From the "doomed prophecy" department - Online headline: "O.J. Simpson appears at Las Vegas restaurant to support Bills" -- Of course, after the game, the restaurant was hoping that all the BILLS would be paid..

Online headline/story: "With renewed vigor, Supreme Court scrutinizes curbs on voting *
The justices will hear arguments in Republican-governed Ohio's appeal of a lower court ruling that blocked its policy of erasing from voter registration lists people who do not regularly cast a ballot. * Under the policy, such registration is deleted if the person goes six years without either voting or contacting state voting officials. * "Voting is the foundation of our democracy, and it is much too important to treat as a 'use it or lose it' right," said Stuart Naifeh, a voting rights lawyer with liberal advocacy group Demos, which is representing plaintiffs challenging Ohio's policy along with the American Civil Liberties Union." -- "Voting is the foundation of our democracy, and it is much too important to treat as a 'use it or lose it' right"? Ya damn right it is! And My vote is too important for it to be countered by someone illegally voting for another person who's moved, died, or known not to go to the polls!

Looking at a gallery of photos set at the Golden Globes, it was nice to see most women dressed more appropriately than in the past, but a few still showed up under the past normal Hollywood code that if your nipples are covered, it's modest enough.

Random thought: Do you know how much in taxes you pay for gasoline in Columbus, GA... let's see, GA's tax is 31.09-cents.. add fed taxes of 18.04-cents... add local/state sales taxes of 8% (about 25-cents per gallon), and it's total of about 74-cents per gallon of regular (say at $2.30 per gallon).. maybe this is why people younger than my generation scoff when they hear us talk about paying 15 (or less)-cents a gallon..In perspective.. if you drive to a gasoline/convenience store to buy cigs and lottery tickets, and fill up.. with say 20 gallons of gas, you paid nearly $15.00 in gasoline taxes. Add a carton of cigarettes, and that station has collected upwards of $25.00 in state/fed/local taxes.. Maybe hitting a pothole as you leave the station will sober you up... and you'll call your City officials about the lousy roads in Columbus.

Online headline/story: "11 dead after gun battle erupts outside Mexican beach resort * Acapulco is the biggest city in the southern state of Guerrero, one of Mexico's most lawless and a center of opium poppy production. * The beach resort is one of Mexico's most famous and for decades served as a playground for Hollywood stars." -- Maybe there's another reason to build "the Wall"... keeping liberals and other drug advocates from going to Mexico.
---
Online headline/story: "Major Democratic donor threatens to pull funding from senators who called for Al Franken’s resignation * Susie Tompkins Buell, a liberal mega donor who primarily supports female politicians, said in interviews with Buzzfeed and the New York Times that she is reconsidering her financial support of politicians who called for Franken’s resignation, a move that she considered to be “unfair,” “cavalier” and a “stampede". * more than two dozen Democratic senators to call for Franken’s resignation following the allegations against him and helped to lead a coordinated response among the U.S. Senate’s female politicians" -- Hmmm.. and even though Franken is gone now, some DIMocrats are "rethinking" their decision... you know.. this just shows how "buyable" DIMocrats are...the old :i was agin it before I was for it" defense.

According to reports, Seth Meyers made on one joke at Donald Trump's expense.. Guess Seth Meyers' accountant has told him how much the new TAX CUT bill will save him next year, and Meyers doesn't want to lose that the year following... or get a tax audit.
---
From the "the truth hurts liberals even more" department - Online story: "CNN’s Jake Tapper has a message for top White House aide Stephen Miller: Stop wasting my viewers’ time. * Tapper shut down his tense interview Sunday with President Donald Trump’s senior policy adviser after Miller continued to parrot talking points touting his boss while also attacking CNN. * “I think I have wasted enough of my viewers’ time,” Tapper told Miller as he abruptly ended the aide’s air-time." -- Tapper is right.. none of his viewers know.. much less believe the truth...and he doesn't want what viewers he has to seek other sources to find out what's really going on in the world.. Of course, I wish Fox News would cut out it's DIMocratic Party spinmeisters from on-air "discussions", too.. they belong on Seth Meyers' show.
---
From the "bias... what bias" department - Online headline: "Trump unloads on Russia investigation, libel laws and explosive new tell-all book during press conference" -- You know.. Steve Bannon has gone from mainscream media goat to hero in less that 2 months.. mainscream media eviscerated Bannon when he we working for Trump and Roy Moore, but now he's their "golden child". What's funny is mainscream media WANTS to spread the dirt and innuendo of an unvetted source, yet when former Secret Service agents wrote about the Clintons, mainscream media pooh-poohed them all.

From the "added benefit of President Trump" department - Online story: "Saudi Arabian authorities have detained 11 princes after they gathered at a royal palace in Riyadh in a rare protest against the government suspending payment of their utility bills, the public prosecutor said on Saturday. * Saudi Arabia, the world's top oil exporter, has introduced reforms that include reducing energy subsidies, introducing value-added tax and cutting some perks to royal family members to try to cope with a drop in crude prices that has caused a budget deficit estimated at 195 billion riyals ($52 billion) in 2018." -- Hmmm... I do imagine the Sauds rue the election of Trump versus a third term of Obama via Hellary. Now that AMERICA is back in the OIL GAME.. big time... the rest of the world is not subjected to the whims of the Sauds.
---
There's no doubt that TV media bosses are enjoying the sexual harassment charges.. just think about how many over... excessively paid... "celebrities" the networks have been able to cut from their payrolls..

