Remember when mortgage companies couldn't demand proof of income for buyers and housing prices arbitrarily soared.. the Freeze protected homeowners from a predatory government tax plan. Then, let's not forget that when the housing market collapsed, and our houses' values plummeted, it was the tax freeze that kept property tax revenues constant for the City and MCSD. Imagine what would have happened had property tax revenues dropped 15-20%...

Tax Freeze/Tax Assessor Screw Up - There's a house at 1701 Slade Dr
(between Talbotton Rd and Cherokee Ave)on the market for $175,000.. been offered
for about 6 months.. it was bought out of an estate settlement for $50,000 and
the Tax Assessor obviously didn't blink an eye that the house (also not with
homestead exemption) next to it is on the tax digest at $1512,000 (even though
the purchase price in 2006 was $179K). We don't need a "Tax Thaw", we need a
more up-to-date Tax database and assessors.
