Online story: "Walmart laid off 2,200 workers last week after temporarily closing five stores for plumbing repairs. Workers aren’t buying that rationale. * Wal-Mart workers are fighting back against the retailer’s decision last week to close five stores in four states for what the company says are plumbing repairs.
* Workers at the company’s Pico Rivera, Calif. store who are associated with OUR Walmart, a group that advocates for better pay, say the closings are “retaliatory” in nature. They filed a charge with the National Labor Relations Board on Monday, claiming that the termination of more than 500 employees at the Pico Rivera Walmart constituted an unfair labor practice. * Last week, the retail giant, which employs 1.3 million workers in the United States, temporarily closed five stores—two in Texas and one each in California, Florida, and Oklahoma—for six months of plumbing repairs. The stores closed at 7 p.m. on April 13, which gave workers just a few hours notice that they were losing their jobs. The company provided two months of paid leave for both full-time and part-time workers. Employees could try to transfer to a different Walmart location during that time. Full-time workers who fail to find another Walmart job are eligible for severance starting June 19," -- Good grief.. Walmart has about 5,000 stores in its business and is taking measures to fix 5 of those rather than close them for good (take note MCSD!). What's going on with workers is purely political parrying by unions (can we say "Democratic Party foils"). The average store for Walmart does about $1 Million is sales WEEKLY.. shutting down 5 stores for 6 months will COST Walmart about $130,000,000.00 in sales volume (not.. NOT profit). Walmart does not take shutting down for maintenance lightly and is making compassionate moves to help even its part time workers (who, BTW, could be taking other jobs and still get the 2 month paid leave. Unions are becoming the terrorist state equivalence of ISIS.. perhaps we should identify unions as "USUS".. Union State of Union SH*T... with a slogan of "Us for US".

Online headline: "Iowa hit hard by bird flu" -- Ooops my bad.. thought some of the S*** Hillewinsky left as she "flew out" had finally been analyzed for its true content.

Local disaster alert!.... There's an impending nightmare coming downtown this weekend.. The Frogtown Hollow Jam event was scheduled last weekend but moved to this one because of weather. Well, there's a 40th combined reunion scheduled for one night for Columbus , Hardaway, and Brookstone alumni being held on the closed Dillingham Street Bridge.

Have you picked up on the conversation going on recently about more concern that the next wave of terrorism will increasingly be in the US..Good grief...how much more terrorism can be added to the terrorism of Obamageddon's and Pric Holder's and the IRS directives?

Passed on by a fellow BCer.. it's a "must watch" (less than 4 minutes) if you think you are reasonably informed of what's going on.. It demonstrates my concern about government workers being allowed to vote for people who control their pay checks.

Online story: "Michelle Nunn, a philanthropy executive who was defeated in a bid for the U.S. Senate last fall, will become the next president of CARE USA, a major international humanitarian organization, the group said Sunday." -- You know... there was reasonable value for Michelle Martin to run for a GA Senate seat using her father's name/connection, but what possible benefit is dropping her husband's name to head a non-profit? Unless you consider how she will pimp her father's name to hit up his associates for donations....

Online story: "New reports have suggested that Obama is preparing to push for slavery reparations in 2016.
This shocking plan was revealed by Fox Business News host Charles Payne during Thursday’s episode of Making Money. * “The news is a glimpse of much bigger news that is going to come from the White House, next year, I’m leaning towards,” Payne said, after talking about news in Chicago. “I think that there’s going to be an official apology from the White House to slavery in America and then a major push to get cash, and I’m talking lots of cash.” -- Hmmm... I've got an idea... let's approve reparations....but with a couple of caveats.. anyone applying/accepting such must repay all government financial assistance received in the last 50 years which was suppose to assist in their growth to mainstream America. Further, all repayments be credited to the taxes IRS currently collects from those who funded the previous entitlement programs, and all government entitlement programs be ended.

Online story: "people are just playing games"? Good grief.. Hillewinsky is the biggest game player in American politics.. and just getting warmed up.. David Copperfield has never created an illusion that compares with Hillewinsky's ability to make her past disappear into thin air.

L-E conditionally true "headlie"/story: "RANGER ASSESSMENT PHASE * BREAKING THE MOLD * Female soldiers pass Ranger PT test at higher rate than males * A class of 399 soldiers started the physically and mentally challenging 62-day course to become U.S. Army Rangers, among the nation’s elite warriors. What was different was 19 of the soldiers were women, the first time in the more than half-century history of Rangers that the training has been opened up to females. * The weeding-out process began early, with 81 soldiers failing the physical assessment test and being released from the class. Of the 81 who failed, three were women, making the early failure rate 21 percent for men and 16 percent for women." -- While complements are due to the qualifying women Ranger candidates.. comparing failure percentages is sorta outrageously gender biased. Many steps to identify the female soldiers most likely able to handle to rigors of Ranger School eliminated many candidates before they were invited to try to qualify. Let's just applaud these women for what each is accomplishing, but let's not compare apples to oranges.

L-E headline: "MUSCOGEE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD * Board approves revised calendar * Calendar approved unanimously after heeding complaints" -- As far as three-ring circuses* go, this a major victory for students and parents, but it's only a battle won.. not a war victory. School still starts too soon, and the plethora of "breaks" are basically long weekends for school personnel, but headaches for parents who have to find alternative child care for these extra "off days". Victory will not come until schools start back in September so families get full summer time to plan vacations, and taxpayers get a break from running air-conditioned schools during the hottest month of the year.

I just have to comment.. why is the "March of Dimes" still in existence? It was created to find a solution to polio... that happened, and we were ecstatic.. Not having that as a donation hook, the March of Dimes recreated itself to keep it's ravenously expensive collection jobs in business, but can anyone tell me what the March of Dimes does now other than collect money, take it's huge share out and redistribute what's left to other foundations? If you are interested in any cause the MOD sends money, then just make a donation straight to that organization and get more for your donation money.

In the L-E "letters" section, a too oft printer liberal writer from Georgetown embellishes 1 Timothy 6:9: “the love of money is the root of all evil.” That's funny considering that the writer loves other people's money so much.

In a Chuck Williams' column today, he makes the observance that:
"There is a discussion taking place in our community.
It is happening on multiple levels. It is serious and it is timely.
The homeless issue in Columbus and the Chattahoochee Valley is not going away — not even close.
Over the years, a task force has led to an umbrella group called Home for Good, which has been incubated by the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley." -- You better believe its not going away.. not as long as Jthere are agencies that campaign for donations to "solve it". Just like the March of Dimes I mentioned earlier.. no campaign organization wants to eliminate its own jobs.