Online headline: "Dunkin' Donuts ditches artificial food coloring in its donuts" -- Whoa! You mean sugar-overload wasn't the worst thing about consuming an extra donut or two?

The number one item that Columbus needs to address through the legislature is getting all our local election.. for political positions AND SPLOST tax referendums... back on the General Election date in November when people are motivated to go to the polls..
---
L-E story: "• Support an extension of Interstate 14 to and through Columbus and take any appropriate legislative action concerning the highway extension." -- Once again.. why not just connect Columbus eastward to Macon (I-75 and I-16), and westward to Auburn and Montgomery (I-65 and I-85), then Montgomery to Meridian, MS to connect with I-20. This was the original intent, and not only more feasible, but less expensive as well.
---
Speaking of starting the new legislative session.. has the L-E gotten to the bottom of Jehmu Greene's charges of Calvin Smyre's inappropriate body contacts? Smyre should be cleared... or cleared out.
---
On the positive side of the L-E's "soundoff" -- One thing for sure is that liberals, using their anonymity, leave no doubt to the common sense educated that Trump and conservatism are the ways to Making America Great Again..
---
LIV's L-E "soundoff": "Hardly a subtle distinction - Illegal alien minors had no choice in entering America with their parents, so they should stay. But so should their parents, who willfully entered, simply because they’re related? Illogical argument!" -- Hmmm.. and what about the minors sent or crossing on their own? No one should be allowed into our country without going through the procedure set up for legal immigration... no other country allows what libs demand in ours..
---
L-E headline: "COMMENTARY * 7 years later, McKoon appears wiser * BY CHUCK WILLIAMS" --
Hmmm... wonder if "Buzz" Pezold approved of this article? Anyway.. it would be nice if the entire L-E staff got behind the idea that having a local state-wide elected officer would elevate Columbus' position in the eyes of the Republican legislature.

So "Together 2017" is going to build an open work-out park on the RiverWalk section at Rotary Park... now the big.. and PERTINENT question: And what provisions have been made for/by "Together2017" (even though it's 2018) to provide long term maintenance and upkeep... or will this be an albatross for the taxpayers in the foreseeable future?
---
Columbus Council Agenda:
First readings: (Delayed from Dec. 12, 2017) An ordinance rezoning 5344 Kolb Ave. The current zoning is LMI (Light Manufacturing and Industrial) zoning district. The proposed zoning is GC (General Commercial) zoning district. The proposed use is Pest Control (in Building A) and Banquet Facility (in Building B). The Planning Advisory Commission recommends approval and the Planning Department recommends conditional approval. (Applicant: Jarrod Yasenchok) (Garrett) -- Sorta strange to have a chemical company and a food service business side by side...

DONATION OF A FITNESS PARK AT ROTARY PARK: Approval is requested authorizing the acceptance of a donation of a fitness park from Together 2017, valued at $73,650 placed at Rotary Park and will be known as Fitness Together@Rotary Park. This fitness park is a donation to the city through Together 2017 and will be utilized by citizens using Rotary Park as well as those citizens using that portion of the Riverwalk. This will be at no cost to the city as it is a private donation. -- Hmm.. and what part of ongoing maintenance is included in this "donation"? What it appears to be is another liability that the City is piling on to the backs of the taxpayers.

ROOFING SERVICES AT NORTH PRECINCT – It is requested that council authorize the execution of a construction contract with RYCARS Construction, LLC (Atlanta) in the amount of $139,880 for roofing services at the North Precinct of the Columbus Police Department. -- Excuse me, but where is the North Center.. and $139.800 for "roofing services" is not very clear.. is it to re-do, build, clean or what?

The addendum may be renewed for four additional years at Tyler’s current DBA Service Fee at the time of renewal. -- Good grief.. we haven't even recovered from the back-stabbing Tyler Tech software has done, and Council wants to give them more money?

Online headline: "Thousands gather for 0-16 Cleveland Browns parade" -- Hmmm... word was that none of the Cleveland Browns showed up for the parade... but then why ruin a perfect season... none showed up for the games either.. Of course, it would have been a perfect season if Brown's fans boycotted the parade altogether, too.

Breitbart reports: "Philly Judge Who Resigned over Sex Scandal and Was Jailed for Lying to FBI Now Running for Congress as Democrat * A former Philadelphia judge who was caught up in a ticket-fixing scandal, resigned over charges of sexual harassment, and was jailed for lying to the FBI, is now running for Congress as a Democrat with the slogan “A Fresh Start for Pennsylvania.” * Willie Singletary, a former Philadelphia Traffic Court judge, has announced his run for the First District seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Robert Brady, who is also chairman of Philadelphia’s Democratic City Committee, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer." -- Wait a minute.. isn't lying to the FBI the same charge as Mike Flynn is being persecuted by the FBI today.. and President Clinton's impeachment?

Last night was historic for my family... 189 years ago, 3 of my family members, 2 of them women, founded what is now the First Baptist Church in Columbus.. six prior generations of family women, and now a seventh generation have/are serving the church with love and devotion.. but last night was special.. my bride was ordained as a deacon.. she becomes the first female member of my family to serve as a deacon.. it wasn't until the 21st Century that our church acknowledged the equality of the women who have been the backbone of our church family.
