From the "Let's go back in time" department - A year ago, this headline hit the mainscream media frenzy: "Colin Kaepernick: I won't stand 'to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people" -- Let's face it.. is there a single flag in Africa flying over a country that isn't STILL oppressing its population? And as far as KaeperPRICK landing a "football" job in Africa... there are no "quarterback positions" in soccer.

From the "is it your bias or your intolerance showing" departmeny - Online headline/story: "CNN Silent After Commentator 'Incited Rage' at Antifa Rally * CNN commentator W. Kamau Bell - who hosts "The United Shades of America" - spoke at Antifa's "No Hate in the Bay" rally in California. * Bell willingly and earnestly partook in the raucous protest. * Bell willingly and earnestly partook in the raucous protest" -- Now the good news... Now CNN will be forced to address Bell's participation which makes CNN now have to look into a mirror at its future relevance.. as it stands, CNN has to compare what its own employee was doing while Trump supporters in Texas and Louisiana were unselfishly out saving people of all races from the ravages of Harvey.

While there is nothing "humorous" about the flooding in Texas and Louisiana, an occasional moment does bring a smile and a chuckle. Such was one yesterday.. a dutiful cameraman, his soaked t-shirt and cargo-shorts sagging downward from the weight of the water, was following a rescue crew as they carried an injured person on a stretcher. As the crew was about to load the stretcher into a van, said cameraman darted to the side of the action, and bent over to lower his camera angle to get a different view. Unbeknownst to the hard working cameraman, was another camera crew was catching all the action as well. Well, when the first cameraman went to the side of the rescue crew, and as he bent over to lower his camera angle, he exposed about an 8'"-to-10" "buttcrack" which was center screen on the network camera crews shot. Bless his heart.

Online headline: "Comey began drafting 'exoneration statement' before interviewing Clinton, senators say" -- You know.. Comey hung himself out to dry when he stated that no transcripts or video recordings were made of Hellary depositions/interviews.. There's not a law enforcement agency in this country that doesn't record such witness/persons-of-interest sessions.

Online headline/story: "Americans paying more in taxes than for food, clothing * In an assessment of “Consumer Expenditures” for 2016, the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed the average bill for federal, state and local taxes was $10,489. * According to the BLS, federal income taxes rose from $5,743 to $8,367 in that period. State and local income taxes rose from $1,629 to $2,046. * By comparison, Americans spent $9,006 on food and clothes, with most of that going toward food." -- Hmm.. and this doesn't include the regressive local sales taxes that basically cripple available cash for private sector community growth in the Columbus,GA-Phenix City,AL SMA as the area pays more than 8% overall in local and state sales taxes.

The movie industry needs to add a new category of "ratings". I keep seeing trailers that obviously should be rated "S" for stupid.

From the "did I miss this Wednesday/Thursday in the Columbus L-E?" department - WRBL3 headline: "New I-185 interchange coming to south Columbus" -- One of the things that should be closely monitored is costs of land acquisition for properties where the new interchange will displace.. According to the Tax Assessors Board, all properties have been reassessed and show their "true" Fair Market Value, so when prices are being "negotiated", any price paid higher than current FMVs should not only be scrutinized, but back taxes assessed on the value the current owners feel they are worth.

Los Angeles just dumped Christopher Columbus and will now celebrate Indigenous People Day. LA claims Columbus was a killer, sex and slave trader. Hmmm .. it's amazing that the home of Hollywood feels Columbus is the root cause of all their decadence. and moral breakdowns that they capitalize on, and yet condemn Columbus for it.

Online headline: "Georgia lawmakers brace for delicate debate over Civil War monuments" -- Once again I say.. won't the statue of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.. standing amidst, equal, and toe-to-toe with Civil War era icons be testimony, not only to his resolve, but the success of his movement that's brought about social changes not imaginable 75 years ago.

Common sense L-E "soundoff": "Common-sense agenda It’s a pity the
Democratic Party can’t express national goals such as jobs, infrastructure,
health care and reasonable immigration policy. Seems simple to me." -- Oh.. it's
not that they don't talk it, but Dems will intentionally NOT deliver it because
it would take away their arguments/promises for their re-election
campaigns..,

For a rainy afternoon change-ofipace, my bride and I took in a matinee
showing of "Logan Lucky".. and boy were we lucky.. We were the only people there
, and it was showing in one of the Star Lounger seated theaters. The cast was
outstanding, and the humor and plot were seductive and first rate.. You may not
be as "lucky" as my bride and I, but you will enjoy it (well if you're not
fuming over the costs of tickets and concessions). Oh, a word to
millennials/snowflakes...; the humor is over your heads.. way over!

Have you seen the "busts" made recently over small things like busted
taillights etc? Just confirmation that law enforcement will benefit.. therefore
the public will also, if car tags are required to have a proper expiration decal
attached to them.. Small things are helpful to our warriors in blue.

Content of a "letter to the editor" in today's L-E: "As a member of
Indivisible Columbus, Ga. (indivisiblecolumbusga.com), I was part of the group
outside the Trade Center Monday afternoon asking Senator Perdue to hold an
overdue town hall meeting. * Our peaceful demonstration was a simple request for
representation of all of Perdue's constituents, and that he vote with conscience
and not just party lines. * Most of these members have lived and worked in this
city for 20-plus years. We care deeply about our government and choose to be
active participants.– Judy Barnett, Columbus" -- Heh heh heh...well Judy is one
of less than 50 people shown on their FB page who never vote against their own
party's line, and she is not a member of the other 199,000+ people in Columbus
who weren't protesting Perdue's appearance.
