Online headline: "NYT Book Review Sparks Outrage * 2 words that made readers angry" -- Ooops, my bad. The reviewer clled the vook "chick nonfiction"; I thought the two words might have been
'incompetent socialists'.
---
Online story: "MADRID, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Hundreds of thousands of people protested across Spain on Sunday against reforms to the labour market they fear will destroy workers' rights and spending cuts they say are destroying the welfare state. * Organisers, including the two largest unions Comisiones Obreras and UGT, said as many as half a million people joined the protest in 57 towns and cities, although Spanish police gave no official estimate. * Spain's new government began its four-year term in December with tax hikes and spending cuts worth around 15 billion euros ($19.74 billion) and must cut another around 40 billion to meet tough deficit targets set by the EU." -- Looks like the union-effect is a world wide problem. Look what making $55 billion Euros (about $72 Billion US dollars - 1/10th of the T.A.R.P. bailout) in cuts does to the unions. On the other hand, if we taxpayers could turn things around for a 'mere' $72 Billion, we would feel relieved for the future of our children.

L-E story: "When Columbus Council convenes Tuesday in a special called session, it will more closely resemble a trial than a regular council meeting. * The 9 a.m. meeting will be a public hearing at which Mayor Teresa Tomlinson will ask council to overturn a recent decision by the city’s Personnel Review Board. The board overruled Muscogee County Prison Warden Dwight Hamrick’s decision to fire Lt. Little Lynn, who was dismissed primarily for having a sexual affair with a subordinate, Correctional Officer Angela Askew." -- If this isn't a 10-0 vote, then we should all support any opposition running against the 'no' voters in their next election.
---
Has anyone put together a report/recap of all the 'exempt' from property tax properties in Columbus? Why are not these properties at least responsible for some minimum fee for police/fire protection and street maintenance?

Gasoline is setting a nation-wide record, not one we support or rejoice in, but nevertheless, a record.....for the highest prices ever for this time of the year! What does this bode for Memorial Day and the 4th of July weekends? Looks like potUS O'Blather may just get his much wanted $5.00 a gallon gasoline.
---
Moderate/Liberal L-E "soundoff": "I don’t think free contraception is necessarily a bad thing. If we can stop the reproduction of little liberals, we might stand a chance in this country." -- Moderates don't get it that they are the main problem with elections...they feign being responsible but vote the other way too often. It's not about 'free contraception", it's about the government taking control of another area of personal responsibility. If the government really wanted to preach contraception, it would insist on neutering men and women who enroll in the system as their main source of income.
---
From the L-E "Today in History" feature: "On this date: In 1792, President George Washington signed an act creating the U.S. Post Office. " -- Hmm, so how does the Post Office honor George Washington..... by not delivering the mail on his holiday.
---
L-E story: "JERUSALEM — The U.S. and Britain on Sunday urged Israel not to attack Iran’s nuclear program as the White House’s national security adviser arrived in the region, reflecting growing international jitters that the Israelis are poised to strike. " -- After being thrown under the bus by potUS O'Blather & Co, why should Israel give a whit about what potUS O'Blather thinks?
---
L-E story: "The Rev. Roy Bourgeois of Columbus said he was arrested Sunday by the U.S. Border Patrol during a protest in El Paso, Texas, but charges were dropped and there will be no prosecution." -- Why would the L-E bestow Coumbus citizen status on Reverend Roy? On another aspect, why didn't Reverend Roy cross into Mexico instead, and get arrested there where he would remain indefinitely?
