Is there a politically correct word that can be used to 'back hand compliment government? We have such a "DOH!" "phrase" (I'm from the government and I'm here to help.) we can use, but we don't have a "DOH!" "word".. I'm talking about one we can use here in Columbus today to describe the garbage pick-up schedule this week.. Since today is Eclipse Day, our garbage service will run until Noon, then close down for the day .. (There is a law.. a reasonable law, to protect the pick-up team from possible eye damages from the sun) So far so good.. but... BUT the Monday route will be RUN IN ITS ENTIRETY AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY!.. Question: why not just cancel Monday and run the regular routes on Tuesday/Wednesday like is done when holidays are on Mondays? Look at the expenses that would be saved.. plus the wear and tear on the trucks...

From the "when did the history of Boston become forgotten" department - Online story: " Boston police arrested 27 people in protests surrounding a "Free Speech" rally, Police Commissioner William Evans told reporters on Saturday. * Most of the arrests were for disorderly conduct, with some for assault and battery during scuffles between police and protesters, Evans said." -- who would have though that the heart of the American Revolution would have digressed that Americans, after shedding blood to win our freedom and the right to rule ourselves, are protesting "Freedom of Speech"

---
Did you see the video of the masked anti-freedom-of-speech (_*_) grab the US flag from an older woman? Pulled her, too, as she held tightly to THE symbol of freedom until she fell from being pulled faster than she could keep up.. Then, she got up and chased after the (_*_)! That, my friends, is what the American flag stands for.. loyalty to our country and Constitution. Why didn't police arrest any/all anarchists wearing masks at a public event?

Hmmm..it also seems odd to me that people making a stand against hatred in America would revere our flag..not urinate or spit on it or trample on or burn it

---
Hmmm.. according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there is only one "hate group" organized/based in Columbus, GA.. the "Nation of Islam".. a black separatist group.... In fact, the "Nation of Islam is the ONLY SPCL "hate group" in the Columbus. GA/Phenix City, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area... sorta takes the wind out of a lot of local political rhetoric

---
For a little more perspective overall.. the SPCL lists over 917 "hate groups" in the US.. based on all he news, which one group are you led to believe has the most "chapters"..  nope, nope, probably "nope".. The SPLC list 193 "black separatist groups".  In fact, there are six (New Black Panthers, War on the Horizon, Nation of Islam, Israel United in Christ, Israelite School of Universal Practical Knowledge, The Israelite Church of God in Jesus Christ.) of such in Washington, DC alone..compare that to the other hate groups in our Capital.. the White Nationalists have "2", the KKK has "0", the Neo-Nazis have "0", Skinheads have "0", Neo-Confederates have "0".  Hmmm... wait a minute.. I think SPLC missed an important "Black Separatist" group..you know... The Congressional Black Caucus!

Going to Atlanta Saturday, it dawned on me that I didn't need to check the Braves schedule to see they had a game today that might cause us traffic issues getting into or leaving Atlanta now that they have moved north

---
I remember when it first became legal for lawyers to advertise...who knew that one day we'd be wishing we could turn on our TVs, or drive through town without seeing Ken Nugent's mug.

---
You know, mainscream media is convicting itself by claiming/reporting Trump is a Nazi/Nazi sympathizer.. It's nothing but "fake news".

---
Carl Icahn, billionaire investor, and unpaid Trump advisor on deregulation issues, resigned Friday.. apparently a "hit piece" is about to be unleashed by The New Yorker. Icahn released a letter to Trump Friday that he would resign to prevent "partisan bickering" about his role that Democrats suggested could benefit him financially.... Hmmm.. it's sure a sorry state when mainscream media  goes after great businessmen as a way to impale Trump, but...on the other hand, maybe Icahn will stop supporting Democrats and Rinos in future elections.

L-E headline/story: "Jail overcrowding returns despite Rapid Resolution initiative * The Muscogee County Jail is packed beyond capacity despite efforts to reduce overcrowding the past few years. * The facility, which can accommodate a maximum of 1,065 people, had about 1,077 inmates as of Friday, said Muscogee County Sheriff Donna Tompkins. * The numbers continue to climb two years after the city implemented a Rapid Resolution initiative to more efficiently move people through the legal system and relieve jail overcrowding. * The program, approved by Columbus Council in 2015, was developed through a collaborative effort that involved local judges, the District Attorney’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, law enforcement agencies and grassroots organizations such as the NAACP." -- Hmmm..'approved by Council.. collaborative effort (of) local judges, the District Attorney's Office, the Public Defender's Office law enforcement agencies, and grassroot organizations such as the NAACP"? You know, why weren't the everyday CITIZENS of Columbus included, and did I misread it or was not Sheriff Darr left out of the discussions?

