"Senate Races 2012: Republican Establishment Tries To Tamp Down Tea Party Insurgency * Six-term Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) seemed all alone in facing an insurgent Tea Party primary challenge from state treasurer Richard Mourdock, who is backed by big money from the Club for Growth and FreedomWorks. * On Tuesday, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) endorsed Lugar and announced they would cut ads to support him. " -- While I agree with laws that allow anyone to support the candidate of their choice, I have two problems with the above scenario: one is that people (or the majority of the members of a PAC) should not be able to send money to politicians they are not able to actually vote for, and, second, that if a politician donates to another politician, the money has to come from his personal funds, not from his campaign account. If I wanted to donate more than am able to donate to a candidate, it's too easy for me to donate the maximum to a candidate, then give a similar amount to another politician (who is not being challenged) with the stipulation that he/she give a donation to the other candidate. --- Online story: "WASHINGTON — It isn't Mitt Romney who's giving Barack Obama fits as the president pivots to re-election mode. It's those federal bureaucrats carousing in Las Vegas, the Secret Service consorting with Colombian prostitutes and U.S. soldiers posing with bloody enemy corpses." -- You know, our brave soldiers posing with dead enemy suicide bombers doesn't bother me...it's a war, but the GSA and Secret Service scandals do bother me...they are the results of poor leadership and taxpayer abuse. --- The latest from barackobama.com: "Want to meet George Clooney and Barack Obama -- at Clooney's house? * He's hosting supporters at his home next month to help build support for this campaign and elect President Obama in November. And he's saving seats for two grassroots supporters like you and their guests. It's just not a chance most people get -- well, ever." -- "He's (Clooney) hosting supporters at his home to ..... elect President Obama in November"? To 'elect' potUS Arpege in November? Where has Clooney (for that matter, potUS Arpege) been the last 4 years? Romney is running for election; Arpege is running for re-election. On the other hand, I guess since potUS Arpege doesn't have a record of things he can proudly run on, maybe he thinks he's again the candidate of 'hope and change'... --- Passed on from a fellow BCer: "Apparently, I’m supposed to be more outraged by what Mitt Romney does with his money than by what Barack Obama does with mine." -- Good philosophy to compare every politician to when they run for re-election. --- More 'latest from barackobama.com': "I'm writing because Barack needs you out there this summer. * Through the Organizing Fellowship program, you can work in a full-time volunteer position, learn the principles of field organizing, and then carry out important grassroots activities on the ground. * It's an amazing experience -- one that could change your life while shaping this country for decades to come. * There will be difficult days, and long ones, too. But being an organizer is one of the best experiences you can have working in politics." -- "..being an organizer is one of the best experiences you can have working in politics."? Guess potUS Arpege can speak from experience on this, because he sure can't look at his presidency and claim that. --- From WRBL 3 story: "“When families are going down the whitewater and a sibling or a parent might not be willing to do it so they might be onshore then the Center will provide a place for cultural activity while the others are having their physical activity,” said (Bo) Bartlett." -- I like Bo Barlett... as a friend and as an artist; have a print of his , and he's done portraits of my mother, father, and aunt that are marvelous, but I do not agree with his evaluation that whitewater weekenders have culture on their minds as an alternative attraction. --- WRBL 3 story: "Reverend J.H. Flakes Jr. of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church is officially retiring after serving 50 years at his church." -- Hope he retires from politics as well! --- L-E story: "Ousted Columbus High Principal Mar-vin Crumbs will appeal the disciplinary action resulting from his showing faculty a clip of comedian Ron White’s “You Can’t Fix Stupid” routine. " -- On what basis? He did something stupid by showing "You can't fix stupid". Case closed. --- L-E story: "Three Columbus men get jail time in dogfighting case" -- "jail time"? An appropriate sentence would be to tether them in a cage of pi bulls at their once-a-week feeding time.... --- L-E headline: "Obama congratulates Alabama on BCS title, community service" -- Well, potUS Arpege and Bama certainly have one thing in common, after winning a 'national championship', they both fumbled the trophy. --- When you think about it, the Dr Crumbs' episode could definitely have been a script for an upcoming "Al Bundy" marathon showing. --- Since "stupid" has become a major local topic, here's a stupid (I know, redundant) liberal's L-E "soundoff": "The reason the Democrats didn’t get the tax law changed to make the rich pay a more fair share is because of filibustering and blockading by the Republicans. " -- "a more fair share"? In reality, 'a more fair share' for 'the rich' would be for 'the rich' to pay less. What's 'more fair' is for the nearly 50% (wonder what the percentage of liberals is in this number?) of non-income paying "taxpayers' to pay theor 'fair share'. I do have a curiosity question to ask...Is there mpre than one conr=tributing liberal to "soundoff", or are all the stupid liberal "soundoffs" the feelings of just one liberal? --- More stupid stuff as seen in the L-E: "“This is a teachable moment for them,” (Dr Susan)Andrews said. “We’re Americans, and we get to say we don’t like certain things, and children, students, need to know that. But they also need to know there are parameters within which you do that, and so I told the assistant principals, don’t try to squelch their feelings about this, but let’s teach them what is an acceptable way to do this. * “I thought the students’ wearing black, that was an acceptable way to do that." -- Arrggghhhh! "students wearing black... appropriate"? What's Dr Andrews trying to do, make this nothing but an issue of "black and Ron White"? --- More stupid stuff:
This picture further demonstrates how out-of-hand this situation has become. At a time when sanity and professionalism, not more stupidity, is needed, why is Dr Crumbs wearing a knit shirt and jeans on the CHS campus and addressing the student body? --- L-E story: "ATLANTA — Gov. Nathan Deal signed a handful of bills Thursday that tweak how the state funds K-12 education, saying his ultimate goal is to create a system that financially rewards public schools that improve student performance. " -- Let's start two pools. One as to when the first liberal screams, "That's not fair!", and, secondly, when Al Sharpton arrives to proclaim this is a 'racist action'. --- From L-E story: "Tiger defender - Tiger Woods’ swing coach Sean Foley said Thursday that criticism of his client had gone too far. Foley said everyone should support Woods because he is good for the game of golf. " -- Since when does affirmative action have a place in golf? No professional golfer gets a handicap advantage, nor are winnings enhanced by a 'learning curve'. I think Tiger Woods is good for the game but only when he's playing golf in an admirable way. Cussing, temper tantrums and the like are not reasons to admire any golfer, especially on tour. ---
