Richard Hyatt wonders why there aren't 2 or 3 "Britt Davids" in Muscogee County. The real question is, why aren't the techniques and practices at Britt David 'the standard' at every school in Muscogee County?
---
WTVM9 headline: "Civil rights group says cars vandalized before meeting" -- Sounds more like an Al Sharpton/Tawana Brawney hoax promoting attention and false hatred.
---
Any of you legal eagles want to step up to the plate and help the Hardaway High School teacher take on the MCSD Board and Superintendent about an incorrigible student? Their response, well, lack of one, is disgusting!
---
Online story: "The KKK says their membership is “booming” in Colorado, with 12 white supremacist groups active in the state," -- Yep, those "southern" boys are sure racist.
---
Any plea that Santorum has made to make his case for us to believe he has a conservative's backbone just withered when he asked DIM&DUMBERats to crossover the primary and vote for him.
---
L-E headline: "Inspections and Code Department Director Bill Duck retires" -- Mayor Obamalinson said, "All I can say is he retired". All I can say is that "that" is cold, calculating, and condemning.

---

Liberal's L-E "soundoff": "Five dollar gas is not a sign of the end times. We are a smart, resourceful nation. We’ll buckle down and get through it. And maybe think a little more about public transportation. " -- Sounds like a lib who's still driving a Yugo and trying to act like he's smarter than real people think.

---

L-E story: "CHARDON, Ohio — The Ohio teenager accused of killing three students in a shooting rampage in a high school cafeteria chose his victims at random and is “someone who’s not well,” a prosecutor said Tuesday as the slightly built young man appeared in juvenile court. " -- "Someone who's not well"? Does this prosecutor actually get paid for his opinions?

---

L-E story: "GUANTANAMO BAY NAVY BASE, Cuba — The military unveiled a new $744,000 soccer field on Tuesday, a dusty enclosure with two-toned gravel and fences topped by barbed wire — all designed as a quality-of-life improvement for cooperative captives. " Cable TV wasn't enough? Guess al-Qaida folks do need a field where they can kick around some infidel's head.

---

L-E headline: "Columbus Council OKs spending hike " -- Money just burns a hole in politicians' pockets! Why aren't the Department Heads who kept their operations under budget just praised and rewarded, and Department Heads who didn't warned or fired, and the 'extra' money used to replenish the Fund Balance?

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

This shootings in the school cafeteria in Chardon, Ohio happened at breakfast. Lets face it, we can solely place the blame on the federal government for having a breakfast program that brought the victims and the shooter together before school started. Otherwise, all those students would have gotten their breakfast meal at their homes.

---

A nearly 'silent' movie won the Oscar for "Best Picture" this year. Maybe the Hollywood crowd will learn a lesson and practice more 'silence' in their political rantings.
---

Online headline: "Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tells top US officials the country is going to keep America in the dark on a major decision." -- "in the dark"? Guess potUS O'Blather will now campaign that Netanyahu is a racist.

Columbus is a great place to raise a family. Columbus is a hub for for Macon, Albany; Dothan/Eufaula, Montgomery, Auburn-Opelika, Lagrange, and Atlanta, all cities within a 100 mile radius, and Columbus is within 4 hours of the mountains of North Carolina, and the beaches of Florida. All Columbusites have to do is keep the politicians and media from screwing it up... a tall order at times, but doable.
---
L-E story: "Civic Center Director Ross Horner declined to comment on the reason for the dismissal, beyond saying it was official Friday. He said he has no immediate plans to fill the position. He and the other managers in the Civic Center will handle Richard’s duties. Horner said the Civic Center has four managers in the finance, marketing, ticket sales and operations. “Marcel was the fifth manager,” Horner said. “Our staff is capable of handling the ice rink and moving it forward.” --
Stading O for Mr Horner. Adding, basically, a specific scheduler for the new ice rink was at best superfluous at the time, and certainly wasn't prudent considering the economy.
---
Wow, the above makes two straight major changes initiated by new managers this year. Worsely made a great choice in opening certain Parks&Rec facilities on holidays so citizens enjoying a holiday would have choices to make spending with their families.
---
WRBL3 headline: "Voters in Harris County will decide Sunday alcohol sales during Presidential Preference Primary" -- Is this really the best scenario for holding a non-partisan referendum? The DIM&DUMBERats don't have an interest in their primary since they have on potUS O'Blather on their ballot, so Harris County is leaving the choice up to the Republicans to decide.
---
L-E story: "WASHINGTON — The Obama administration said Monday it has no control over how the New York Police Department spends millions of dollars in White House grants that helped pay for NYPD programs that put entire American Muslim neighborhoods under surveillance. In New York, the police commissioner said he wouldn’t apologize. * The White House has no opinion about how the grant money was spent, spokesman Jay Carney said." -- potUS O'Blather put himself between a rock and a hard place. A Republican running for re-election would be extolling this use of T.A.R.P money as the only success story of that fiasco, while DIM&DUMBs will have to apologize to the Arab world.
---
L-E picture:

Looks like Mayor Obamalinson learned a lesson from Hillary; at least LOOK like you know how to bake cookies (and pancakes).
---
If Warren Buffet is so concerned, but doesn't want to donate extra taxes if he should want to do so, then why not offer his talents to investing the US tax revenues so the government could keep up with inflation?

L-E headline: "Comic book show a big hit" -- Ooops, my bad. Thought Council had published a book on the management efficiency of the Civic Center, Parks&Rec, and City Manger's Offices.
---
L-E headline: "Reader disapproves of city’s poisonous landscape approach" -- Why are not the homeowners/property owners responsible for such . I'd really be POed if the City came and "edged' the curb at my house after I have spent time and money keeping up my lawn up. Looking at the picture, the swath is of destruction looks to be about 2' in width which means the person applying the grass killers is not only doing a 'drunken sailor's job', but also is wasting a lot of pretty expensive chemicals.
---
Online headline: "GOP Governor Says He Hasn't Studied Controversial Ultrasound Bill" -- Of course, a DIM&DUMBERat Governor would have said he signed the bill so he could see what was in it.
---
Online headline: "Warren Buffett On Housing Market: I Was 'Dead Wrong' " -- Well, that's a start. Now if he'll just admit he was wrong for claiming to want to pay more in taxes, and in supporting potUS O'Blather, Buffet will start to sleep better at night.
---
From L-E story on a convicted cop killer: "(Defense attorney Jeremy W.) Armstrong has sought to determine whether Henderson is mentally retarded and therefore legally immune to capital punishment. " -- Sounds more like the attorney is mentally retarded towards justice.
---
The latest from www.barackobama.com: " We have two quick questions for you. Can you take a minute to answer them?
* There's a good reason we're asking for your feedback: The kind of organization we all decided to be a part of only works if people like you pitch in to build it." -- He asked what I would require in order to support his campaign. Y'all can figure out what I said on your own.
---
Romney could get back his traction if he hired Newt to research and write his speeches. Maybe even offer Newt the VP spot later on.
---
L-E's "Quotable": “When ideas fail, words come in very handy.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe German scientist and author (1749-1832) -- And you wonder why potUS O'Blather want even give a speech in a school classroom without his TelePrompters...
---
Polls say potUS O'Blather's popularity is back up to 50%. I guess that's if you only ask DIM&DUMBERats.
---
Speaking of 'safe sex', maybe Congress should wear some protection before passing any more business regulations.
---
Seeding and ratings don't mean much in golf these days. In the World Match Play, 64th Seed Ernie Els beat #1 seed in the first round, and in yesterday's matches, saw 21st seed Hunter Mahan beat #2 seed Rory McIlroy for the Championship, and #40 seed Mark Wilson beat #3 seed Lee Westwood for the 3rd spot.
---
L-E story: "NEW YORK — Adult fans of J.K. Rowling can rejoice: She has a new novel coming, for grown-ups. * The kids will have to wait and see." -- How dumb can media be? This is a great example. All the kids that read the Harry Potter books are now grown-ups.

