Also, do not forget that this project was scheduled to begin in July of 2014, and that the original costs projected by Council were between $1M-$1.2M, and have been modified since then to nearly $2.7M. Speaking of property tax myths Mayor Tom-LYING-son spews.. a house across the street from me (parcel 180 001 029) that does not have any Homestead Exemption, is valued at $280K today as it was in 2005 when it was purchased.. the owners moved a few years ago, but haven't sold it yet. Current taxes on the same assessed value are $4,600. Based on the value and taxes, the annual tax rate is 1.65 percent.. While the state of GA is ranked 25th .(96%)in it's property tax position nationally. only 9 states have a higher percentage property tax rate than the hose across the street from me. In fact, if the house across the street were taxed at the GA rate, the owners would save about $2,000.00.
