MLB is considering outlawing "defensive shifts" as a manager's option for certain batters who have been tracked to hitting a baseball to certain areas. MLB thinks it will put more runs on the board and that will make the game better. There's an insurance ad talking about a man having a $40K new car that gets clobbered and his own insurance company won't fork up by $37K... depreciation..Had an experience like this years ago with an uninsured driver doing major damage to my car 3 month old car with 1300 miles on it. Damage was 40% of value. Adjuster offered to either give me a check with 20% depreciation, or fix it. Went by the dealer and inquired how it would affect my 5 year warranty. Dealer said replacement parts would be covered but 90 days, and other parts warranty could be denied because of wreck. Went back to adjuster, told them to fix my car, but they would have to write out a separate warranty to cover warranty work for the next 4 years/9 months. Adjusters looked at each other and asked if I would take a check for the full amount less 5¢ a mile for the 1300 miles driven. I got a check for the full amount less the $65.00. There's always an Achilles heel.