Online headline: "Governor Snubs Obama's Dinner Invite" -- I knew it! It was Governor Brewer of Arizona. May be heard it was going to be an all-you-can-eat Mexican food bar, and she felt that potUS O'Blather should first 'bar Mexicans' from crossing the Arizona border..
---
potUS O'Blather is now claiming we can supply all our gasoline needs by converting algae to gas. Guess he has a close first hand view of the bottom of the barrel to find this pond scum; or could it be potUS O'Blather considers this another 'green energy' scum...uh, scam.
---
potUS O'Blather.... as long as you're apologizing about Qurans loaded with terrorist information, he better damn well apologize to the families of the American's who were executed by Afghani military personnel.... FAST! We're waiting!
---
49.5% of Americans do not pay federal income taxes. potUS O'Blather, what, in your opinion, is their 'fair share'?
---
Remember when Senator , now VP, Joe Biden ranted that is was 'patriotic' to pay taxes? Guess VP Biden and potUS O'Blather considers the DIM&DUMBERats who elected them unpatriotic. You know, they're right...on that aspect.
---
Following up on that Secretary of Treasury, Tim Geithner says it is a 'privilege' of being an American to pay taxes. Is he trying to get DIM&DUMVERats to chip in some taxes, or is he about to chastise the 'privileged' to feel guilty about not voting for DIM&DUMBERats?
---
Heard that Turbo Tax ad again yesterday...you know, the one that claims Turbo Tax is guaranteed accurate? Guess that shoots the legs out from Geithner's claim that Turbo Tax made a mistake when he was computing his taxes in the past.
---
If Mayor Obamalinson wants to find 'new dollars', a simple way would be to uproot all those useless walk/don't walk 'silent policemen' put up at nearly every stoplight intersection in Columbus. She won't get all the money wasted back, but somewhere, some town might give her 50-cents on the dollar, and 100's of thousands of dollar annually would be saved from installing new ones and maintaing old ones.
---
Speaking of those idiot 'silent policemen' thingies, where wil they be stationed at the non-vehicular-stop Weracoba Roundabout so children can walk from school to the playground?
---
L-E headline/story: "Muscogee County School Board to study student transportation * “We need to know just what transportation costs are. We need the expenses broken down for us,” board member Pat Hugley Green said. “We need to know just what we are paying for.” -- We got trouble. Trouble with a capital "T", right here in River City. Board member Hugley Green (still think that sounds like the name of a wall cover paint from the 1950's) actually said, " “We need to know just what we are paying for.” Can't you just see her in Nancy Pelosi's shoes saying we have to pass this bill so we can see what we are voting for?
---
Have you noticed all the 'lowboy' stealth light bars showing up on our law enforcement vehicles? I use to feel comforted at being able to spot a police vehicle at a distance because of the 'bubble' or 'highboy' light bars; it gave a sense of relief knowing others seeing it also would be better drivers. Now, our police cars might better change the motto of "to serve and protect" to "stealth and collect (fines)".
---
Minimum wage is not in effect to determine a person's value as a worker. It is a bottom level of pay for entry level jobs, and seldom does a worker stay at such level once a worker has proven his/herself dependable. A person's level of pay is pretty much determined by what ever effort such person puts into a job opportunity. I won't say 100% of employers feel great pleasure in pulling an employee aside, and tell him/her that his/her work has been good so he/she has earned a wage raise, but I think it will apply to 99.9% of all small business employers.
---
From City Manager's Agenda: "Authorization is requested to execute an agreement with Community Action for Improvement Inc. for an amount not to exceed $400,000 to administer the Weatherization Program. * This weatherization program will retrofit residential buildings that meet income eligibility requirements of 200 percent of poverty level by conducting energy audits and the needed modifications to the homes to increase Energy Efficiency. Community Action for Improvement Inc. will act as the city’s agent for this program to address the needs of each individual home. The program will provide assistance for 40 homes, with a total of $6,500 per home that meet income eligibility requirements." -- "This weatherization program will retrofit residential buildings that meet income eligibility requirements"? Does this mean properties that the owner lives in or are rental properties eligible, too? Also, since there is a limit of 40 such residences and a cap of $6,500.00 per residence, it means the maximum payout for 'improvements' is (40 X 6500) $260,000.00 meaning that there is another $140,000.00 being earmarked for the Community Action for Improvement Inc corporate owners. Who are the owners, and why is a program of assistance so heavy with corporate expenses not actually going to help those in need.
---
Added note: Corporate search revealed that Community Action for Improvement INC is listed as a Lagrange, GA non-profit which further make me wonder why such a large portion of the City Manager's
set aside' is geared for corporate expenses versus actually improvements to properties.

If there is a minimum tax/fee for City services, then there should be a maximum tax, too. There are homes that pay $50,000.00 + annually in property taxes, and I do not think the City could defend itself in a court case to show ability to give such citizens that level of service.

Wasilla, Alaska's high school unveiled a new statue on it's campus. According to students, it would be the perfect mate to be placed by our own Viagra Falls statue outside the River Center.

Stephen Tyler gave his presentation of a 'moon' rising on AOL Thursday night. Looking back, it was not the first time he's shown his (_@_) on AOL.
---
Just was presented with a brilliant commercial endeavor. My wife suggested we develop an 'app' that gives parents directions on raising teens.
---
Online headline: "Edwards Sex Tape to Be Destroyed" -- Uh-huh...but don't expect the copies hidden in places to ever go away.
---
The Founding Fathers understood "unity" was the key to freedom for all Americans; why is there such a focus on "diversity" among today's politicians?
---
L-E headline: "Chavez heads to Cuba for tumor removal " -- Oooops, my bad. Thought there was a Castro regime coup in progress.
---
L-E headline: "Bloomberg: NYPD’s monitoring of Muslims was legal " -- When liberals and liberal politicians need confirmation, they always turn to George Orwell's "Animal Farm" for vindication..."All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others."; it also sounds better than citing Karl Marx.
---
L-E headline: "It’s not easy for presidents to say ‘I’m sorry’" -- Could have fooled me...it looks mighty easy and natural for potUS O'Blather. Now, we just need someone to hack into his TelePrompter speech feed, and insert an apology to the American people for his performance in office.
---
L-E's "Blog post of the day": “The Muscogee County School Board will hold a retreat Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Empire Mills Room at the Columbus Marriott. The Whole Board Governance training session will be conducted by Tony Arasi from Georgia School Boards Association. This is in accordance with the new board governance training that is required for Georgia School Board Members.” -- Training for what... jumping through hoops; getting on board to the State Mantra? I just wished they were trained to recognize problems and solutions.
---
L-E headline: "Oil prices rising to near 2011 highs on Iran worries " -- Yeah 'worries' that potUS O'Blather will apologize to Ahmandine-JIHAD, and give him some enriched plutonium as a 'make up' gift.
---
From L-E story: "Topics that Teen Advisors discuss include how to deal with peer pressure, how to choose quality friends and how to deal with low self esteem. * “We depend totally on donations,” Cash said of the non-profit organization. “Last year, we had 414 unique donors. These people recognize the effectiveness of the program.” * Its budget for this year is $472,000, according to Cash. Funding from United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley and a grant from the Columbus Office of Crime Prevention help. -- How does a donation of tax dollars from the Crime Prevention Board fit in with the stated goals/aims (how to deal with peer pressure, how to choose quality friends and how to deal with low self esteem) of Teen Advisors?

