The other day, the School System announced it was dropping its application to make Fort Middle School a 'charter school', and would make a magnet program there instead. The principal's comment bothered me. She said Fort would become a school that would "attract high performing students". Excuse me, but if our administrators think there magnet programs are to "attract high performing students", then the magnet program will fail in its overall goal of reaching all students with certain desires. The purpose of any magnet program should be to offer specialized programs that not only attract the 'high performing student', but the student that has those interests at any level of ability. To run the magnet programs anyway else will only turn schools into pockets of elitism.

There's a major flaw in Mother Teresa Obamalinson's to impose a minimum 'fee' on homeowners paying less than $500.00 in property taxes. The MCSD will be eying that 'fee' as the property tav it surely is, and will want the lion's share for itself... or at least the ability to impose a 'fee' of its own.
