Israel-Gaza After 'Scum' Tweet * CNN has removed correspondent Diana Magnay from 
covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after she tweeted that Israelis who 
were cheering the bombing of Gaza, and who had allegedly threatened her, were 
“scum.” * 
“She deeply regrets the language used, which was aimed directly at those 
who had been targeting our crew," the CNN spokeswoman continued. "She certainly 
meant no offense to anyone beyond that group, and she and CNN apologize for any 
offense that may have been taken.” * The spokeswoman said Magnay has been 
assigned to Moscow." --  "assigned to Moscow"? That'll win points for the 
Mosqued man... NOT!

How about this for a solution to illegal aliens... Round up the necessary 
illegal aliens from Mexico, fly them back to the Guatamalan border to build a 
fence between Guatamala & Mexico (which is shorter so it should cost less 
and be quicker to finish), then hire those Mexicans to guard new fence.  How 
simple can it get.

the maker of the Kool brand cigarettes her husband had smoked, arguing that the 
company had deliberately concealed the health hazards its product caused." -- 
Good grief... if you started smoking in 1976, there was not much doubt you knew 
what the evils of cigarette smoking were. What we have here is a jury with a 
liberal public school education not knowing about personal responsibilities and 
accountabilities of making choices.

Speaking of "3 giant steps back", a fellow BCer reports that ISIS religious 
and judicial bodies in the Ninewa province of Iraq have issued decrees 
specifying the amount of rent to be charged for property, forbade marriages 
outside its courts, and forbade clothing stores from selling women's gowns that 
are "tight, transparent, or embroidered". Hmmm... sounds like New York City, 
Detroit, and Chicago.. Of course, San Francisco would not ban the women's gowns 
from being sold.. the gay/transvestite community would be up-in-arms.

With the extra space made by tearing down the old school administration 
building, why not do something to preserve the 1843 Wynnton Academy building 
currently in use at Wynnton School. Move that original building to that site 
where it can been seen, yet protected.

LIV's L-E "soundoff": "The GOP Benghazi farce has already cost taxpayers 
over $3 million." -- "$3 Million"? Hmmm..... obviously a figure pulled out of 
thin air, but you know.. that $3 Million might have saved 4 American's if 
Hillary had use such to beef up the security... or if the Mosqued man had used 
such to get backup soldiers there when he first was aware of the 
situation.

Frank Thomas had one particular dream.. to be remembered as baseball's 
"greatest hitter".. I'm not sure anyone is about to wrestle that title from Ted 
Williams, but Frank Thomas did tie the "Splendid Splinter" with 521 career home 
runs. That's 'big league" in my book.

I helped coach a Peach LL team with two of my nephews when Frank played. 
Both have fond memories of striking him out on occasion, Big Frank has memories 
of blasting "no doubt" home runs off them. Looks like a 3-way tie.

I coached LL baseball with Robbie Mendenhall during that era. Robbie was a 
pretty fair ballplayer himself.. Held many pitching records in the Bi-City long 
after he left  Columbus High School. Worked his way up the ranks of the Kansas 
City minor league system until he "blew out" his pitching arm in the AA level. 
There was no "Tommy John surgery back then. We devised a special defense for 
when Frank Thomas came to bat.. Frank was a definite "pull hitter" then. We put 
our left fielder on the foul line with orders to run5 steps into foul territory 
as soon as the pitcher released the ball. Our Center fielder played in the left 
fielder's spot, and our right fielder took position in straight away center 
field. The third baseman positioned himself on the foul line, our SS moved to 
the near normal 3B position. and our 2nd baseman was positioned directly behind 
2nd base, about 5 steps into the outfield. Our hitting chart for Frank showed 
these were the places that the ball would go if it didn't clear a fence. The 
defense actually worked  for one of his "at bats" in the first game  we called 
for it. Frank was a little befuddled that the only person on the right side of 
the field was our first baseman. He stepped back into the batter's box, and 
laced a smoking shoulder height line drive right over our pitcher (who had the 
instinct to duck fast), and the ball landed right in the glove of our 2nd 
baseman who was positioned 20 feet into the outfield directly behind 2nd base. 
The 2nd baseman's dad is one of our BCers. I think Bob will remember that catch 
as well. I bet Big Frank does too.

Can you believe that the 28 year MCSD board member from District 2 wants to 
be voted "for" in the runoff based on his record? It's his record why less that 
3 of 10 voters  voted for him in the first election. It's a shame he qualified 
for the 'runoff". Let's end his shame once and for all on Tuesday, July 
22.

There's a list of organizations inline for "grants" taken from the 1% 
Public Safety LOST tax. A number of the organizations "purpose" is to " reduce 
the truancy rate, drug usage, pregnancy and delinquency among juveniles." Why 
are we splitting up resources amongst 6+ groups which have duplicate overhead 
costs? Why not get all those program leaders together and have them unify into 1 
organization with 1 set of fixed expenses? That way, our tax dollars would get 
to what the need of the community is rather than into paychecks for the 
organizers?

This item off the Public Agenda requests to Council is disturbing: 
"Nikolaus Sneshkoff, representing Empire Loft and Flowers Building Loft Tenants: 
Recommendation for additional parking for Uptown Columbus." -- Just exactly who 
does this private organization want to pay for their parking? This is not a 
taxpayer project.

And another Public Agenda request: " Ashley Sweeney, representing Live 
Healthy Columbus Coalition: The Partnerships to Improve Health Grant." -- Good 
grief.. giving personal use grants to private organizations is not something 
the taxpayers are responsible for!

And the worst (so far) Council request item come from our City Manager: " 
FISCAL 2014 OFFICE OF JUVENILE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION: Authorization 
is requested to submit a grant application to the Office of Juvenile Justice 
Delinquency Prevention for a $244,565 grant with a 25 percent cash match of 
$74,855 to enhance Muscogee County Juvenile Drug Court Services under the 
Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit to include Harris County and if awarded, amend 
the Multi-Governmental Grant Fund by the amount of the grant award. Harris 
County has agreed to fund the 25 percent local cash match for this three-year 
grant period. This grant will be used to enhance Muscogee County Juvenile Drug 
Court Services under he Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit to Harris County." -- Why 
is Harris County being considered for our tax dollars!

Whoa! This is another outrageous City Manager request: "LEATHER ITEMS 
(ANNUAL CONTRACT) — It is requested that council approve the annual contract for 
the purchase of various leather items on an “as needed basis” from the following 
vendors: Lawmens & Shooters Supply Inc. (Vero Beach, Fla.), Smyrna Police 
Distributors (Smyrna, Ga.), DGG Tactical (Jacksonville, Fla.) and GT 
Distributors Inc. (Austin, Texas), for the estimated annual contract value of 
$102,518.77. The leather items consist of belts, handcuff cases, flashlight 
holders, baton holders, holsters, magazine pouches, etc., and will be used by 
the Police Department, Sheriff’s Office and Marshal’s Office." -- How does our 
law enforcement go through $102+ dollars worth of 'accessories" in a year? maybe 
it would be cheaper to implant a tracking devoce in such "accessories" so we 
know where they have gone. Surely, these items aren't "worn out" at such a rate. 
I have holsters, gun belts I purchased 20 years ago that aren't "worn 
out".

its own way" -- Well, I'm not actually going to read the content of Leonard 
"The" Pitts as I'm sure he's wrong in his content, but he got the headline 
right....and that alone is worth mentioning..

For info sake.. recently, viewer numbers have eclipsed 29,000 on six continents (all but Antarctica).