Online headline: "US Postal Service Cuts Starting In May" -- "Service cuts starting in May"? Maybe like May 1977! (you know, with the Cuzzin' Jimmy mistake)
---
L-E headline: "U.S. Postal Service moving mail processing from Columbus to Montgomery" -- Hmmm, or is this a case of something that happened months ago, and we're just getting the announcement delivered by mail?
---
Online headline/story: "William Beavers, Cook County Commissioner, Accused Of Tax Fraud * Beavers told the Chicago Sun-Times he believes he was indicted because he refused to "wear a wire" on his commissioner colleague John Daley, the former mayor's brother. Daley claims he is unaware if he is under federal investigation. * "They tried to get to me to become a stool pigeon and I wouldn’t become a stool pigeon," Beavers told the Sun-Times. "They wanted me to wear a wire on John Daley." -- Aside from a second "busy beaver" joke in the last few days, the John Daley mentioned is also a former potUS O'Blather Chief of Staff. Maybe potUS O'Blather should change his presidential theme song to "Sweet Home, Chicago"; he certainly knows the words to it.
---
Online headline: "Pastors Tell How They Know Obama Is Christian" -- Oh, why, because he 'plays one on TV' while making campaign speeches?
---
You know, if the government spent all the money it is spending on GED course ads, and spent it on advertising the importance of high school when the students are young, there would probably be no need for government run GED programs, and a lot of tax dollars would be saved.
---
Online story: "Los Angeles police chief Charlie Beck thinks that all Californians should be allowed to obtain state-issued drivers licenses -- even undocumented immigrants." -- Whoa! Hold on, partner! I'll agree so far as to support the rights of qualified California citizens getting a driver's license, BUT let's limit that to Californians who are both American citizens AND official residents of California. Neither attribute fits an undocumented immigrant!
---
Online quote source: "The intelligent man is one who has successfully fulfilled many accomplishments, and is yet willing to learn more." - Ed Parker " -- Guess the mainstream media needs to stop referring to potUS O'Blather as 'intelligent'...even for a DIM&DUMBERat.
---
Online headline: "Obama Fights Back Against Idea He's Reason For High Gas Prices " -- How bad can potUS O'Blather flip-flop? He practically campaigned on his desire for $5.00 gasoline, but I guess he doesn't want it so close to election time...
---
From the "only in California" department - Online headline/story: "Sadly, giving plastic surgery as gifts is nothing new. But here's one we never heard before: a dad performing his own daughter's breast enhancement procedure for her 18th birthday. * California-based surgeon Michael Niccole tells ABC's "20/20" that operating on his (adopted) daughter, Brittani, is really no big deal: "I've done surgery on my other sons (and another adopted daughter), my wife, my cousins, my father, and I feel very comfortable."" -- The 'father/doctor' should be arrested for an incestuous act, but we'll probably read in the future that the father/doctor pulls a "Woody Allen", divorcing the mother and marrying one of his adopted daughters.
---
L-E headline/story: "Women’s issues have strong local voice at U.N. *
El-Amin chosen for Commission on the Status of Women * A clamor over birth control has erupted over President Barack Obama’s health care plan requiring coverage for women working in religious institutions. State Sen. Josh McKoon, a Republican attorney, has introduced a bill to exempt any religious employer in Geor- gia from having to provide the benefit. * “This is what creates poverty,” El-Amin said." -- No, what creates poverty is bad choices, whether it is not getting an education that is made available to you, or women having children out of wedlock or with someone who is not committed to providing for his family.
---
L-E story: "There were 351,000 new jobless claims in the week ending Feb. 18, the same as the revised figure for the previous week, the Labor Department reported Thursday. The four-week average dropped to 359,000 from 366,000, reflecting a continued decrease in claims." -- Hmmm, only a president up for re-election can find glee in a figure of ONLY 351,000 new claims for unemployment. Over a year's time, that's over 18,000,000 new people who lost a job.
---
L-E headline: "Oil hits a 9-month high, near $108 " -- It must be hard for potUS O'Blather to both contain his enthusiasm for $5.00 a gallon gasoline, while claiming to do his best to curtail gasoline prices in his campaign speeches. Guess it does give him experience for an acting job, such as playing a president on TV, when he's looking for a new job next January.
---
This must be horrible news for Government Motor's "VOLT" and its 9.3 gallon gas tank. Once customers realize that the purported GM savior will cost them $46.50 PLUS the cost of an overnight battery charge to travel 300 miles, even a technology toy will lose its appeal.

Online headline: "Chris Christie To Warren Buffett: 'Just Write A Check And Shut Up' " -- Amen!!!!!!
---
Online headline: "Three Members Of Congress Receive Threatening Letters" -- Well, it would probably have been 400+ members if the Post Office delivered them all on time.
---
Online story: "Oregon State cornerback Malcolm Marable has been suspended indefinitely by the Beavers after he was cited for driving 104 mph on Interstate 5." -- Hmmm, guess this is the 21st Century definition of a 'busy beaver'....
---
Online quote service: "Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and diligence." - Abigail Adams " -- And our school system doesn't encourage the students strive to achieve, much less do so on the own initiative.
---
Another from the same quote service: "The world is full of suffering. It is also full of overcoming it." - Helen Keller" -- This should be tattooed in reverse on every liberal's forehead so they would have to see it in the mirror every morning before they get out and try to take over other people's personal lives.
---
L-E story: "(Dr. Robert) Wright was appointed by former President George H.W. Bush to a committee to push for the creation of a national black history museum and was present at the museum’s groundbreaking." -- How did that happen? I mean Bush and Wright are both Republicans, and everyone knows (at least according to the mainstream media, and DIM&DUMBERats) that Republicans want to suppress blacks.
---
The liberal L-E's take of the above: "The country’s first black president helped break ground on a National Mall museum meant to give voice to the African-American experience long ignored by the chief repository of U.S. history and heritage." -- Guess POTUS Bush 43 should be credited with providing potUS O'Blather with this "shovel ready job".

L-E headline: "Georgia House passes charter school measure" --
Muscogee County School Board chairwoman Cathy Williams calls it a scheme to divert public money to private schools with no accountability." -- Oh, like the public, from which such dollars are extracted, believes that public schools have great accountability?
---
WTVM9 headline: "Does faith have a place in politics? -- You betcha! Republicans have faith in each American being able to rise if given the chance, and DIM&DUMBERats have faith in believing no one but themselves have a clue of what's good for them.
---
potUS O'Blather joined B B King in a Black History gala, and sang "Sweet Home Chicago"; B B King then followed that with "The Thrill is Gone". How appropriate!
---
L-E story: "PHILADELPHIA — A group of protesters affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street movement plans to elect 876 “delegates” from around the country and hold a national “general assembly” in Philadelphia over the Fourth of July as part of ongoing protests over corporate excess and economic inequality. * The group, dubbed the 99% Declaration Working Group, said Wednesday delegates would be selected during a secure online election in early June from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories." -- Question: Wouldn't being elected as a delegate put them into the 1% they are protesting about?
---
Why does the L-E give us a 'bio' on Carmen Cavezza when he writes a 'letter to the editor', yet ignores the same 'bio' when Judy F Brouillette writes her ravings about Republicans? Everyone knows General Cavezza's history of service to the country and our community, but few know that Brouillette is the Treasurer of the Muscogee Democrats.

L-E story on the MCSD: "The board approved parameters recommended by Superintendent Susan Andrews for setting the budget for the 2013 fiscal year. The budget guidelines include retaining an operating millage rate at 23.37 mils, if possible, while maintaining a 16-day fund balance," -- "16 day fund balance"? No wonder most of our kids have no idea how to operate once they leave high school... the MCSD has too little money set aside for maintenance & depreciation, and a fund balance equivalent to depending on the next paycheck.
---
The Expedia civil suit has not been necessary; it's just a tool for the lawyers involved. The City could have filed a criminal complaint, and the State's prosecutor could have gone after Expedia for not reporting/paying the proper amount of sales taxes. Expedia is responsible for accurately reporting its sales and collecting/submitting the proper taxes on such amounts.
---
Thank goodness Council was unanimous of handling the overturn of the Personnel Review Board. Hope Council reviews the members of that board and makes further unanimous decisions.
---
Bob Beckel, political opportunist, DIM&DUMBERat analyst/strategist, and cynical liberal Fox News commentator, was irritated at Newt Gingrich describing potUS O'Blather as 'the most dangerous president of modern times'. I don't think I remember any DIM&DUMBERat analyst/strategist ever being upset at similar descriptions of Barry Goldwater or Newt Gingrich as presidential candidates. Guess we have to consider the source of the comments, and Newt is by far the better history analyst.

