On the local level.. L-E story: " To accomplish that goal (of the MCSD budget) while keeping the property tax millage rate at 23.37 for the 20th straight year, the administration plans to use $7,619,053 of its fund balance. That would reduce the fund balance from the projected fiscal FY 2016 figure of $51,993,572 (equal to 55.8 days of operations) to $44,374,519 (equal to 45.7 days of operations). *  Lewis, however, noted during the May 9 budget presentation that the district recoups “around $6 million in fund balance by the end of the year. So, in essence, we’re going to be able to rebuild our reserve or at least maintain it.”  -- Good grief.. how does Lewis figure that if you spend $7.6 MILLION out of the Fund Balance" that IF the MCSD gets $6 MILLION in additional revenue at the end of the year, that the Fund Balance is "maintained"? Guess he's using that Common CRAP Math program that the students are being taught.

Speaking of the budget and millage rates.. 5 mils of the 23.37 is because of the Columbus Museum. That means that the MCSD is responsible for the Museum expenses as well as the School Systems, but that ain't ever happened  Projected property taxes for the school system is about $108 MILLION so the money being collected for the Columbus Museum amounts to over 2$23 MILLION, yet little if any, actually allocated  to the pretty much self-sustaining Museum and its donors.

L-E story: "But the city is burying less and less of it, Nunley said. In April alone, the recycling center collected 1,500 tons of material that would have otherwise been buried at the landfill. To put that in context, prior to opening the center in December of 2013, the city’s old center on Victory Drive processed just 2,000 tons for all of the previous year. * The city sells the recycled paper, plastic and metals and gets about $550,000 a year, according to Public Works Director Pat Biegler. While that doesn’t cover the $1.15 million it costs to operate the plant, as recycling numbers grow, it will get closer and closer." -- Good grief... this is another Mayor TomLYINGson project that is revenue negative... we should be able.. more like "have to" close it soon, as. like the Queen TT Lounge and the Aquacenter, thy won't be able to afford  toilet paper.
