Online story: "In Florida this week, former Deputy CIA Director (and former
Secretary of Defense under President Reagan) Frank Carlucci walked into court
and demanded that a Florida judge enforce judgment against a huckster who
Carlucci says defrauded him out of $32 million." -- Hmmm, maybe an
investigation/IRS purge is needed to see how/where a lifelong government worker
had a spare $32,000,000.00 to 'invest', and also, why the guy who scammed him is
not in charge of the US spy network.

Online "off the record" story: "WASHINGTON, May 30 (Reuters) - U.S.
Attorney General Eric Holder told media editors on Thursday that he would change
the way the Justice Department handles investigations that involve reporters and
not repeat searches that have raised concerns about freedom of the press, the
editors said." -- Hmmm, it's easy to make campaign programs when you aren't
under oath or can cross your fingers behind your back.
---
For the record, it was less than professional, and way less than
presidential, for the White House/AG/DOJ's office to suggest that a meeting to
explain the ongoing scandals be conducted "off the record" . "Off the record"
basically means Holder wants to answer questions without being accountable for
the truth. Even worse was the statement saying if the media doesn't agree to
such conditions, the media had no right to complain. That is a BS assumption
only a liar could make/expect.

"Cut Bait".... Hey, how much money was spent on making it safer before any
other work was done? You know, you have to wonder whether altering it with
concrete mattresses before it was tested may be the reason it's dangerous at
certain water flow rates now. You also have to wonder whether that concrete pit
will withstand the power of Mother Nature.... she doesn't like to be
fooled.

With all that's going on in Washington, where's Bleep Veep Biden? Is he
disassociating himself with Judas 00-bama preparing for2016?
---
There's only one person with something to gain personally if Judas 00-bama
were to actually receive a ricin laced letter, and Biden is conveniently out of
the country (and spotlight).

Straight from Mayor Obamalinson's mouth is that while the Whitewater
equippers do not collect sales, SPLOST, LOST, or T-SPLOST taxes, she worked out
an agreement that the equippers pay Columbus a straight 3% of sales fee. Why
would she settle for a 3% fee versus the normal sales taxes other uses pay for?
Her way cuts out revenues designated for LOSTS and SPLOST/T-SPLOST that depend
on that revenue. Now, the Public Safety, Infrastructure, MCSD, and the area road
funds get snubbed.

If the government wants to go after obese and overweight aspects of
personal lives, government should first go after the constructors/spenders of
the bloated budget .

I am tired of complaints that every criminal defendant is entitled to any
lawyer he/she wants at public expense, and that every court appointed attorney
is expected to perform like his client has a bottomless bank accoungt. I am not
for separate justice, but I am tired of paying for defense lawyers for criminals
that knew in advance that if they get caught, they don't have the funds to pay
for their own lawyer. I do not object to there being a publicly paid advisor to
consult criminals but the public should not be responsible for a defense to get
a criminal off on technicalities.

Someone has put together a collage of video clips of Nixon & 00-bama
'splaining' why they shouldn't be held accountable for their administration
scandals. I had a hard time telling which one or the other was speaking.

Online headline: "Homeland Security Is Worried Limiting 3D-Printed Guns
'May Be Impossible': Report" -- Hey, it's just as illegal to have an
illegal 3D-printed gun as it is to possess a normal gun illegally. Just enforce
the laws we have, and put users of guns in crime either in the ground or locked
up forever. The crime numbers will drop significantly.

The 10 worst paying college majors, based on starting salary, jobs

Wonder how each rank in the amount and number of student loans in
existence?
---
Conversely, the top 10 (from 1 down to 10) are:
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
General Engineering
Civil Engineeering
Computer Science
Economics
Finance
Accounting
Information Services
Amazingly, the unemployed figures are not much different than the worst 10
fields.

Buckle up and hold on tight all you new parents and grandparents who think
there is safety in using TV cartoons as a routine baby sitter for your little
ones. There's a new cartoon out that a 'boy' transforms into a "girl"
super-hero. While I don't like to give trash publicity, the name of the show
(fortunately on the low viewership cable only station called "the Hub" but it's
sometimes available on Knology in the high-def-stations) is "SheZow". Forewarned
is forearmed.