L-E headline: "ALABAMA LEGISLATURE * House passes ban of texting while driving" -- Have you seen the teenaged texting language? Who'da thunk that being dyslexic would make you a language expert?

WRBL3 headline: "Columbus Police chase stolen ambulance" -- Wonder how the police knew it was stolen...maybe no lawyer's car was following it?
---
L-E story: "A Columbus police officer discovered vandals over the weekend damaged four Chattahoochee RiverWalk lights, a frequent target. * A cost of the damage was not listed on the police report. * About a year ago, Georgia Power officials estimated that it costs $300 to replace one globe." --. Surely there is another alternative to $300.00 per unit breakable glass globes. It might be wise to see who owns the glass globe supplier company; maybe somebody else at GA Power has another brother-in-law than the obvious situation of being in the $300.00 per unit fixture business.
---
From Chuck William's commentary: "From this project’s (whitewater) initial discussions in 1999, one of the top selling points has been that removing the Eagle & Phenix Dam and the City Mills Dam would eliminate two small impoundments in the Chattahoochee and return the river to a more natural state. * Jim Phillips, the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper at the time, summed up the project’s goal in a 2002 newspaper interview: “Restore the natural flow of the river.” Many others have said similar things along the way. * They are building the ultimate amusement park ride. * But let’s be frank -- just as the river was altered by 19th Century industrialists, it is being altered again. * And as it was then, the driving force is economic development." -- Being "frank" again, what part of returning the river to its 'more natural state' is going to be understood by the area's fish and bird community as kayakers splash around, and spectators congregate around the shoreline?
---
Hmmm, Speaking of the Marshal's Office and Mrs Bishops, was the IRS ever contacted about her son-in-law's checks from the Jr. Marshal's program being deposited into Mrs Bishop's personal checking account?
---
From L-E story: "Three local leaders were also honored during the breakfast with Legacy Awards." -- One of these was Margaret Jenkins. Only Margaret Jenkins would feel Margaret Jenkins didn't deserve such an award. That's the reason Margaret Jenkins is so deserving.
---
Liberal's L-E "soundoff": " In case you never read anything except comic books and the National Enquirer, I'll tell you what happened to paying your own way in college: Tuition of $10,000-$50,000 per year. " -- Well, it's not the students that have run up the cost of tuition (in fact, with more attending, the cost per student should be going down); and it's obvious, from the depth of the unemployment lines and 'Occupy" troops, that the colleges and universities have not kept the value of an education in step with the rising costs.
---
potUS O'Blather is now championing the returning vets who need jobs.. wonder what he was saying behind their backs when he downsized the Army by 80,000 +/- after the Iraq pull out?
---
potUS O'Blather also says he's 'doing everything he can' to bring down the price of oil. Hmmm, like eliminating the 80,000 or so jobs becoming available to build the Keystone XL pipeline? Me thinks potUS O'Blather may be right on one thing though... about him doing EVERYTHING he can; he's doing everything he can but he's just not capable of getting the job done.
---
Was saddened to hear of CMOH awardee Col Robert B. Nett, Jr's death. He was a fine man and role model, and his valor and humbleness will live with us forever.
---
It's revealing that now that NJ Nets' Jeremy Lin has become a celebrity nationwide, that the non-politically correct 'slurs' now being reported were swept under the carpet when he was at Harvard. Hmmm, don't tell me there was racial/cultural intolerance amongst the elite schools of the Ivy League. Now who can we trust to carry in banner of fairness and quality and cultural tolerance... hypocrites!

Online headline: "NYT Book Review Sparks Outrage * 2 words that made readers angry" -- Ooops, my bad. The reviewer clled the vook "chick nonfiction"; I thought the two words might have been

Online story: "MADRID, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Hundreds of thousands of people protested across Spain on Sunday against reforms to the labour market they fear will destroy workers' rights and spending cuts they say are destroying the welfare state. * Organisers, including the two largest unions Comisiones Obreras and UGT, said as many as half a million people joined the protest in 57 towns and cities, although Spanish police gave no official estimate. * Spain's new government began its four-year term in December with tax hikes and spending cuts worth around 15 billion euros ($19.74 billion) and must cut another around 40 billion to meet tough deficit targets set by the EU." -- Looks like the union-effect is a world wide problem. Look what making $55 billion Euros (about $72 Billion US dollars - 1/10th of the T.A.R.P. bailout) in cuts does to the unions. On the other hand, if we taxpayers could turn things around for a 'mere' $72 Billion, we would feel relieved for the future of our children.

L-E story: "When Columbus Council convenes Tuesday in a special called session, it will more closely resemble a trial than a regular council meeting. * The 9 a.m. meeting will be a public hearing at which Mayor Teresa Tomlinson will ask council to overturn a recent decision by the city’s Personnel Review Board. The board overruled Muscogee County Prison Warden Dwight Hamrick’s decision to fire Lt. Little Lynn, who was dismissed primarily for having a sexual affair with a subordinate, Correctional Officer Angela Askew." -- If this isn't a 10-0 vote, then we should all support any opposition running against the 'no' voters in their next election.
---
Has anyone put together a report/recap of all the 'exempt' from property tax properties in Columbus? Why are not these properties at least responsible for some minimum fee for police/fire protection and street maintenance?
---
Gasoline is setting a nation-wide record, not one we support or rejoice in, but nevertheless, a record.....for the highest prices ever for this time of the year! What does this bode for Memorial Day and the 4th of July weekends? Looks like potUS O'Blather may just get his much wanted $5.00 a gallon gasoline.
---
Moderate/Liberal L-E "soundoff": "I don’t think free contraception is necessarily a bad thing. If we can stop the reproduction of little liberals, we might stand a chance in this country." -- Moderates don't get it that they are the main problem with elections...they feign being responsible but vote the other way too often. It's not about 'free contraception", it's about the government taking control of another area of personal responsibility. If the government really wanted to preach contraception, it would insist on neutering men and women who enroll in the system as their main source of income.
---
From the L-E "Today in History" feature: "On this date: In 1792, President George Washington signed an act creating the U.S. Post Office. " -- Hmm, so how does the Post Office honor George Washington..... by not delivering the mail on his holiday.
---
L-E story: "JERUSALEM — The U.S. and Britain on Sunday urged Israel not to attack Iran’s nuclear program as the White House’s national security adviser arrived in the region, reflecting growing international jitters that the Israelis are poised to strike. " -- After being thrown under the bus by potUS O'Blather & Co, why should Israel give a whit about what potUS O'Blather thinks?
---
L-E story: "The Rev. Roy Bourgeois of Columbus said he was arrested Sunday by the U.S. Border Patrol during a protest in El Paso, Texas, but charges were dropped and there will be no prosecution." -- Why would the L-E bestow Coumbus citizen status on Reverend Roy? On another aspect, why didn't Reverend Roy cross into Mexico instead, and get arrested there where he would remain indefinitely?