From same story: ". We’ve got 100 people in jail on a violation of probation; no bond, they can’t go anywhere, they can’t do anything, ” (Sheriff Tompkins) said, “which is why we’re trying to notify the Department of Community Services.” -- You know.. Rapid Resolution will not benefit the community as long as recidivism is so high..

Robert Short.. and family.. their emotions are being kicked around again.. on top of that, what must having his home losing over $125,000.00 in Fair Market Value by the new assessments? (parcel ID 145 012 013 )

We all take pride in Glenn Davis.. Columbus City Councilor for one thing, but he came to Columbus to play baseball for the AA Columbus Astros on his way up to MLB stardom.. A little known fact: Glenn Davis pitched the finals of the 1st "Peach Little League Picnic's "Home Run Derby" in 1980 . 8 Peach Leaguers got to take Glenn "downtown"...Have a great time in Baltimore, Glenn..

---
It was unique in Little League history as players from the St Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates entered Howard J Lamade stadium in Williamsport, PA to WATCH. I just hope it reminded the big leaguers that they need to be better role models in the future.

---
It was also neat that the minor league baseball field was overhauled to Major League standards so a Big League game could be played in Williamsport last night as part of the Little League World Series experience.. I had one complaint, though, the "special uniforms" looked like softball uniforms rather than baseball uniforms.

---
Plan on watching the LL World Series game on Wednesday evening (7:30).. The SE team from North Carolina squares off with the the SW team from Texas in the finals of the Winner's Bracket..The North Carolina team is awesome and have my "bet" for the eventual championship.... but that's not why I'm writing this particular "item".....I'm real excited about two things go into effect next year..new limitations/control over bat performances, and   the best news is that LL Baseball is finally eliminating 7th graders (13 year olds) from playing Major Boys.

---
A fellow BCer reminded me of this: I find it rather opaque that mainscream media is so vicious..so adamant .. about removing Confederate monuments , yet were condemning of those who wanted to remove Mosques following 9.11.01.. Shoot, mainscream media even defended a new Mosque being built in the former shadows of the World Trade Towers!

---
Online headline: "Texting and walking could soon be illegal in this US city" -- Well, they might as well throw "gum chewing" into the mix as well.

---
Online story: "The University of Texas at Austin is removing the statues of four figures tied to the Confederacy, the school's president said on Sunday, saying they had become symbols of white supremacy." -- Hmmm... and how about the 3 Mosques in Austin.. you know the ones that symbolize Islamic Terrorism following the 9.11.01 attack on America?

---
Was studying the Southern Poverty Law Center "hate map" again this morning.. I find it strange.. perhaps even deceitful, that the SPLC does not have a "category" for Islamic hate groups.. Oh, The Nation of Islam IS listed into the "Black Separatists" category, but there is no listing of all the known "Islamic 'cells' " we all-to-often hear about the FBI "knowing about" after a terror attack on Americans has happened. .. Oh.. and don't "go there".. the SPLC lists both "Christian and Catholic "hate group' categories.

---
Please.. let's have a moment of loud, raucous laughter in memory of Dick Gregory and  Jerry Lewis...

----
Chick-fil-A has a concession restaurant in the new Mercedes-Benz stadium.. bless their hearts, as Chick-fil-A will stick with its "not-open-on-Sundays" policy despite the Falcons having on 1 non-Sunday home game.. Of course, after last years Falcon collapse in the Super Bowl, Chick-fil-A may feel that there won't be enough fans in the seats to make it worthwhile to BE pen. Anyway.. what a great statement Chick-fil-A makes!

---
Here's another interesting list: Online headline: "The worst countries to travel alone, ranked by perception" -- Hmmm.. what do these top 3 on the list countries have in common.. Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia ..other than they are mid-Eastern countries, all 3 have 95 -to-99%  Muslim citizens... as we have been taught, there are really no coincidences..

---
L-E story: "Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley says a 21-year-old Columbus man died as the result of a gunshot wound Sunday morning." --  You know.. if not already there, Columbus is in record territory of the number of murders this year.. what is this.. 23 or 24 or maybe even 25? Surely the L-E needs to be keeping us informed.. the community has a right to know...... the community has NEED  to know!

---
L-E headline/story: "MCSD resolution asks to reduce commission paid for collection of school taxes *  According to the school board agenda, the board faces the costs of borrowing in order to continue meeting operating costs. In anticipation of delayed billing of tax revenue receipts, the board wants the city to reduce the fee reimbursement by the dollar amount the district must incur as a cost of borrowing." -- I think this is absolutely the right thing for the City to do!

---

L-E guest commentary editorial: "Headline: "Racist or not, the effect is still the same * BY JACK BERNARD *  Special to the Ledger-Enquirer"  -- Trump is not a racist.. he's just being excoriated for not being politically correct.. and this is exactly what America needs to get discussions started on finding solutions..