Letter-to-the Ledger:
Why has the City of Columbus, and the State of Georgia singled out a
recreation service to be exempt form collecting and turning in sales, LOST &
SPLOST taxes? Such is the case with the companies running the "Whitewater"
rafting business(es).
It's especially egregious in that the City and State have contributed
million of our tax dollars into providing an arena for such recreation
companies.
On the other hand, The City and State demand we pay sales taxes on our
utilities, gasoline, and our car purchases (and as of this year, if we sell a
car ourselves to someone, either the buyer or the seller is going to be
responsible for collecting and paying sales taxes on that car).
Where is the justice in the City and State demanding we pay sales taxes
plus the LOSTs & SPLOST taxes on basic needs while exempting persons from
paying such taxes on some of their recreational desires if they they can afford
such?

Online headline: "Obama: 'I Don’t Have Much Patience for People Who Deny
Climate Change' -- Hey I support climate change... I think the climate in the
White House and Senate should change drastically.

A woman called 911 in Oregon because her violent ex-boyfriend was
threatening her. The operator told her "I don't have anybody to send out
there... ask him to go away" -- Is this not the post child for the 2nd
Amendment?

Really good L-E "soundoff": "Maybe the
Boy Scouts and the Girls Scouts can merge and become the “Unisex Scouts.” That
would satisfy gay rights groups, ACLU, etc., and obliterate two fine
organizations." -- Of course, it is sad that liberals will look at this and see
the solution of the ages, not the sadness of the irony.

L-E story: "CHICAGO — A young Lebanese immigrant was sentenced
Thursday to 23 years in prison for placing a backpack he believed contained a
powerful bomb along a bustling city street near the Chicago Cubs’ baseball
stadium.
Sami Samir Hassoun’s sentencing in federal court in
Chicago came little more than a month after bombs concealed in backpacks
exploded at the Boston Marathon, killing three people and wounding hundreds
more. * The defense has depicted Hassoun as a uniquely gullible youth sucked into the
2010 terrorism sting during an alcohol-addled stretch of his life by an
informant eager to please his FBI handlers. * But prosecutors say he showed enthusiasm and
initiative, including by deciding to drop the device given to him by undercover
agents into a trash bin near Wrigley Field and a bar packed with late-night
revelers. " -- You know, I'm beginning to be as worried about our FBI being so
knowledgeable about deviousness.
---
The L-E editorial seems distressed that state run
'charter schools' did not excel as was wished. The key words in this are "state
run". Even if you give the schools' principals more leeway than their
non-charter school counterparts, you cannot escape the
fact that the principals were trained within the same system. What's that adage
about expecting different results?
---
From the L-E's "Looking Back" feature: "An ambulance, racing to the hospital with a patient,
and an auto with three occupants collided near LaGrange yesterday, sending three
people to the hospital. * However, the
three admitted to the hospital didn’t include the patient riding in the
ambulance. He was treated and dismissed." -- Who needs writers to come up with
jokes? Real life is the best humor.

You do have to applaud Will Smith on his
discovery of how to get his teenaged son to listen to and obey him. Put him into
the movie you are starring in and have managing control of the
script.

Again, I am for the SEC to go to 9
intra-conference games. The SEC has great match ups, and the NCAA experiment
with expanding schedules so teams could play other conference powers has been a
failure. The schools have scheduled too many 'homecoming opponents"
instead.

From the "stupid moves, accelerated
division" department - L-E story: "PHILADELPHIA — Joe Paterno’s family is suing the
National Collegiate Athletic Association over penalties levied against Penn
States and its football program for its role in the Jerry Sandusky sexual-abuse
case." -- Papa Joe didn't teach his skills to any one else in his family.
Sometimes, you just have to minimize the losses, lick your wounds, and regroup
for another day. Papa Joe's grave is already deep enough.

L-E
headline: "CHEAP LEASES OFFERED TO SPUR
ELECTRIC CAR SALES " -- Huh? Let's re-read that... how can a lease be considered
a 'sale'? The user can just walk away from it, and the car companies are still
the owners and will have the expense if they have to sue the users. Sorta what
brought the housing industry down.. basically 'leasing' hoyuse to unqualified
buyers who can't afford them and have no real money
invested.