Online story: "Obama's Butt Grabbed? Photo Suggests Woman Grabbed President's Rear End" -- Will someone please find this woman and tell her if the opportunity arises again, she should kick it rather than ;goose; it.
---
Online media bias - "Headlie": "The Hidden $1,000 Bonus Obama Put in Your Paycheck" -- WRONG! Congress voted to keep the tax cuts initiated by Bush43 intact! potUS O'Blather tried his damndest to let them expire in his first year, but then used them to get other taxes/fees/regulations passed along with the continued Bush43 tax cut extensions.
---
Reality check: The Republicans have never been against extending the Bush43 tax cuts. They have fought to keep them without passing DIM&DUMBERat amendments that would add more misery to the working Americans.
---
L-E headline: "FALLING THROUGH THE CRACKS * Suspect in Cusseta double homicide has history of troubles, second chances" -- I think it's going to take a class action suit by area citizens against the judges and lawyers who failed to protect citizens by not enforcing the full sentences this man (et al) has avoided by poor sentencing and incarceration follow up. Some criminals do merit a second chance, but surely not third or fourth ones.
---
The whitewater project started out as a vision to restore the Chattahoochee to it's pre-dams state of the early years of Columbus... quite a worthy project. It has matriculated into a commercial endeavor of a contrived/manufactured water flow that has nothing to do with restoring the Chattahoochee.... that's sad.
---
L-E headline: "More public schools dish up 3 meals a day" -- Just the continuing effort of the government to take over the parenting job of children which in turn, assures that the children of these children will expect the same."
---
Liberal L-E "soundoff": "President Obama has turned the economy around significantly. New house purchases are up, unemployment is at the lowest figure since before Bush left office, and disposable income is higher thanks to the payroll tax cut. " -- I've missed voting in only two elections in my life. Once when I was in a hospital , and once on my honeymoon (a runoff election). I will never get sick or do anything else that will keep me out of the polls again to offset this idiots vote! I do not like referring to people as idiots, but there was no other word I knew that could define this 'soundoff' writer.
---
L-E's "Late laughs": "Conan O’Brien * A GROUP of Democratic fundraisers is offering a dinner with the president for $35,000. Unfortunately, the only person in America who can afford it is Mitt Romney." -- Why is potUS O'Blather wanting to force more taxes on "the wealthy", and at the same time accept $35,000.00 contributions from such who will only support him if he doesn't tax them more?

Online headline: "Justice Department Will No Longer Defend Law Blocking Military Benefits For Same-Sex Couples " -- For the first time, I do believe we are going to have to push an amendment to the US Constitution defining marriage.
---
I also am starting to believe that we were forced to have an elected vs appointed school board (I know Columbus voted for it, BUT even if Columbus had voted "NO", state law mandated it the following year), then once the MCSD board has selected a School Superintendent, then we voters should be able to vote on keeping or firing the Superintendent every 2 years.
---
Dimon Kendrick-Holmes is becoming a pretty good writer.. I do buy 20 quick-picks when the lottery gets so high because I figure that the computer will give me 20 numbers that haven't been chosen by those who have earnestly, even diligently, taken the time to fill out the forms, so if someone does win, and it's me, then I probably won't have to share it (except of course with my wife and fed & state tax collectors)
---
No matter how you parse the perceived shortcomings or the politics of Columbus, Columbus is a great place to live and raise a family. Columbus is big enough to have one of most anything that interests you, and close enough to Atlanta is you want more choices for a moment. In addition, we're but 4 hours to the Gulf and 4 hours to the mountains of North Carolina.
---
Congress should have passed the Bush tax cut extensions on their own merits instead of stealing billions from the Social Security system.
---
When potUS O'Blather goes out on a 'promotion tour' publicized as to 'promote' exports, unions, or education, the only thing he is really 'promoting' is himself at taxpayer expense.
---
There's a commentary in the L-E today by a college professor and college student parsing the lack of international diplomacy experience of our past presidents. That's funny when you think about the co-authors not having any experience in international diplomacy NOR a real, non-government funded job/lifestyle.
---
The latest from www.barackobama.com: "Your Truth Team tipsheet" -- Man, is this not well named...."Your Truth"... yeah as potUS O'Blather's re-election team wants you to accept 'truth' whether it's true or not to others.
---
Once again, why are early voting polls open for a primary? Primaries are actually private entities of the two main political parties, not open to the general public.
---
Political analysts are now taking a look at popularity poll increases for potUS O'Blather with a disbelieving eye, but it makes sense since potUS O'Blather is flying under the radar as media and Republican candidates are focused on dismembering other Republican candidates. In reality, as soon as the American people can get another unobstructed view of potUS O'Blather, his popularity will wain again.

Online story: "Conservative Christian groups are outraged that a school decided a lunch a preschooler's mother prepared was not healthy enough and replaced it with chicken nuggets. * The elementary school in Raeford, North Carolina, decided the four-year-old's lunch -- which consisted of a turkey-and-cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice -- did not meet nutritional standards established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Why? Because it did not contain a vegetable." -- Told you yesterday about the Michigan Principals Group representative demanding that schools know better than parents about what's good for the children, and now this. All for the lack of a pickle or lettuce on a turkey sandwich, government confiscated a child's lunch, substituted it with fried processed chicken parts, AND...AND sent a bill home with the child for the school lunch! Unfortunately, this is not an isolated situation, and can occur here in MCSD.

Online headline: "CNN Cancels Debate After Mitt Romney And Ron Paul Pull Out " -- Oh, like anyone would be watching CNN anyway.
---
L-E story: "In spite of the progress made in American race relations, particularly in the South, there is still considerable racial bias in this society, much of it entrenched in institutions and evident in public policy. * That’s the opinion of Chester Hartman, director of research for the Poverty & Race Research Action Council in Washington, who spoke Thursday night at the North Columbus Library. * About 30 people attended the first of a yearlong series of gatherings called “Conversation on Race,” co-sponsored by the Southern Anti-Racism Network and One Columbus. * “It’s obviously foolish to deny that there’s been a lack of progress, especially in the South,” Hartman, an author and urban planner, told the crowd at the North Columbus Library branch. “But there’s still an enormous amount of racism around.” -- "30 people attended"? By the time you discount media, politicians, and those still seeking ways to profit from being a 'victim', there were probably 'zero' concerned citizens there. Yes, there are still bigots here and everywhere else in the country/world, but these bigots are not limited to white skin.

NEW YORK, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Officials say a Queens, N.Y., elementary school teacher may lose her job for allegedly having her students write holiday cards to her boyfriend in jail. * Melissa Dean allegedly told her students at P.S. 143 they were going to make cards for someone who was lonely over the holidays. That someone was John Coccarelli, 33, who is serving prison time on charges of violating a restraining order filed against him by his ex-wife, the New York Post reported. * Coccarelli's criminal record raises particular alarms for parents, as he was arrested and charged in the past for possession of child pornography," -- "may lose her job"? In New York, that means she will be pulled out of the classroom, and she go to a dayroom with other fired teachers while being paid (including annual raises) until she's reached retirement age.

A more than worthy L-E "soundoff": "At your expense * Democrats want everyone to stay out of their bedrooms and mind their own business when it comes to paying for their birth control. What a bunch of hypocrites." -- Well said.

L-E story: "WASHINGTON — Kids have easy and inexpensive access to hundreds of smartphone applications, but parents are in the dark about what personal information is being collected from their children and how companies are using the data, government regulators said Thursday. Looking at pictures of at the scene where Leo Scott killed himself, why were so many law enforcement personnel needed there? The rest of the City must have been pretty much void of police presence.

L-E headline: "Curb the auto dashboard technology, government asks " -- Is this the same government that owns such a stake in Government Motors? For the past 4 years, I've been looking for a full sized sedan that will fit me and 3 or 4 friends of like size. All I want in it are power steering/brakes/locks/windows and a good AM/FM radio (maybe a single CD player). I have a cell phone with GPS/Navigation, and do not want a car that talks to/at me, heats my rear end, or parks for me. I may have to buy a 1960s 'parade float' to get this.

---
Seen on TV news: A Michigan principals' group representative told an investigative committee that teachers know more than parents about what's good for their children. Well, according to the way our local school district wants year round schools, to feed them year round, and to be responsible for taking them to and from school, I'd say the MCSD agrees with the Michigan group.

