief from some requirements of No Child Left Behind * Education Secretary Arne Duncan says he will announce a new waiver system today to give schools a break." -- Typical D&D response to solving a problem... if you can't pass a test, just eliminate it so no one will know you don't know how to solve it.
---
After looking at the pictures published in the L-E of second time DUI offenders, you would think the offenders would understand that excessive drinking does not make them prettier or handsomer as they must think.
---
From the L-E's "Blog post of the day": “Tickets are now available for The Loft’s second annual Brew-fest. The beer-tasting festival is set for 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. More than 100 craft brews will be available to taste.” -- "More than 100 craft brews will be available to taste"? Hopefully, there will be a breathalyzer testing station at every street leading out of the Broadway area in place by 4:45.
---
From the"how many ways can the government waste taxes dollars" department - L-E story: "MOBILE, Ala. — A new study being conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service aims to determine how many birds may have died during the Gulf oil spill last year. * Federal officials have dropped about 250 real carcasses and 65 dummy carcasses in the water since July 16 along the Gulf between Louisiana and Panama City, Fla. * The project is costing about $1 million. " -- 315 dead/fake 'carcasses'... hmmm that's about $3200.00 each. That would buy a lot of KFC dead bird carcasses for a lot of hungry people.
---
L-E story: "ATLANTA — Georgia’s not-for-profit hospitals receive millions of dollars each year in tax breaks, but a newspaper investigation found that not all of those institutions provide as much charity as their for-profit counterparts. " -- This is a "news story"? Show me where any hospital in Columbus has been charitable to anything but itself. Even indigent care is charged to the taxpayers in some form or another (either through government programs or padding the bills of responsible users.
---
L-E headline/story: "Scott wins first World Golf title * He celebrated with a caddie who has won quite a few more. * Steve Williams, fired last month by Tiger Woods after a 12-year partnership," -- Heh, heh, heh... like previously suggested, 'poor Tiger' needs to look at himself when pointing the finger of blame at his situation. Speaking of pointing the finger of blame, potUS O'Blather, it's good advice for you, too.
