Online story: "Last month, in the face of his city's escalating homelessness crisis, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti declared a state of emergency. *  with a record 46,000 homeless in the city, a 12 percent increase in the past two years — victims of the recession and soaring rents amid a real estate boom that has raised L.A. home prices by 27 percent in just three years. *  Three groups in particular have swelled the ranks, Garcetti says: veterans, many with mental health issues; emancipated foster youth; and nonviolent offenders released from prison after the 2014 passage of Proposition 47 reduced penalties for some drug crimes.  *  up to 70 percent of the homeless are addicted to meth and other hard drugs," -- Like the streets of hell, the streets of Liberal Asylum.. a.k.a., Los Angeles/LA are also paved with good intentions.. just the streets are full of "pot holes".. literally. What's not included in this admission of policy failure is the crime rate bump with 32,000 (70% of 46,000) homeless drug addicts looking for food and a "hit".

Online story (with media bias): "A white Cleveland police officer was justified in fatally shooting a black 12-year-old boy holding a pellet gun moments after pulling up beside him, according to two outside reviews conducted at the request of the prosecutor investigating the death. * S***** C*****, a lawyer for the Rice family, said the release of the reports shows the prosecutor is avoiding accountability, which is what the family seeks." -- "white ..police officer.....black 12-year-old boy"? If the interest is justice, what difference does skin color make (Hey, HILLsbury DOUGHgirl, we could use you here to explain)? But the worst aspect of this story is the rather large for his size 12-year-old who was waving a pistol's.. whether pellet.. or even toy, for that matter) lawyer claiming the prosecutor was "avoiding accountability".. While we grief at the child's life,, the real accountability to be questioned are of his parents.. and the community they lived in.. where were the "Black Lives Matter" rallies trying to convince the 12-year-old's neighborhood of this?

Online story: "A former investigator for the House Select Committee on Benghazi says he was unlawfully fired in part because he sought to conduct a comprehensive probe into the deadly attacks on the U.S. compound instead of focusing on Hillary Rodham Clinton and the State Department." -- "unlawfully fired"? Good grief.. if this Air Force Reserve Major was trying to assess blame and was not focused on the Secretary of State at the time, then this (_*_) was obstructing justice, and should have been court martialed.

Online headline: "US to pay Doctors Without Borders airstrike victims * The Pentagon announced Saturday plans to make 'condolence payments' to the families of victims of a U.S. air strike that mistakenly killed 22 people." -- Hmmm.. and what about "condolence payments"for our wounded warriors/vets and their families who had to operate under the current "rules of engagement" handicap ordered by the Commander-in-Chief?

I'm didn't even to wait to see the Oregon uniforms this week...nobody could design an uglier uniform than what Tennessee wore. Of course, UGA's second half performance was ugly in a different way.. it  really was an ugly game in so many ways.. Good luck, Chubb.

What's with Ole Miss?   Several years ago... 2010, I believe,, the mascot was changed from Col. Reb/Rebels to the Black Bears but they still paint the end zone with "REBELS"..

Online story: "A Michigan man has been shot and killed by a state trooper after the man struck a sheriff’s deputy with a crossbow, Michigan State Police said." -- Of course it was justified! When a person fires an arrow/bolt at you and hits you, there is no doubt that it was intentional.

Friday, I was driving on 17th Street near Linwood Cemetery and noticed how what use to be a 4 - Lane stretch of road for cars has been altered to 2 lanes for cars and 2 lanes for bicycles. We car drivers pay to use the roads, why don't the bicyclers?

You know, if Mayor TomLYINGson was a good business woman, she could raise all the additional revenues to run the golf courses, swimming facilities, the Civic Center, and the running/biking trails by charging the users for what it actually costs. Shoot, she could probably find a tax cut in there too.

If the Million Man March for Justice wants to be effective, it should be marching in Chicago's South side. Then making plans for other crime riddled major cities...

Jonathan Gruber incredibly stupid LIV's L-E "soundoff": "Planned Parenthood provides 400,000 Pap smears, performs 500,000 breast exams and prevents 516,000 unintended pregnancies a year. One in five women in the U.S. has used it, and 2.7 million Americans depend upon it." --  Hmmm.. sorta left a figure out of this mix.. 300,000 abortions... or did PP sorta just mix those into the "516,000 unintended pregnancies" category? Wonder, also, if PP told late term abortion candidates if PP knew the fetus was developed enough that PP could scavenge the body for "parts" PP could sell to do transplants in other carried-to-term babies? Oh, and another figure PP leaves out is the number of dollars it donates exclusively to Democratic Party politicians?

L-E story: " A 33-year-old Columbus man died just before midnight Friday after he was shot multiple times at the 4th Quarter sports bar on Macon Road, police said Saturday. * Dominic Leo Mitchell was pronounced dead at 11:58 p.m. by Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton in the emergency room at Midtown Medical Center. His body will be transported to the crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy on Tuesday." -- "body will be transported to the crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy "? Good grief.. was it not obvious enough that the dead person was shot "multiple times"? I just think of other stories of people who have died in one-car accidents that it was determined on the spot to be a heart attack or some other indiscernible  cause of death, and no autopsy was called for.