Why is it when unions go on strike, it's about corporate greed; but in reality, it's really about union greed with little or no concern about the cost consumers will pay,
---

I am a firm believer that the only reason that Tim Geithner is still the Secretary of Treasury is because potUS O'Blather simply cannot find another person of credibility who will take the job and be the puppet for saying what potUS O'Blather wants the Secretary to say concerning the financial woes his administration has created.

Can you believe that the EPA has commissioned (and paid for) interviews with 5,000 people concerning playing in the sand at the beaches, and the results published are, "You should wash your hands whenever you have played in the sand." From the "of yeah, take that department'! - From a fellow BCer:
'OCCUPY GOLF 99% MOVEMENT'

...WE GOLFERS NEED TO BE HEARD!

I am a member of golf's 99%. I play golf when I feel like it, but have not yet made it to the professional level. I have played the game for over 20 years, but have not really put in the practice time and study to be the best. I also probably do not have the skills to really get there either, and let's face it, I'm kind of lazy.

However, in light of political correctness and the new liberal morality espoused by the Federal Government, I now feel I should be paid by the successful dedicated Golf Professionals for my effort. It isn't fair those players who have worked harder, have studied the game, have better equipment and are stronger and more skilled should make all that BIG money. Where's my share? Oh sure, they have their charities they give millions of dollars to, but I am sure they write all that off on their tax returns to reduce paying their fair share. Is that fair?

They should pay for my golf, buy me new equipment and pay me some of their winnings. The whole system should be changed to accommodate people like me who have not been as lucky as those millionaire golfers! Let's occupy a golf course and demand those who are better at what they do pay for us who aren't as good.

This should get us something, like media attention and sympathy!

Lin’s face was posted above a broken fortune cookie with the words “The Knicks Good Fortune” on a sheet of paper."
-- Other than a less than attractive picture of 'Linsanity', why would Lin be upset at this? He's being celebrated for his skills and recognized for his heritage. Political Correctness is robbing Lin of his moment in the spotlight. Shame on the liberals!!!

No matter how much Government Motors pushes the "VOLT", $5.00 gas won't just hurt the sales, it will relegate the "VOLT" to car history like the Edsel. Even with its electric operated first 35/40 miles, once the 'VOLT' starts running on gasoline, the 'extended range' is only about 300 miles because of the small 10 gallon gas tank. Do the math: On a vacation trip, a 'VOLT' already would have to be stopped to fill up every 300 miles (or less since the second fill up would get no assistance from the first 35/40 miles being propelled by battery) at $35.00 at $3.50 a gallon, but at $5.00 a gallon, you'd be feeding the 'VOLT" $50.00 every 300 miles. That will get old pretty fast. Instead of looking at a 'staycation' again this summer, 'VOLT' owners will be looking at a "stay-close-to-the house" vacation.

L-E story: "Besieged by international sanctions over the Iranian nuclear program including a planned oil embargo by Europe, Iran warned six European buyers Wednesday that it might strike first by immediately cutting them off from Iranian oil." -- Wow! If he had opened up more drilling rather than shutting down the American oil drilling businesses, America would be in position to send oil to Europe, and that would create even more jobs here!

L-E "soundoff": "The main difference * A Democratic politician looks at your wallet as half-full but a Republican politician looks at your wallet as half-empty." -- Close, but no banana. L-E headline: "Human, humanoid robot shake hands in space for the first time" -- Has 'political correctness' digressed so far that it's historical that a robot shake hands with a human at all? From the picture, it seems this "hysterical, uh, historical, moment" was lily-white, so I guess it will be even bigger news, and more hysterical, uh historical, when a black robot shakes a human's hand. As Charlie Brown might comment..."Good Grief!" As for me, I cannot wait until 'political correctness' is buried in a landfill forever.

L-E story: "DETROIT — Lexus is the top performer in a survey of vehicle dependability released Wednesday, but most other brands also showed improvement in an industry that has reached historically high dependability levels. Online headline/story: " Student Bra Search Case Reaches North Carolina Supreme Court * RALEIGH, N.C. — A student who had to pull her bra away from her body so school officials could check whether she was hiding drugs must have been humiliated and frightened by the unreasonable search, her lawyer told the North Carolina Supreme Court on Monday. An attorney for the state argued the search was minimally invasive * "It is unconstitutional for our daughters to be treated this way by the public schools of North Carolina," attorney Geeta Kapur told the state's highest court. * Assistant Attorney General LaToya Powell said the search was minimally invasive because no skin was shown. "By doing this, absolutely no body parts were exposed," she said. * During the search, a white powder identified as Percocet and drug paraphernalia were found on the student. " -- This is what has happened since the courts gave minor students "rights", and another reason 99% of lawyers give the other 1% a bad reputation.

L-E headline/story: "CITY COUNCIL TO PONDER $11M BUDGET INCREASE * The increased spending would be financed with funds left over from the fiscal 2011 budget in several areas, according to city Finance Director Pam Hodge." -- Hey, that's not your money, it's the taxpayers, and if a department doesn't spend all its money, the Department Head should get a praise (and maybe even a raise), BUT that money shouldn't be redirected to areas that can't/didn't meet their budget constraints. Repay those 'saved' funds into the Fund Balance.

Columbia University may release potUS O'Blather's math grades just to prove he didn't learn math at Columbia. potUS O'Blather's call for insurance companies to eat the cost of providing employees coverage for abortions and birth control at Catholic Institutions is an insult to reason and logic. Insurance companies may appear to comply, but everyone, including the Columbia math department, knows that the cost of such coverage will just be added into the coast of other coverages.

potUS O'Blather sent out the former chief of the Budget Office to explain why his new budget (a.k.a. budget busting spending spree) will not pass the Senate. The former Budget manager said that those wascally Wepublicans will block it in the Senate because it takes 60 votes and there are only 53 DIM&DUMBERats in the Senate. WRONGO...sure there are only 53 D&Ds BUT it only takes 50 of those to pass the budget (in a 50/50 deal, VP Biden has a tie breaker vote).

George Cady's latter is right on, but even he has missed what has happened. L-E story: "ATLANTA — President Barack Obama’s proposed fiscal year 2013 budget includes $2.8 million towards the $600 million project to deepen the Port of Savannah, one of the nation’s busiest. Online headline: "Mitt Romney Backed Earmarks As Governor " -- Oh, so now a governor requesting federal tax dollars to be sent back to it's taxpayers themselves is an 'earmark'. There are no 'earmarks' except those voted on to send by Congress. The secret to ending 'earmarks' is to eliminate taxing people in excess so that Congress doesn't have money that should have stayed within the states themselves.

It's amazing that the City thinks Spring Harbor should be paying property taxes, and at the same time, doesn't think CSU should pay any taxes on its school building in the downtown area. From the "media bias" department - L-E headline story: "Obama’s budget heads to Congress * Obama’s spending blueprint for the budget year that begins Oct. 1 projects a deficit for this year of $1.33 trillion. That would mean four straight years of trillion-dollar-plus deficits. * While administration officials on Sunday defended the plan as a balanced approach, Republicans belittled the effort as a repeat of failed policies that did too little to attack soaring costs in such programs as Medicare and threatened growth by raising taxes. " -- "balanced approach"? At best, potUS O'Blather sent over a 'spending plan, not a budget. Sure Republicans wail, and I'm glad they do, but the story not told by the media is that this, like the previous 'budget plans', will not see the light of day in the Reid Senate.
---
From the 'rose-tinted glasses' department: L-E headline: "Al-Qaida complicates issue by backing Syrian revolt, by Elizabeth A. Kennedy" -- "Complicates"? Al Qaida has been "complicated" in every Mid-East skirmish/riot. Was Ms Kennedy one of CNN's ("see no evil, hear no evil, report no evil") anchors in Baghdad who didn't report the Saddam Hussein atrocities so they would stay on Hussein's party list?
---
L-E headline/story: "Police: Georgia man fatally shoots 16-year-old stepson * The teenager, whose name was not immediately released, was shot three times with a 12-gauge shotgun after the argument," -- Can't you see the public defender's plea argument? No, not accidental, but justified homicide?

