Kevin McCarthy dropped out of consideration for Speaker. I'm glad as the last thing the Republicans needed was a mainscream media field day of comparing the current Republican leadership to Senator "Better Dead than Red" McCarthy of the 1950s. It also means Newt Gingrich could be drafted.

I am holding in my hand a check my daughter received from her college to reimburse her for dropping a lab course I paid for. Why did her college send a check to her? I paid it, yet the college sent a reimbursement check to her.. How many other parents are getting their hard earned money diverted into their childrens' eager-to-spend fingers.. and probably aren't even aware it's being done? At a minimum, the college should put it back in "her" account (with interest) for the use on next semester's bill.

L-E story: "The Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors is urging Columbus Council to ask the local legislative delegation to place a referendum that would “thaw” the city’s property tax assessment freeze on next year’s November ballot. *   “Our board is appealing to Columbus City Council that they request the Georgia General Assembly to place the question of whether to sunset our property tax freeze on the November 2016 ballot,” Brian Anderson, president and CEO of the Columbus chamber said in a release. “Our position is simply to let the voters decide.” -- Good grief.. what BS.. If the Chamber wants to endorse anything, it should state where it stands on the freeze.. Members should know if the Board is making decisions that affect them negatively. If I were still a member of the Chamber, I would probably drop out if this is what they call "leadership". Mayor TomLYINGson will be gone in a little more  than 2 years, and there's no need to even give her any support of her folly to destroy the tax base for Columbus taxpayers. There will be no way to reverse a stupid decision of the voters,, especially if non-property owners get to vote on the issue.. A better way to address this would be direct questioning of the property owners.. just add a proposal on the tax bill each gets, saying the freeze exists, do you want to change it.. only those who want to change would have to respond. Another way would be to ask the property owners would they rather give up the freeze or give TomLYINGson the boot.

Malala Yousafzai.....Online story: "The story of Malala Yousafzai’s heroism has been well-documented. The efforts by the Taliban to silence the teen because of how outspoken she was in regards to the importance of young girls being allowed to attend school turned her into a symbol of strength around the world." -- Now it's a movie, "He Named Me Malala".. What I want to know is since she's so intent of pushing girls' education in America, why isn't Michelle also going into the middle east doing the same in Islamic influenced countries?
