There is a tragic online story of 4 New Jersey HS football players killed in an accident as they headed to a team gathering. There were 8 kids, kids because none were 18, in a SUV driven by a 17 year old. $ did survive. I'm not familiar with NJ law, but I am thankful that GA has a law allowing no more than 3 passengers in a vehicle driven by someone under 18. We can only speculate the distraction of 7 passengers in a vehicle driven by a 17 year old traveling in a high speed caravan of fellow teammates celebrating the last practice of summer. God be with them all.

Poverty is not the main issue in the education problem. A school (and political) system that promotes opportunities and possibilities and the self-esteem won from hard work instead of promoting excuses would go a long way (and much faster) to reversing the trend. Teaching that "you can" rather than "you can't" is a great attitude changer.

Well, potUS O'Blather is avoiding Washington. First a bus tour on Canadian economy boosting buses, and now encamped on exclusive Martha's Vineyard enriching the pockets of the wealthy. He feels better being away from Washington. Is it a coincidence that I, too, feel as well as think the nation is better off when he's not in Washington?

Charlie Rangel, D&D NY, was on Fox yesterday, and said it's not fair to expect spending levels to return to the levels Clinton or Bush spent. Excuse me...but it's the House where he, unfortunately, still sits, that spends the money. Wish the Fox guy had asked if Rangel would support a balanced budget or line item veto amendment.