For those not educated in recent public education, today is actually Abe Lincoln's birthday. FTR, no one called attention to yesterday's misstatement q:-)

L-E headline/story: "Poll: Georgia evangelicals, very conservatives favor Newt Gingrich * Editor’s note: The Ledger-Enquirer received this story through the Georgia Newspaper Partnership * In addition to evangelical Christians and very conservative voters, Gingrich especially appeals to rural voters, residents of north Georgia, those with less than a college education and those with incomes below $50,000." -- This last sentence demonstrates media bias to a "T". In a poll that specifies was "97% white, men and women were equally represented. About half were college graduates. 59% said their annual income was $50,000.00 or more", the reporter HAD to highlight that those who hold on tight to their Bibles and guns were Gingrich's strength as though it was a negative.
---
L-E headline: "PRISON SCANDAL * Investigation of Muscogee Co. Prison uncovers gross misconduct by staff, abuse and sexual relationships" -- Just proves the point that when good people are thrown into a negative environment, the negative environment will probably rub off on the good people, and not vice versa.
---
Liberal's L-E "soundoff": "For 60 years Elizabeth has been Queen of England. Wouldn’t it be nice if Obama could be president for 60 years?" -- Only if we lived in England.

L-E's "Thought for Today": “Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still.” — President Harry S. Truman (1884-1972). " -- And in potUS O'Blather's case, where their is negative leadership, society disintegrates.
---
L-E's "Late laughs": "David Letterman: "NEWT GINGRICH says that people who ride on subways here in New York are the elite. I was on the subway today and one of the elites sitting next to me was smoking crack." -- What he failed to connect is that the elite crack smoker was probably his first guest of the evening.

NCLB is being relegated to "file 13". If the CRCT isn't to educators liking, then change acronyms rather than results. At least the latest acronym, "CCRPI" looks like it would be pronounced like the results of the CRCT, "Crappy".

McClatchy online headline: "Obama budget projects $1.3 TRILLION DEFICIT this year" -- "budget"? I think "disaster" is a better name for it. On the other hand, it is an election year, and $1.3 trillion dollars will buy an awful lot of ACORNS.

WTVM9 headline: "Sandusky says he feels people have turned on him" -- Boy does he have a warped imagination...after his arrest, NO ONE will turn another cheek to him.

As long as the school system treats poverty as a disease rather than as an opportunity, the results will not improve. One only has to look how poverty seems to be a driving force in athletics to understand kids are wanting something better and do respond to the stimuli of a way out of it.

Too bad potUS O'Blather's birth control wishes weren't practiced by his mother.

Liberal's L-E "soundoff": "A conservative friend of mine hit his thumb with a hammer and instantly blamed President Obama. " -- And deservedly so! After all, the conservative probably tried to find a carpenter, but all the carpentry businesses had closed, and the union carpenters didn't want to take the job and risk losing their 99 weeks of unemployment checks.

Looking at the state of public education in all 50 (57 for you potUS O'Blather voters) states and looking back at its history of digression, one thing stands out, and that is the ever increasing political involvement/intrusion. Let's get rid of elected school boards and federal regulations.
---
Looking back at the constant downhill trend of the public school system, you'll find a fixed correlation with LBJ's "War on Poverty' being 'turbo-charged' by the establishment of the Department of Education under Cuzzin Jimmy Carter.
---
If Congress is looking for a way to pay for a tax cut, eliminating the Department of Education and its past regulations should allow for an even bigger tax cut.
---
With a tip of my hat to Joan Rivers, 'can we talk'? If public schools were doing a better, no, even an adequate job, then we wouldn't be seeing the growth of private, charter, religion-based, or home schooling locally or nationally.
---
Let's face it, some parents would send their children to private school no matter what, but why are middle income homeowners sacrificing to send their children to private school as well as paying the property taxes to fund public schools?
---
If potUS O'Blather wants to make birth control mandatory in all institutions, he should push for the one tried and true method...JUST SAY NO! There are probably tons of Nancy Reagan inspired T-shirts left over from her drug control campaign that potUS O'Blather can distribute
---
If, as Smokey the Bear claims, 9 out of 10 'wildfires' are caused by humans, why are they called 'wildfires'?

The TSA has announced it will be relaxing some of the inspection regulations at some airports. BRILLIANT....NOT!!! Now real terrorists will know which airports will be less likely to stop them from getting on an airplane.

'Politically Correct'...what a bigoted term! What it really means is you can only laugh at another person's gaffe or embarrassing moment if that person is a white, Christian, Conservative male.

A roundabout at one of the highest foot traffic parts of town? Council must be pulling an early April Fool's joke. Why would you want to put a constant motion vehicle intersection at an intersection that separates a school and the City's favorite park for walking and entertaining children?

Remember when the "whitewater project" was about restoring the Chattahoochee to its natural state which would bring rafters/kayakers here to enjoy what has been curtailed by the dams for years? Now its about the money. Too bad.

A bit of practical info passed on by a fellow BCer:
Subject: Mayo Clinic & Aspirin
Mayo Clinic on Aspirin Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon, Somers said. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame. 1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night. The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system. 2. FYI, Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest for years, (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar). Please read on. Something that we can do to help ourselves - nice to know. Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets. Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It's about Heart Attacks - There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently. Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack. The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep. If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water. Afterwards: - Call 911. - Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by. - Say "heart attack!" - Say that you have taken 2 Aspirins. - Take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and ...DO NOT LIE DOWN! A Cardiologist has stated that, if each person, after receiving this e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life could be saved! I have already shared this information. What about you? Do forward this message. It may save lives!

Online headline/story: "AP, via US Air Force * Air Force Removes 'God' From Logo * Dozens of members of Congress are upset that the Air Force has removed the Latin word for "God" from the logo of an Air Force acquisitions office. * According to the lawmakers, all members of the bipartisan prayer caucus, the RCO ( Rapid Capabilities Office) patch logo previously included the motto "Opus Dei Cum Pecunia Alienum Efficemus" (Doing God's Work with Other People's Money), an inside joke among RCO members. Caucus members say it was changed to "Miraculi Cum Pecunia Alienum Efficemus" (Doing Miracles with Other People's Money). * Jason Torpy, president of the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers, said the word "God" had no place in the logo because not all members of the military are religious. * The letter argues that "courts consistently have upheld the constitutionality of our national motto, 'In God We Trust,' despite the obvious mention of God." * "Obviously the Constitution doesn't treat God like a dirty word," said Luke Goodrich, deputy general counsel of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. "Religion is a part of this history." -- Well, for my money, OUR money, I think every pilot who doesn't want God as their "co-pilot" should be grounded immediately; it's like driving a car with no insurance!

Online headline: "House Votes To Give Obama Power Of Line-Item Veto" -- It won't get to the floor of the DIM&DUMBERat Senate, but it sure would aggravate potUS O'Blather. On the other hand, a good administrator would jump for joy with the idea.

From L-E story: "Crews Wednesday morning were working below the Eagle & Phenix dam on a metal structure that will regulate the river’s flow" -- Combined with temporary walls, concrete filled bags and "mattresses", concrete channels, and moving/adding boulders, nothing sounds like the original proposal of basically restoring the riverbed to it natural condition.

L-E headline: "Suspects sought for using counterfeit money" -- The sad thing is counterfeit money is probably worth as much as the money the US Mint is distributing.

