Here's another way our school system wants to keep parents out of the equation. My daughter earned her admission to UGA last Spring through diligent work at other instate colleges. She didn't qualify for "HOPE Scholarship" out of high school, but by the time she got to UGA, she had a better that 3.0 GPA. Since then it has risen to nearly 3.4. I had her ask her advisor what it took to become HOPE eligible. Her advisor said she should have been given such prior to being admitted to UGS, but no one added her. They are refunding said amount for the last semester, and putting her on such for this Spring. They sent a refund check... of course UGA wrote it out to my daughter instead of my bride and me. Let's face it... UGA (and its no different from any other university anywhere) just doesn't want to admit that parents are part of their children's college experience.

From the "DOH!" department - Google was concerned about women not coming back to work after their 1/2 pay 3 month post -birth maternity leave, so Google changed and made it a post-birth 3 month maternity leave with full pay. Google is proud to say that it cut back women quitting their jobs to 50%. NO, what it did was give full pay for 3 months to women who weren't going to come back anyway. Just because you think that Google hires intelligent executives, it doesn't mean they are necessarily smart.

Our Council is deliberating 10 programs on whether to dispense (again) funds from the LOST revenues earmarked for Public Safety. One, and only one program specifically aids Public Safety.. the Chattahoochee Valley Jail Ministry which aims at reducing recidivism. That's only $41,500 of the nearly $700,000.00 on the table. It's time for Council to "man-up" and eliminate what are basically a 'bribes' for vote schemes.