Thinking more about the "endorsement" made by the local Chamber of Commerce for Mayor TomLYINGson's desire to eliminate the tax freeze going on the ballot really has put a burr under my saddle. Even if you forget the amount of tax dollars  the Mayor can and does fund the Chamber with (around $1,000,000.00 per a reliable source), the new head of the Chamber has only been in Columbus for about 3 or 4 months and has no understanding how much good the tax freeze does for the stability of the community.

From the Columbus City Manager's Agenda: " THAW THE FREEZE: Request that local delegation to the Georgia General Assembly introduce local legislation to sunset the Columbus Georgia Homestead Assessment Freeze found at Ga. L. 1981, and substitute a new homestead exemption tax system effective for all homestead purchases after Jan. 1, 2017. (Requested by the mayor) Homeowners who are currently under the freeze or who purchase homesteads on or before Jan. 1, 2017, shall continue under the current homestead assessment freeze. Persons purchasing homes after Jan. 1, 2017, shall receive a $20,000 homestead exemption beginning in the 2018 tax year." --  I can say now, that I will work against any Councilor or state representative that supports this request.. Names will be taken, and constant reminders to the tax paying property owners will be sent reminding of which representatives voted to raise their taxes. This is not a ballot initiative. It was on two previous ballots and overwhelmingly enacted and reinforced. Mayor TomLYINGson, get your own business in order.. collect proper fees that pay for the services offered by City faciities, and stop raiding our fund balance. It's that simple of a solution.

From Council Agenda - Purchase Request:  HARLEY-DAVIDSON “ROAD KING” POLICE MOTORCYCLES: It is requested that council authorize the purchase of four Harley-Davidson “Road King” Police Motorcycles from Chattahoochee Harley-Davidson (Columbus), at a unit price of $23,650 and total amount of $94,600." -- Motorcycles at $ 23,650.00? You know, there are cars that will serve such purposes for our police officers that will provide a safer environment for them in all sorts of weather and street conditions that cost less than this... Maybe this alternative should be researched before authorization.

L-E editorial cartoon:

You know.. there is more truth in this than meets the eye.. because it's liberal policy that keeps such info out of the gun database in background searches.. Qualified analysis should be on the record for gun purchase backgrounds as should an option for a buyer to  know if it is on their info, as what recourse they challenging such info.

Someone asked me point blank if I support Donald Trump.. I said I do.. and will, unless someone I think is even more electable steps forward and wins the lead.  So far, none have demonstrated the kind of leadership Trump is showing..

L-E guest commentary headline: "Commentary: Robert B. Simpson * What Obama really meant" -- The only thing worse than a president having to have translators to explain what he says, is a columnist that listens to what the president's explainers say. We have reasonable gun laws.. in fact we have lots of UNreasonable gun laws as well. but the laws, eve the guns are not what is spurring the "abundance" (for lack of a more precise word) of "mass shootings.. You have to wonder though, that a lot of them are carried out by sick copycats eager to have their names spread across the news sources and getting primary spots on Goolge searches. I do say that Col (ret) Simpson did recover in the end when he wrote: " I’m grateful to have been enlightened, but I’m also considerably worried. Until now, I had thought my weapons, which I’ve owned in peace for many years, were mine to have and hold just like any other private property, to use as my last line of defense if my home is invaded. Now I have to worry, when I hear a noise in the night, that it isn’t a burglar, but the President, come to take my guns."  We all must fear a government leader that wants to take your guns.

From the "what's wrong with this picture" department - L-E headline/story: "ROCKY FLOP * Georgia loses Chubb, blows 21-point lead in loss to Tennessee * For (Sony) Michel, it wasn’t enough. With the game slowly sinking in, Michel zeroed in on the lone mistake he made during the game * “I made the biggest mistake that turned this game around,” Michel said. “I want to take this game on myself. I lost this game because of me.” *   Senior wideout Malcolm Mitchell said he wished he was by Michel when he began blaming himself for Georgia’s loss. Mitchell said that there wasn’t one play by one player that cost the team the victory." -- The biggest error wasn't during the game, but after the game.. QB Lambert should have been voicing the support of his troops.. and taking responsibility for the outcome.. The QB must be the team leader in all losses.. that's UGA's problem with bringing in an outsider who hasn't had the sweat time of a couple of years or practicing with "the team" to earn his leadership spot.. he blew this opportunity as well.

Online headline: "2015 Presidents Cup results: Team USA wins dramatic cup on last hole of last match" -- What a moment for the US Captain Jay Haas and his son Bill! I imagine no greater pride or love could be had by a father.. I know how my grandfather, J. Dupont Kirven, Sr described a similar moment in time when his son, J. Dupont Kirven, Jr (my Dad),  at the age of 16, came back from the morning round deficit, and beat him in the 1933 Southeastern Invitational Amateur Championship in 1933.