The Quote of the Decade: "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Online story: " former nurse left in her will her $400,000 condo to the homeless, asking for it to be turned into a shelter * She specified that if the 525-square-foot condo wasn't suitable for a shelter, the city could sell it and use the money to fight homelessness" -- Aside from the protest I'm sure her condo-owners's association is sure to put up, this just highlights WHY there's a major homeless problem in Modesto, CA; imagine owning a $400,000.00 mortgage on 21 X 25 shed?
---
L-E headline/story: "Judge denies aging appeal in 1994 death penalty case * (Ward Anthony) Brockman, meanwhile, claimed the gun discharged accidentally after Lynn failed to hand over his cash." -- "gun discharges accidentally"? L-E story: "SAN FRANCISCO — Same-sex marriage moved one step closer to the Supreme Court on Tuesday when a federal appeals court ruled California’s ban unconstitutional, saying it serves no purpose other than to “lessen the status and human dignity” of gays. L-E story: "Woods: Change rule about long putters * “My idea was to have it so that the putter would be equal to or less than the shortest club in your bag,” Woods said. The Mayor, and the previous mayor making the same attempt, looks only at what appears to be a huge windfall tax increase on all older 'frozen' homes. That might be more, OK, some, positive public response if Mayor Obamalinson approached the matter with diplomacy. For a simple comparison, my neighbor's home is similar in size to mine, but was bought years before me. His taxes this past year were about $3,100.00 and mine were over $5,200.00. I'm not interested, nor would get any satisfaction if he had his taxes raised to $5,200.00, but if a plan were devised that we both paid an equal amount (say $4,150.00,) and there was a reasonable plan by the City for what the City would do in the future about controlling increases, we both would probably listen to such a plan. (Of course getting me to vote against the uncertainty of paying more in the future than I do now would get a resounding "NO" at the polls)

Liberal's L-E "soundoff": " If Obama needs to prove to the state of Georgia where he was born, then everyone in Georgia needs to prove where they were born. No exceptions and no fake papers. Government Motors paid for at least 6 ads in the Super Bowl. 6 ads at $3.5 Million each is a total of $21 Million paid to GE. That's the same GE that paid no - nada - zilch in corporate income taxes last year, The same GE supporting the demise of incandescent light bulbs. The same GE who's chairman was the lead advisor to potUS O'Blather's economic plan. Oh, and GM want sell anymore VOLT vehicles than idf no GM ads were run at all.

Rick Santorum is losing it.. big time! Now he's campaigning that he's the only Republican that can beat potUS O'Blather. A Des Moines, Iowa high school teacher has given his students an assignment comparing Communism vs Capitalism, which would be OK if the teacher provided neutral data, but this is not the case. Yesterday around 9:45, I drove past a seeming traffic stop on 2nd Ave (near 19th Street), but there was quite a spectacle going on. There was a red SUV pulled up in a drive way, and 4, count them, 4 police vehicle pulled up behind it on the street. None of the officers had a gun pulled so I assumed it must not be an obvious danger situation. As I thought about that, I figured that for 4 police vehicles, lights-a-flashing, to be there at one time, either traffic offenders elsewhere were having a field day, or some sort of speed trap was being held on 2nd Ave to arrest the church crowd heading downtown.

From the "John Lovitz (yeah, that's the ticket) collection of excuses" department: "In a phone interview on Friday, defense attorney Rob Poydasheff said Sonya Eddings diverted funds that haven’t yet been found, and portrayed Michael Eddings, his client, as an unwitting victim who entrusted the firm’s finances to his wife. * “He did have preventive measures to try to prevent fraud, but she circumvented them,” Poydasheff said. “He is doing everything he can to rectify the situation. He wants to make everybody whole. * “There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding exactly what she did, how she did it and above all why she did it,” he added. " -- I'm sure the jury will buy this excuse, but if it has any semblance of truth, did he trust his wife to run the household accounts as well? If he did, hope she cleaned him out yesterday after this interview.

Just when I began to believe there was a limit to the stupidity of liberals, another one spouted off in the L-E "soundoff": "The arms race and defense spending caused the economic collapse of the Soviet Union. Michael Eddings and Tim Chitwood must think today is "Bash Your Wife Day". Wouldn't wanna be Michael or Tim the rest of the day.

30 years ago, I had no idea that I would be paying in excess of $5,000.00 (over $6K when you add in vehicles) annually in property taxes in addition to the LOSTs and periodic SPLOSTs that plague our economic recovery. Mayor Obamalinson is not interested in making property taxes more equitable, she's only calculating how much windfall tax revenue would become available for her and Council to spend if everyone paid top tax on top assessments. If Mayor Obamalinson were concerned about the growth and prosperity of the community, she would come up with a plan that would include reductions for the more recent home purchasers as well as the increases to older purchases. She should offer a plan that recalculates the existing home property tax receipts by the new assessments to all home properties which should raise older homes taxes and lower newer homes taxes. Once equity is demonstrated, she might get a few folks to agree with her.

Why are retired NFLers griping about head injuries from the past? Did anyone hold a gun to them to make them sign lucrative contracts? Did anyone of them think professional level football would be less contact than college level? Of course, the FL could possibly help stem some of the contact injuries by eliminating the use of helmets and pads. Wait a minute, isn't that how they play rugby and Aussie Rule football?

What are the 'educators' in Valdosta thinking! No, make that 'feeling' since obviously the 'educators' have not thought through the consequences of telling students they can retake tests until they pass. If this were done when I was in school, the students would have figured out that if we just signed our names to a blank sheet of paper (or intentionally missed the questions), we'd never have to do homework the rest of the time we were in school.
---
Tell you what...the taxpayers in Valdosta should revolt and force the school system to put every child who fails a test a second time into one large classroom (auditorium/gym) and make the Superintendent teach that class on condition that his job will be terminated if any of those students fail to 'pass' the CRCT.

GM/Chevy. which sold only about 600 "Chevy VOLT" vehicles in January, is spending $3,500,000.00 on a Super Bowl ad for the "VOLT". That's over $5,800.00 per January "VOLT" it sold. They would probably sell a lot more just by reducing the cost of a "VOLT" by $5,000.00 and make more profit to pay us back with.

L-E headline/story: "Michael Curry's appeal: Evidence too weak for guilty verdict to stand * ((Public defender Robert) Wadkins’ primary argument is the evidence simply was insufficient to prove Curry’s guilt, and Allen should have granted a defense motion for a directed verdict of acquittal." -- What's Wadkins trying to do...establish that his own defense was so inefficient that he couldn't convince 1 of 12 people to agree with him? L-E headline/story: "Authorities believe wrecked school bus was driven by juveniles *The driver of a stolen school bus that struck four parked vehicles on Thursday night may have been a middle-school-aged child, according to reports. * In response to the theft, a Muscogee County School District official said he was discontinuing the practice of allowing drivers to keep their keys on the bus." -- "allowing drivers to keep their keys on the bus"? Liberal's L-E "soundoff": "Remember that the Democratic-controlled Senate has not passed a budget because of the filibustering obstructionist Republicans." -- How quickly (and conveniently) DIM&DUMBERats forget that in the first and the second year of potUS O'Blather's administration, the Senate had a filibuster-proof majority of non-Republicans. L-E "headlie": "Komen reverses grant decision * Organization drops plan to cut funding to Planned Parenthood" -- WRONG! L-E headline/story: "Man tries unsuccessfully to plead guilty in deaths * DECATUR — A public defender entered a not guilty plea for his client even though the man said he wanted to plead guilty in the stabbing deaths of three members of his family." -- This is exactly what's wrong with the public defender system. The public defender could have allowed justice to proceed, but it would mean the public defender couldn't bill/get paid for more work.

potUS O'Blather is now quoting scripture to justify his tax wants. He even used [Luke 12:48] "To whom much is given is much required." -- Well potUS O'Blather, you have been given way too much and you're nowhere near returning what we require.

Christina Preston has really embarrassed her longtime Columbus family, as well, for sure.

Guess we can expect a Jim Mustian 3-day recap next February... maybe even a Valentine spread.
